As a Sharlayan born miqo’te who studied hard at both the Studium and during his time within the Students of Baldesion, R’kayah was obviously destined to acquire his Mark of the Sages for specialising in his chosen field of Allagan Technology & Ancient Civilisations — it was a mark he wore with pride.
However, his time within the Studium and the Students of Baldesion, easily led him to meeting G’raha Tia — at a young age, even. With both of them having an interest in Allagan History, and subsequently, its technology, they quickly bonded over the shared interest.
It wasn’t long after he acquired his Mark of the Sages that G’raha was requested by Rammbroes for the Crystal Tower. A task which G’raha happily invited a dear friend along to — especially with G’raha being more of a historian, R’kayah leaned more into being a technologist, one that specialised in Allagan Technology. They were a formidable pair, and conquering the Crystal Tower, especially with the Warrior of Light’s help should’ve been a breeze, right?
And while, technically, it was and the tower was sealed, it didn’t come without a cost. The cost of losing a dear friend to an eternal slumber. The memory of that day haunts him — of watching the door shut in his face, knowing that he would most likely never seeing G’raha — his long term friend, his dearest companion — again within his lifetime unless technology that rivalled the Allagans could be constructed, and of knowing that G’raha wouldn’t have even told him unless the researchers had come rushing to Rammbroes cut him deeply.
After which, the dissatisfaction he’d felt at the way of the world, at the lack of advancement, development, even with Ironworks trying its best disgusted him. The lack of Sharlayan’s willingness to help with this, with calamities, with war — claiming that they were to do nothing more than watch. It all sickened him. It wasn’t long before he began spending more and more time out of Sharlayan, holding onto the forbidden tomes he was given access to and not returning them — distributing the information with those he’d found that shared a picture of a new world like he did, of those who wanted to advance technologically, to rival that they once used to have.
Treason. The act of sharing information without sanction was treason. He had no choice but to defect from Sharlayan after that and he soon began a proper life within Eorzea, working alongside a team who shared his goals until he lost them too. Now he works alone, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his dreams of rivalling the ancient tech. His Mark of the Sages serving as nothing more than a reminder of a pitiful disillusioned youth brainwashed to let the world pass by around him without interference and the marks are now regularly hidden with glamours lest he stare at them with disdain.
