Mother’s Day -- Aria Heart & Cauda Mist
The sound of hurried small hoofsteps can be heard clattering down a hall of the castle belonging to the former tyrant Storm King. The sounds belonged to none other than the hybrid filly Cauda Mist, her small hooves carrying her as fast as they could with one goal in mind - finding her mother. Her breaths are heavy from effort though also from being restricted by the gift she held tight between her teeth. Turning a corner, she spots her goal, willing her legs to carry her faster toward the older mare.
“Muh muh!” She calls out toward Aria in a muffled but happy squeak, hooves skidding along the floor to a stop before her mother. Her small chest heaves as she tries to catch her breath, though she still manages to give a beaming smile up at Aria. She places her gift on the floor before her, her lengthy tail swaying happily behind her.
Aria was expecting this at some point today, as it was Mother’s Day, and she knew Cauda loved to partake in it from the day she’d learned of it. Her little filly had brought her a lovely little bouquet of wildflowers from the surrounding forest, the little gesture making Aria’s heart soar. She leases a soft laugh, giving Cauda a soft nuzzle to her cheek which earns her a little giggle from her daughter..
“They’re such lovely flowers, raindrop! Thank you, sweetheart!”
“You like ‘em, mama? You like ‘em?” Cauda inquires, still beaming.
“I love them, Cauda, sweetheart. They’re beautiful.” Her reply makes Cauda grin from ear to ear, trotting in place excitedly.
“Wait, wait, I got somethin’ else!” The filly turns to her side, revealing a little bag tied to her back. “I made cookies!” Her small flank wiggles excitedly along with her tail, waiting for Aria to take the gift. Aria’s eyes widen in surprise, brows raising at her daughter’s proud declaration.
“You did? Cauda, sweetheart, you know you shouldn’t be baking without help....” At that, her daughter simply grins wider, leaving Aria confused for a moment before she clarifies.
“I didn’t do it alone! Brian helped me!” She pipes up in reply. As if on cue, one of the many large Storm Creatures that dwelled in the castle with them turning the corner to meet up with the two. Aria’s crystalline eyes fall on the creature, who gives a slight wave. Somehow, despite the mask they were wearing, Aria could tell they were delighted as well.
Though her body had tensed at knowing her daughter had done baking without her, she soon relaxes with a relieved smile. She wondered how they were able to do this without her catching on, though that doesn’t really matter in the moment. She would have to find a way to thank that Storm Creature later. She leases another soft laugh, giving Cauda another small nuzzle.
“Thank you, my little raindrop. I don’t think I could eat any of them without sharing them with you. If you want to, of course…” She gives her daughter a playful smile, and Cauda excitedly trots in place again. “Alright, come on, sweetheart, let’s go have ourselves a little sweet treat.” She finishes with a laugh, giving the filly’s side a nudge off toward their dining room.
She watches Cauda quickly trot off giggling before following after her, thankful for her little one and how loved Cauda Mist made her feel. Mother’s Day may just become her favorite holiday if she got to spend time with her daughter like this.
