Im not sure if youāll know this, but in the drama Legend of Haolan, some women have a hairpiece where thereās some sort of gold chain going down the hairline, connected to a round decorative piece in the middle of the forehead. I was wondering if this is based on any actual historical hair decoration

No, this is not based on any actual historical Chinese hair decoration. While The Legend of Haolan is set during the Warring States period, a lot of its hairstyling is not meant to be historically accurate.
It's another example of the exercise of creative license that costume designers often take in Chinese guzhuang (costume) dramas, as I explained here.
