Dear 25 year old me
It's weird that you started to write this because you found someone's tumblr and were inspired to write openly. There's a voyeur feeling when it comes to seeing other people's thoughts, and I guess I'm contributing to future me and anyone else who happens to read this.
It's okay if you're having a quarter-life crisis.
Every day is tough, and life is a process, not an end result.
I hope you have been able to trust in God more than ever.
Remember the time when you were hanging out with several friends going to Amy's Ice cream, and you mentioned you were 23, but then a friend called you out and said you were 24. And you stared in disbelief at the Google search result calculating your age to be 24 instead of 23. Wild.
Now you're 25. Even wilder. I hope you are more yourself and who God calls you to be.
Hopefully you have discovered more of what you care about, as well as what you want to do. At the time of writing this, you were going through a lot of trials and had some bearing but also had no idea where you were going.
I hope you are enjoying the season you're in - whether you're happily single, or committed in a relationship, or somehow surprisingly enough engaged (you crazy man).
I hope you are living in integrity, and trying to live daily towards becoming a man of God, even knowing how broken you are.
I hope your newsletter has grown to 500 or even 1000 people. As of writing, you are almost at 200 people, and rethinking your strategy on how you approach in sharing everything. Honestly, you're already way ahead of the game, and you need to relax and enjoy the moment.
I hope you have not lost your heart for God's specific mission. Secret Church by David Platt was a radical shift in your mindset at the time you went through it, and you were considering many big changes in your life, whether mindset or even how you pray, give, and go.
I hope you are praying more. But I also hope that you are relying on God's grace everyday. God means a lot to you.
I hope you are counting others more significant than yourself.
Are you working at RetailMeNot still? Did you get the job at Airtable, or even at another company that is more in line with your passions?
Are you satisfied in life? I hope that you know that whether you're satisfied with your job or not, that everything will be okay. There is an eternal life to consider, and so I hope you are living with eternity in mind.
Are you still crushing on that girl? You like people too easily man, and I'm amazed by how you've changed in the people you liked, or revisiting past feelings. I hope you were able to work through your baggage and recognize it's okay not being perfect or being at a certain level when considering dating. You are doing your best. I hope you fall in love with someone that loves God and lives in the same surrender as you strive to go for. Don't fret man.
Pray that prayer that Scott from that Lunchclub meeting said - Pray the 3 words boldly.
"Make it Obvious"
Anyways, I hope you're still doing Lunchclub, but I understand if you're meeting people outside now, or even being more focused with work.
I wonder if you're still meeting with Keith, your counselor. He's a great guy, and though it's not as specific as you hoped, he really listened and helped guide you through many different ups and downs in life.
I'm glad and proud of you Eric. 25 is a crazy age, and whether you're celebrating by yourself, with family, with friends, or a combination of those 3 (of course you'll be with yourself), I hope you know that God loves you and cares for you, and your identity is set in Him. Live in confidence, even though the truth is you're a very timid boy not certain of what the future as in store at all.
I have high hopes for you, and I want you to know that me, 24 year old guy who's trying to figure out financial structures and direction, and currently staying with family for a week before mom yeets into Taiwan and dad goes on couple month long trips, loves and appreciates you. You aren't perfect, but God's love and my love and care for you is still present. And I hope you can believe even when it's hard that you are worthy, and you have self-worth and you can make a difference in people's lives, whether it's 1 person or 100 people.
Keep it up man.
(also I wonder if your bet on Bitcoin and Ethereum paid off... those capital gain taxes though are kinda wild)
Anyways happy birthday man. Keep on fighting that fight and running that race (I almost wrote rice lol). You've grown a lot over the past several years, and I'm excited to see how you grow in the coming year!
