New Start // [ Aki + Erica]
Having not lived in a town quite this size, exploring the place had been one of the most important activities to do. If he was expected to live here for a while, he had to know where everything was located. Or at least a few placesâŠhe thought thinking small. Aki had always had trouble staying in one place for long, this place being no exception.Â
Snapping out of his thoughts, he barely had enough time to register a voice, let alone what the person was saying, before having to avoid bags of food splattering on top of him. Groaning, Aki lunged, capturing a few in his hands before the rest making a mess on top of him. Ignoring his state, his attention fell to the girl laying face first on the sidewalk. âAre you okay?â he asked, placing what groceries he managed to catch next to her.Â
Erica lifted her head, preparing to speak before blood filled her mouth. Instead, she ended up spitting in the strangerâs face. âOops.â
Being used to such accidents, and therefore desensitized, she merely held her sleeve up to her nose to stem the flow of blood. It was quickly stained an ugly red. âIâm fine!â She chirped, voice nasal for obvious reasons. Now that she was looking at him, she noticed a crucial detail that sheâd previously overlooked. âYouâve got egg on your--â Her eyes went wide. âYouâre an egghead! Hah! Ahahahaha! Thatâs amazing!â She dissolved into a fit, clutching her stomach with her unoccupied hand.
Once sheâd managed to suck in a copper-tasting breath, she shot to her feet. âIâm Erica, by the way! Erica Kay Maverdeen! And,â she leaned in close, as if preparing to whisper a secret, âIâm actually a superhero.â She winked.
âSo, Eggy. Eggbert. Eggstein. Eggboy. Whatâs your name? Age? Occupation? Favorite color?â She clapped her hands together, her sleeve making a wet smacking noise. All of her face below her nose--from her cheeks to her chin--was now smeared in blood. âOh, I remember! I was gonna make food! Well, the foodâs all over you now, and I kinda donât wanna put you on the menu, so fast food it is!â As she said this, something occurred to her. A look of horror crossed her face.
âWait, what if they think Iâm a zombie?! Will they refuse me service?!â She let loose a wail of despair.
