I remember when I first saw her on TV while she protested under Swedish parliament. At the time I was deep into reading about climate change, feminism and social injustice, but I struggled to express it in the world, not seeing my individual actions as impactful or necessarily important. In 2018 I saw a girl, younger than me, European like me, using her platform and privilege to do something that's right and do something important. I saw her being heard and using her platform for good, more importantly, I saw a point in how I lived my life going forward. Since then I have protested, organised and donated. I try to speak out about issues that don't concern me, because she showed me it always matters, even if you don't make a difference, even when it's not appreciated by people in power. Because being silent is being ignorant. What you do everyday matters, what you do as a small person, how you talk with others, what you read, how you think, what you care about, donating smallest amounts of money - it all matters. We make small differences every day and language is our most powerful tool.
I hope Greta Thunberg, Rima Hassan, Yasemin Acar, Baptiste Andre, Thiago Avila, Omar Faiad, Pascal Maurieras, Yanis Mhamdi, Suayb Ordu, Sergio Toribio, Marco van Rennes and Reva Viard will be safe, but no matter what we should use the situation to make a difference for Palestine. We should write to their and our local politicians to make a move now.
