GALTx eNews: It’s Greyhound Awareness Month!
Greyhounds are so special that they get an entire month, the month of October, dedicated to awareness of their breed! We hope you will join us in celebrating Greyhound Awareness Month by sharing your story of how you first found out about Greyhounds on our Facebook page in a comment here. A common theme that strikes us is that a lot of us knew nothing of Greyhounds until a chance encounter. For so many, that chance encounter changed everything. An adoption quickly followed, and then another, and another. Many find themselves quickly entangled in volunteering, fostering, and the greyhound culture in a life changing way. It’s Greyhound magic. Greyhounds come with their own language and have the best dance moves like spinning and roaching. They sleep all day and all night and then get up to sleep some more. Sometimes they get up just for a little Greyhound yoga. They come in the 18 different colors of the greyhound rainbow and age like the best wine. Senior greyhounds are said to be the best kept secret of the dog world because of their gentle gratitude. While Greyhounds are not always an obvious choice for agility work, many, such as our own Dolce Gambino, hold all kinds of titles and are accomplished therapy hounds. In fact, the world record for a dog high jump has been held by a Greyhound, Cinderella, for years. They also wear special collars called martingales and are frequently sighted out in public in pajamas. And of course, they are the world’s largest lap dogs.
So please share your Greyhound story with us and share it with everyone you know too. Most of us don’t need an excuse to talk about our hounds and share pictures of them everywhere, but this month it is completely legitimate to be crazy Greyhound parents. Please also consider making a donation to help the hounds this month. We have a special Facebook fundraiser open for Greyhound Awareness Month and of course are always taking donations on our website!
