Eric was the blessing that his parents had always wanted. A first born heir to two business monguls, his father had big plans for him. Ericâs dad was the epitome of a rags to riches success story, investing in stock and risky deals in order to make his business succeed. It was no surprise that he put pressure on his son to follow in his footsteps even from an early age. He made his son enroll in piano lessons as well as get his own private tutor at the age of three. If there was one thing he needed, it was to have a leg up. However, Eric just wanted to be a kid. While the neighborhood kids were getting to play together, Eric was stuck inside with a pencil learning how to read and write.
Once he was elementary school aged, Eric quickly learned what his family expected from him: they expected obedience which he was happy to provide in exchange for materialistic items.
His parents met through an arranged marriage of sorts, a business deal that his paternal grandfather had made with his maternal one. Growing up, thatâs how he thought marriages worked. It wasnât about love, it was about business. Business was pushed onto him at an early age. Being an only child, Eric knew that he would eventually take over the family business. Even if it was what he didnât want. He accepted that was his fate and instead of fighting it, he decided to excel at the pressures put on him.
Most would crack under the amount of pressure that he was put under. However, Eric channeled all of his feelings into his extra-curriculars. It probably wasnât great to cover up his emotions but that was how he was raised. In order to run a business, he couldnât show emotion. Every time his father set the bar for him, Eric always reached it without a problem. Eric was a man of few talents, however, the main one being that he knew how to run a business and the other was that he could fake it until he made it.
Being groomed for a business meant that he knew how to speak to people. He used his charm to his advantage most of the time. Whether it was speaking to a girl, or a few, or convincing one of his teachers to bump his grade up one or two points. At Brown, Eric majored in business with a minor in economics, barely getting by because he knew he had a job out of college anyway. Instead, he focused on his relationship with Elena Alvarez, a relationship that would last. Or so he thought. This would be the last time in his life that he would be able to not have to worry about everything and he took full advantage of it during that time. Graduation was bittersweet because he knew what that would mean for him.
Fast forward to everything going well for him, or so he thought. He was going to marry the love of his life, he was moving up in the family business, and it seemed like he had everything. He was just busy with work, unable to have a good social life. That was until she left him at the aisle. Not only was it embarrassing, he didnât care about that fact as much as his parents did, but he loved her and her leaving crushed his whole world. He didnât think that there was any possibility it could be his fault until he did some self-reflecting. When he found out where she was, he knew what he had to do.
Just because he was under his fatherâs watchful eye didnât meant that he wasnât going to do this one thing for himself. With a small check of $500,000 dollars and a new opportunity in Bradford, and with the ulterior motives to see Elena, Eric made the move.
