New Start // [ Aki + Erica]
Having not lived in a town quite this size, exploring the place had been one of the most important activities to do. If he was expected to live here for a while, he had to know where everything was located. Or at least a few places…he thought thinking small. Aki had always had trouble staying in one place for long, this place being no exception.
Snapping out of his thoughts, he barely had enough time to register a voice, let alone what the person was saying, before having to avoid bags of food splattering on top of him. Groaning, Aki lunged, capturing a few in his hands before the rest making a mess on top of him. Ignoring his state, his attention fell to the girl laying face first on the sidewalk. “Are you okay?” he asked, placing what groceries he managed to catch next to her.
Erica lifted her head, preparing to speak before blood filled her mouth. Instead, she ended up spitting in the stranger’s face. “Oops.”
Being used to such accidents, and therefore desensitized, she merely held her sleeve up to her nose to stem the flow of blood. It was quickly stained an ugly red. “I’m fine!” She chirped, voice nasal for obvious reasons. Now that she was looking at him, she noticed a crucial detail that she’d previously overlooked. “You’ve got egg on your–” Her eyes went wide. “You’re an egghead! Hah! Ahahahaha! That’s amazing!” She dissolved into a fit, clutching her stomach with her unoccupied hand.
Once she’d managed to suck in a copper-tasting breath, she shot to her feet. “I’m Erica, by the way! Erica Kay Maverdeen! And,” she leaned in close, as if preparing to whisper a secret, “I’m actually a superhero.” She winked.
“So, Eggy. Eggbert. Eggstein. Eggboy. What’s your name? Age? Occupation? Favorite color?” She clapped her hands together, her sleeve making a wet smacking noise. All of her face below her nose–from her cheeks to her chin–was now smeared in blood. “Oh, I remember! I was gonna make food! Well, the food’s all over you now, and I kinda don’t wanna put you on the menu, so fast food it is!” As she said this, something occurred to her. A look of horror crossed her face.
“Wait, what if they think I’m a zombie?! Will they refuse me service?!” She let loose a wail of despair.
From the minute he met the girl, to the point the eggs landed on top of him, Aki was not sure what to make of this girl. He knew people like her, he even carried some characteristics, but nothing to this point. She was a little --- extreme, even for his standards. But that was beside the point. “Are you sure?” he asked. Pausing for a second, his hand reached behind him, taking out a napkin, and handed it her way, concern laced in his usual smile.
He didn’t know when it happened, just that his expression changed, listening to her words and fast movement of her actions. Without a second thought, his smile widened, her laughter almost contagious. He stood, eyes unblinking, taking in all of the names thrown at him. Over the years, he was used to nicknames, being called prince for most of his high school experience.
Listening to her rant, in the heat of the moment, forgetting to introduce himself. “My name is Aki. It’s a pleasure miss” bowing slightly, his smile shining through, the eggs shifting with the tilt. “ To answer some of your questions, I just moved here so I have not really looked for work yet and my favorite is orange” he answered simply, hoping this satisfied the young girl.
By the time his words left, Aki was not prepared for what came next. Turning towards the source of the sound, a moment of panic swept in. He was good at comforting people, that was what he was known for. Stepping the few feet from each other, he lightly placed his hand on her shoulder. “I’m sure you are fine. You just have to clean up a little first” his lips sweeping into one of his princely like smiles.
