On this episode of INSIDE MUSIC, host James Shotwell calls Brandon Pagano of Handguns and the two spend an hour talking about Brandon’s life in music. They start with current events, but quickly work their way back to the Pagano family’s move from NYC to Albany. From there, Brandon shares stories about his first band, his work on solo material, and the times he has spent with Handguns. He also discuss the future and everything the band hopes to accomplish moving forward.

What is your favourite preset for Lightroom?

i make my own custom presets on lightroom.

i don't use the ones that are provided.

but, what is yours?

I am not trying to be rude but you stated in an answer on here before that you need to be apart of a publication in order to get a photo pass. That isn't always the case. I do not work for a blog, magazine, etc and I have been granted access to photograph popular bands from Europe when they tour in the US this spring!

it's of no benefit to the record label/band/tour to have someone who isn't working for them or going to promote them through their social media/publication. 

so in most cases, you will only be granted a photo pass to a show if you work with a publication.

If someone gets a photo pass, are you only allowed to snap photos of one band or? and correct me if I am wrong, but are you only allowed to take photos for their first three songs? Also, where do you pick up a photo pass when you are at the venue? How does the venue know you were issued one?

a lot of venues have a 3 song rule. not every venue though. 

a photo pass should be at will call. 

some tours will only allow you to shoot the band you're approved for. it all depends on the management of the headliner.

I know this is a long shot but do you happen to know where the location of the new memorial is for Mitch?

you’re still allowed to leave candles/art/photos etc on main and 12th where the crash site was.

his family will pick everything up and take it to his headstone.

his burial site is

it closes at 5pm every day. if you go on the main entrance, it’s the second left. it’s a small cemetery so it’s easy to spot his headstone. it’s in front of a tree that has wind chimes on it.

What setting is your camera usually on? What photo editing software do you use? And do you have any advice for someone looking to become a band photographer?

there are infinite amounts of settings for your camera based on subject/lighting/location/lens/body. just practice a lot with whatever camera you can get your hands on!

i use Lightroom 5

just like everyone else in this industry, you're going to have to work hard. if it's what you really want to do, then don't give up! it's competitive, and theres a lot of people who try to just jump into it and give up after a year or two. set realistic goals and a budget. equipment isn't cheap but it is necessary. research/rent lenses/bodies/flashes/etc before you buy the most affordable product. then practice, A LOT. Photograph any live performance you can! open mic nights/band of the bands/bars. it's an ongoing learning process. once you become confident in your work, that's when you can start networking with publications for intern work and such.
