omg - this was such an interesting request. I was surprised how easy it was to come up with an idea honestly, but I rather like how it turned out. One minor thing, my dyslexic ass mixed up the ages, and I realized that after I'd already written everything...so...it was not intentional đ

Ahsoka was already counting the hours until her shift ended. The place was packed, as usual. Orders for cinnamon lattes, spiced caramel espressos, and other festive drinks from the extensive holiday menu were never ending right now. It was the day before Christmas Eve, and the rush had come early, all those last-minute shoppers crowding in for their seasonal fix.
They were beyond short-handed. Everyone but Ahsoka and Rex had called in sick. Not that they had much of a choice, given the state of the schedule, but it was quickly spiraling into chaos.
Ahsoka wiped down the counter again, half-watching the line that seemed to never end. Rex was across the room, taking another order. Heâd been working at the coffee shop for what felt like forever, even though he was in college, ROTC, and had big plans to join the military as an officer once he graduated. Ahsoka, fresh out of high school, had taken the job because she needed the cash, she was tired of living with Anakin and PadmĂŠ, and while she loved her brother, being the third wheel was a strain on her sanity, and her noise cancelling headphones.Â
She needed to get her own place, but it meant surviving shifts like this.
âGingerbread frappuccino, eggnog latte, candy cane hot chocolate, extra whip, drizzle of extra caramel for Lisa,â Ahsoka called out. She grabbed the cups, and handed them and the drink carrier to the customer with another forced smile.
âYou good?â Rex asked as he wiped his hands on his apron, glancing at her.Â
âIâm surviving,â she said, shaking her head. âBut I swear, if Krell schedules another shift like this, I might just snap.â
Rex snorted. âSame here. I think heâs trying to break us, one shift at a time.â
Ahsoka narrowed her eyes. "If Santa doesn't put him on the naughty list this year, I'm going to have some serious questions." She said, trying to be light about the whole thing.
Rex grabbed another order ticket and stuck it to a cup, tapping the sticky tape on the cup to make sure it held. Â âMaybe weâll get lucky. We could get a few days off after the holidays.â
Ahsoka raised an eyebrow. "You do dream big, donât you?"
She watched him for a moment, his brow furrowing as he worked the espresso machine. His arm muscles flexed under his uniform shirt as he reached for a new milk steamer. Ahsoka couldnât help but let her mind wander for just a second before snapping herself back to reality. She was so tired, she couldnât help but let her mind wander a bit.
âWell, donât hold your breath. Krell doesnât do âholidays,ââ she sighed. Krell was the bane of their existence. Their manager had it out for Rex, and Ahsoka had watched his twisted power plays too many times. Rex just took it, he always did. He said it was better than the others getting it, or getting fired, but Ahsoka wasnât so sure.
It was as if they were in sync, both so used to the constant motion, the endless orders that they made a fantastic team. And maybe something about the way Rex looked at her, made everything seem a little more bearable.
As they got more and more orders out to the customers, Ahsokaâs mind wandered to the email theyâd sent to corporate.
It had started innocently enough, Rex noticing a few discrepancies in the books, small things that didnât seem to add up. Rex was a man of details, and it just didnât sit right with him. He hadnât really gone snooping, theyâd had to deal with an inquiry from corporate and as usual, Krell was nowhere to be found, unreachable for the millionth time. So, they decided to dig a little deeper.
It had turned into late nights at the coffee shop, scrolling through files and reports. Week after week, they spent evenings after their shifts sifting through things, trying to make sense of accounts, looking for something, anything, that might explain what was wrong.Â
At some point, theyâd started to go for beers after, just to unwind. At one point heâd invited her over to his place and they ordered take out. One night, the distance between them finally disappeared and turned into something else entirely. A few casual kisses turned into nights or mornings when Ahsoka would drag herself home smelling like Rexâs cologne and the feel of his kisses and hands on her skin.
Theyâd put their findings together and sent it off to corporate a week ago, hoping something would come of it.  There was a lot of money disappearing and theyâd dug as far as they could go. As the days passed, Ahsoka was feeling less and less optimistic. It was the waiting that gnawed at Ahsoka the most. There was a sinking feeling in her chest that told her, despite their best efforts, nothing would change. There was nothing to do now but to wait and keep working.
Sometime later in the shift, one of Rexâs brothers, Fox strolled into the coffee shop, looking deceptively relaxed in his suit, hands in his pockets. The suit said a lot, he was working then.
"Ordering coffee?" Rex asked suspiciously. "Please tell me this isnât a work order."Â If it was a work order, they were talking at least 20 different drinks for his entire division.
Foxâs smile was more knowing than Rex liked, a hint of something dangerous in it.Â
Fox leaned against the counter, crossing his arms casually. "Just a small coffee, black.â
Rexâs eyebrows furrowed, and he glanced up from the drink he was working on. âWhy are you here exactly?"
Foxâs grin widened just a little, like he enjoyed keeping Rex on edge. "Giving you a heads up. Call it a courtesy. Would like that cup of coffee before I shut you down though."
Rexâs throat tightened. He set the cup down on the counter. "Wait, what?" His mind raced as he shot a quick look over to Ahsoka, who had caught the last bit of the conversation and was now looking curiously at Fox.
âDo I need to call my boss?â Rex asked.
Fox kept that easy smile "Krell? Well... heâs been arrested. And you didnât hear it from me."
Rex froze. "Arrested?"
Fox gave a little shrug, âMoney laundering, embezzlement. Thereâs a whole list of charges. Wonât bore you with the details but Iâm going to need to have you finish up.â He nodded toward the door where two of his uniformed officers flipped the sign to closed.
Twenty minutes later, he and Ahsoka were out of there, turning everything over to Fox and his team. Rex finally exhaled. "Looks like weâre free for the day," he said, untying his apron.
Ahsokaâs lips twitched into a smile as she walked beside him toward his car. "Looks like we finally got that break, even if we are out of a job."
âIs it bad that I donât even care right now?â
âSame.â Ahsoka laughed.
âGuess you got your wish didnât you? Canât imagine sitting in jail lands someone on any good lists.â Rex chuckled.
Ahsoka had to laugh at that.
Rex looked at her as they stopped at his car. "You want to go back to my place?" He said it nonchalantly, like it was no big deal, but the look on his face definitely said it was.
Ahsokaâs smile widened. "I thought youâd never ask."
âď¸ I did some re-drawing the other day⌠and Iâm just as dissatisfied as when I began đ Rex is truly the hardest character to draw, and the eyebrows are the worst. It is just so terribly hard to keep him looking polynesian and classical bishonen enough at the same time without adding too much lines/details đ In hindsight, I should have kept the second version (middle) I thinkâŚ

I love canon divergent AUs, and what is better than a little legends mash-ups? So for the event, I made Ahsoka and Rex in Shaak Ti and Galen âStarkillerâ Marekâs costumes from Felucia used in the videgame Force Unleashed II⌠and it comes in the shape of a fake vintage romance novel cover, because, why not? đ
Iâm satisfied with everything except Ahsokaâs poor, poor boobs which I tried to airbrush like 20 times to look soft and pillowy, but yeah, rendering is hard đĽ˛
I did make an accompanying fanfic for this, but I write at the pace of a snail so itâll take some more time before itâs finished.
Anyway, thank you Solo, for putting the event together, and big hugs to all fellow Rexsoka fans for all the amazing content created during this. It really brightened up an otherwise rather gray month đ
âď¸ Iâve been working on this project for a month, and itâs so time consuming and a bit tedious (and hard đ) to sit and render clothing wrinkles and try not to make it look flat⌠so I made a pause and made this icon-ish thing out of it.
âď¸ Some art I did for my Rexsoka Monthly fanfic Clear Skies over Scarif. It took ages to paint the generic anime beach background and the water looks a bit odd, overall, but Im very satisfied đđťđĽš
