SUNHOUSE - ENERGY PRODUCING NURSERY
Architect: CHRISTENSEN & Co. (CCO)
Location: Hoersholm, Denmark
The nursery is built on ‘Active House’ principles and is yet another example of how considered architectural design and integrated energy technologies is the recipe for sustainable architecture. The compact building is designed as a triangle, with the two longest facades facing south east and south west. The windows along the facades and the roof lights, allow more than three times as much light to enter as in a standard building, ensuring a healthy indoor climate.Â
The purely architectural solutions, the form of the building and the choice of materials including high performance glass and generous amounts of insulation, ensure that even without any high-tech renewable technologies the building actually produces energy. The southern part of the roof has solar collectors and photovoltaic panels to generate heating and electricity. The shed housing the toys for playground fun are equipped with outdoor pedals, the children then has to collaborate in producing the energy for the shed, in order to get light inside.
The nursery is developed in a strategic partnership consisting of; Hoersholm Municipality, VKR Holding and Lions Children house. Developed in collaboration with Hellerup Byg (Contractor), Ramboll DK (Engineers) and Christensen & Co architects.
