The moment you choose to spent time with people, help them, enjoy beautiful things, you immediately turn your back to the world events you *cannot* change. The big world likes you to concentrate on 'him' and the result at that very moment would be that you refuse to make a positive contribution to your fellow human beings like a helping hand, inspirational art or in my case music. If the latter was meaningless and just another escape from reality, we would slowly change into heartless cynical nihilists and might as well stop helping, inspiring, making art and music alltogether and the world events would have changed us slowly but shurely into heartless, cynical nihilists. This morning I had great fun with our grandchildren: singing at the piano, drawing, playing, etc. No, you don't change the whole world, but on that morning the whole world of our grandchildren was changed!

Op het moment dat je je gaat bezighouden met je medemens, die helpt, geniet en die laat genieten van mooie dingen draai je je meteen af van het wereldgebeuren waar je *niets* aan kunt doen. De grote wereld wil graag dat je je met 'hem' bezighoudt en het gevolg is dat je op dat moment geen positieve bijdrage aan je medemens kunt leveren d.m.v. een helpende hand of tot inspiratie kunt zijn met kunst of in mijn geval muziek. Als dat laatste zinloos en alleen maar een vlucht uit de realiteit zou zijn zouden we langzaam veranderen in harteloze, cynische nihilisten en zouden we net zo goed kunnen stoppen met helpen, inspireren, kunst en muziek maken en heeft die grote wereld ons weer ietsje meer verandert in harteloze, cynische nihilisten. Net deze ochtend fijn met onze kleinkinderen bezig geweest: liedjes aan de piano zingen, tekenen, spelen etc. Nee, daar verander je de hele wereld niet mee maar op die ochtend wel de hele wereld van onze kleinkinderen!

Want to improve your memory? The “loci” really works, according to science.

So how can you improve memory? It has long been believed to depend on genetics, and research has focused on links between recall and intelligence.

But a new Stanford University School of Medicine study comparing fMRI brain scans of so-called “memory athletes” with normal folks suggests that great recall doesn’t need to be inherited: It can actually be learned.

The loci method, sometimes described as the “memory palace” method, was coined by Greek and Roman orators who had to memorize long speeches without the help of text.

The idea  is pretty simple. Humans are better at processing visual information than textual information, so if you want to remember a ton of words at once, pair each one with an image. Read more (3/8/17 12:12 PM).
