Josefina Martinez,
I’m hoping that’s the case, that would mean a couple of situations I’ve been trying to work through will settle down eventually, but at the same time, I tend to keep my expectations low in that regard. I’m so glad you didn’t take my interest in your personal life as being too forward. As I become older I’m learning the importance of slowing down, being mindful and aware of others, just so you know my interest is genuine and I’m not asking for the sake of being curious.
Oh, so you lived in Califonia at some point? That’s where I’m from, lived there most of my life before I joined the service and got a taste of what’s out here in the world. Can I ask what led you to move from California to Hawaii? Did you move there for your studies in law? Not that I blame you! I can think of a more than a few reasons why I’d make that move.
Honestly, I’m not as close with my family as I’d like to be, but I do visit my father as often as I can. My brother, he’s an ambassador for the Special Olympics so he travels all over the place, I probably see him once a year at most and that’s only if I have the time to track him down.
Ah, then we have something else in common. I too, seek out the simple pleasures in life that bring me peace. Indulging in good food is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love to cook and I also like to get outdoors, for a little backpacking and camping out is a favorite thing to do. As far as work goes, I’m a project coordinator with Habitat for Humanity and I currently live in Johannesburg. I moved here after getting out of the service, came for a service project and never left.
Understandable and please do whatever you need to do, I wouldn’t want you to abandon your work and school obligations, we can be random and weird when it’s most convenient for you, ha. Oh except weekend after next someone from the network is coming out to visit with me I think. I don’t mind stopping through your world, I can’t think of a better reason to make my way back to Hawaii. I shouldn’t be too much of a bother, I’m sure there’s plenty I can get into while you’re tying up things with work and school. So begins the adventure then, I’m too excited to fulfill this little fantasy venture of mine, even better with good company!
Oh, can I ask what kind of lawyer you’re studying?
Why do you keep your expectations low? I’ve been seeing more and more how bleak people’s outlooks have become and I always want to insist that there’s a lot of power in hope. Too often we let our fear guide us rather than the positive influences and practices. Curious is a start, isn’t it? I do appreciate the genuine interest though. What has the importance of slowing down taught you?
Most of my life I’ve lived in Los Angeles, yes. Where did you live? What brought you to join your military? It’s a wide world out there. I’ve found myself straying from too much economy and civilization though, I appreciate the quiet and less complicated life. Could’ve been Los Angeles that did me in there. What reasons would you make the move? I moved to distance myself from things and found I really fit here.
Is your father home in California? What keeps you away from them so much? Aside from your brother’s traveling.
So Johannesburg has really captivated you and made you feel at home I take it? Your projects take you to many places don’t they? Have any favorites? It’s always a pleasure to meet and know like-minded individuals. I don’t camp too often though, I have been known to sleep on the beach on occasion though. Cooking became very different living out here, something I think I learned to simplify and enjoy more.
Well you’re welcome to come out whenever and roam around while I take care of the things I need to. I can also point you in the direction of places and things to explore if you’d like. There’s some really great hiking up in Hawi and Waimea areas, you could borrow my Jeep and ATV if you’d like. It’s especially nice in the Hawi area because some vistas offer you the view of Maui.
Sure. I’m studying criminal law, most likely looking to be a defense attorney. It’s all for personal reasons and wanting to fight back against gross mishandlings in the justice system.
