Brooklyn knew Imogen had been through it. It was all so eerily similar that maybe that was contributing to the attitude problem. She shrugged, scuffing her feet in the dirt a little more. “It’s fine, dad… I’ll be fine. I’m sorry.” Brooklyn mumbled. She didn’t know what else to say. She missed Allie so much and… what was with those weird messages?

Imogen really didn’t want Brooklyn to end up like her, or to close off completely. She knew this was so awful and she just had to hope it wouldn’t get worse. Once she’d gotten everything sorted, she moved to the back door and looked out at them. “Lunch is ready..”

“No it is not, Brooklyn. We didn’t raise to be disrespectful to your mother. You need to apologize to your mum.” There was apart of him that wondered if he should have just moved them to London when he had that chance. When the kids were five. Maybe things would be different. Hearing Imogen, he glanced over at Brooklyn for a moment. “I mean it, little love.” Moving over to Imogen, he kissed her cheek. “I’ll go and get Richard.” @littlebrooklynmatthews

“My best friend is dead, what do you think it going on?” She muttered, knowing that she was taking the whole attitude thing to a level it didn’t need to be at and she didn’t like this side of herself but she couldn’t seem to help it. “I don’t know.” She shrugged, scuffing the ground with her shoe and watching the dog sniff around. “I’m sorry, I’ll stop.” She shrugged.

Imogen set about going to prepare something light and easy, with a little sigh. She knew being that age was hard even without your best friend dying, and God she remembered everything too well, but she was worried about Brooklyn and she felt so far away from her. She missed her.

“I think just because your best friend is dead doesn’t mean that you need to have an attitude with your mother and I. Your mother can help. She has been through this.” There was a small sigh that escaped Eric’s lips. “Sweetheart, we don’t want you to close us off. Let us help you. Let us be there for you whenever you need it. Brooklyn was miserable and she didn’t see how being out here would make her feel any different. She looked up when he came in, frowning. “Fine… what?” She knew she was being difficult but she couldn’t seem to help it. She really wasn’t sure she fully even knew why.

“It’s fine…” She sighed softly, trying to protest but he was already gone. She looked into the next room and then turned away again, trying to decide what to make and hopefully not burn the place down. Not that she was quite that bad anymore. @ericxmatthews​

We can help despite you thinking that we can’t.” It was almost like she had been in contact with Linda. Brooklyn rolled her eyes as she grabbed a can of juice, turning to look at her dad first, then her mother. She shrugged. “Sure… thanks.” She was aware there was a slight attitude and she didn’t like it herself but she couldn’t help it. “Buddy, come on.” She moved through to the living area with the dog and flopped down on the couch.

“Okay. What do you—?” She didn’t finish before Brooklyn was gone. Imogen sighed, exchanging a look with Eric at the way Brooklyn seemed do distanced from her. She didn’t like it. She watched their daughter go through to the other room and then she shook her head and turned to focus on grabbing items of food, focusing as hard as she could on what to make so she didn’t focus on how down she was feeling about Brooklyn,

Eric exchanged looks with his wife before, placing his hand onto her shoulder gently. “I’ll talk to her.” Honestly he didn’t like this. Didn’t like how Brooklyn was treating Imogen. Leaning over, he kissed her head gently. Moving into the living room, he went and sat down next to their daughter. “Brooklyn, we need to talk about how you are treating your mother.” @littlebrooklynmatthews​

She was sitting out with Buddy, watching him enjoy their new surroundings. Brooklyn’s thoughts were so scattered still, she didn’t know what to do or how to feel, but she was trying to pretend. “Come on, Bud!” She called, standing up and moving so she could walk inside finally, seeing her parents. “I’m thirsty..” She murmured, moving towards the fridge.

Imogen smiled over at him, nodding. “That’s all we need….” Right? They’d be fine. She looked up when the door opened and Brooklyn came in with the dog, watching her move towards the fridge. She felt like she was still ignoring her and she didn’t know how to reach her. “Do you want me to make you something to eat?” She asked.

“Right, I mean we could always go to the small town down the road a little bit if we forgot anything.” Leaning over, he kissed Imogen’s head gently. Looking over when Brooklyn came in, he could sense the tense between his wife and their daughter. “Brooklyn, your mother asked you a question. “I feel like we forgot something.” Imogen sighed, as she rummaged through the bag but then she shrugged. “Doesn’t matter… everything we need is here anyway.” She turned to look out the window over the lake, glad they’d done this. “Where’s Brooklyn?”

“I don’t think we did.” Eric stated, looking over at her for a moment. Nodding his head a little bit. “Yeah, it is. We have each other and Brooklyn.” He was glad that she had agreed. It was the weekend she usually went to see her father or where ever she went so he was glad that she had decided to do this with them. “She’s outside with Buddy.” @littlebrooklynmatthews​

Imogen put her glass down with a little sigh, looking up at him when he took her hand, smiling lightly. “Yeah… I know, you’re right…” Imogen just hadn’t realised how hard it would feel, how powerless she’d be. She hoped he was right because Brooklyn shouldn’t be alone through this sort of thing. Shutting yourself off didn’t work and Imogen knew that. “Oh.. okay.” She nodded, trying to shut out the guilt she felt at him saying Emma’s name. “Probably a good idea.”

Eric gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “She will. I promise you this. If anyone knows what she is going through it’s you.” Honestly he hoped he was right also, they would be there for her no matter what. But then again she was like Imogen and shut people out but that wasn’t about to stop Eric from being there. Like he had with his wife. “Yeah, hopefully she can stop the rumors going around that some serial killer is back or out there.” He heard his phone go off, reaching over with his free hand, he read the text. “And the meeting has been pushed back. So I’m free all morning.”

Eric was making sure the doors were all locked, and stuff before heading to bed. It was a habit even back in their little flat. Hearing his phone go off, he took it out and read the message. “Bloody hell..” He muttered when he realized who it was. But then he read the message fully and he shook his head a little bit before heading upstairs and to their bedroom. Noticing the blonde asleep already, he sighed lightly. This had to be some joke or something. She wouldn’t right? Not after everything that they had been through.

“I usually am.” Eric teased lightly, with a grin on his lips as he looked over at her. It had to be tough, Eric knew that Brooklyn shouldn’t be alone but she would come to them whenever she was ready. They couldn’t pressure her. Especially because she was like Imogen. “She’s like you. All of you Ford’s have that flight or fight or not talk about it response. And I don’t know who is rescuing her if she decides the flight option.” And he didn’t like that. He had been there for Imogen and whisked her away whenever things got rough. But who was doing that for Brooklyn if that was what she chose. “I figure after that and you get home from work, we can head up to the cabin.”

Imogen looked up at him and gave him a tiny smile. “Maybe he’ll give her a bit of comfort then.” She said, watching him. She knew he didn’t drink much anymore, though she could remember when he’d had a lot of problems with drinking when he was going through all the shit and she was glad he didn’t need to use it as a crutch anymore. “I really don’t know what to do.” Imogen admitted, thinking about Brooklyn and about, just, everything right now.

“I hope so.” Eric still missed Buddy, but Buddy Jr was a good dog also. He had a drinking problem to deal with everything that happened to him. He would be the first one to admit that. But he didn’t need the crutch anymore and a lot of it was because of Imogen. Reaching out, he took her hand gently. “She’ll come to us when she is ready.” At least he hoped so. This wasn’t exactly easy to deal with and he just hoped it wasn’t starting up again because that would be really bad all around. “I have a meeting with Emma in the morning. She wants to make a statement.”

After dinner, Brooklyn went back up to her room and Imogen sighed as she tidied up a bit and then moved through to the living room, pouring herself a glass of wine. Even though she wasn’t meant to with all her medications. “I’ll just have one, I swear.” She sat down, looking up at him. She was so on edge.

Moving downstairs, that was when he noticed Imogen in the living room with a glass of wine. “Buddy is with her.” He pointed out with a small sigh, as he moved to pour himself one glass as well. “One for the both of us.” Eric didn’t drink that much not anymore. Not since what happened with Faye and the drugging. He couldn’t risk it not again.

Imogen worked up a little smile, nodding. “Okay.” Maybe it would be good to get away for a bit. She could suck it up either way, she needed to remind herself not to shut down. “I’m gonna go check on her, tell her dinner’s coming.”

Eric smiled back at her. “Okay good. This is going to do all some good. I promise.” He nodded his head a little bit, looking over at her for a moment. “Alright, I’ll get the plates and stuff ready.”

Brooklyn smiled, reaching out to run her fingers through the dogs fur when he jumped up on her bed. “Hey, Buddy.” She said, moving to lie back down a little more. “I think I’ll try and sleep now.”

Eric smiled at the little interaction. That was when he stood up from the bed, leaning down, and he kissed her head. “Go ahead, try and get some sleep. If you need me, I’ll be here. Goodnight, my little monkey.”
