Hi everyone. If you don't know this about me, I work as a historian and I focus on language preservation/Indigenous history. Polynesian history is something deeply personal and important to me.

February is Hawaiian Language Month (Mahina 'Ōlelo Hawai'i). 'Ōlelo Hawai'i is one of the few Indigenous languages brought back from almost extinction. It's not perfectly preserved, but there are many more speakers today than there were even twenty years ago.

After the illegal coup overthrowing the monarchy, it became forbidden to speak 'Ōlelo. Since the mid-20th century, 'Ōlelo has made a comeback with the opening of nā Pūnana Leo (language nests) and immersion schools. In 1978, 'Ōlelo became one of the officials languages of Hawai'i, in addition to English.

In 2012, Mahina 'Ōlelo Hawai'i was established to promote the language and culture of the Kānaka Maoli. I encourage all of you to take the time and learn about the language and why it's so important. Below is a wonderful panel: 'O ke Ea I Kanaka he 'Ōleleo: our Language is our ea.

If you are interested in learning 'Ōlelo, it should not be because you think it's cool or to add a language to your language bank. Think about what you will give to the community by learning this language, how you will do it with respect, and what you will do with this knowledge.

I have been a student of 'Ōlelo for about a year and my skills are still incredibly rudimental. I speak more than some of the Kūpuna at my Hālau but I always make sure to take the time to share my knowledge.

I am genuinely sorry for the people who were actually excited about The Book of Boba Fett, first because they made him the least interesting part of the show, and now because he's not even in the show.

so i haven’t seen the episode yet only what people have been saying on here, but the main questions i have are what’s the point of this show? what do they have planned for season 3 that they can’t fit these past two episodes of the mandalorian 2.0 in? And was it worth it making your audience distrust and kinda loath the vision and usage of these characters, as well as making it seem like there is no actual care for them (the fans and characters)?

this show was marketed as boba fett and fennec and their badassery and no where was mando in that marketing. like cool i get it if it’s like a surprise cameo but this is two episodes surrounded by a totally different storyline and it’s making me wonder if they made these episodes to air in case people were having not good reactions to tbobf. like they thought “drop these in, I know we were saving for season 3, but these people are thirsty for din and grogu and it’ll keep them satisfied”

or they had these two episodes written and budgeted and planned, didn’t feel like they fit in with the end of season 2 or beginning of season 3 (which it totally would of??? or just release them as like one giant mini movie before season 3 comes out to hype people up for it)

it’s like disney is loudly trying to scream to the world “we ARE inclusive, we DO care about people of color, see our two leads are people of color. yes, Bob and Fennel, two people of color and they ARE the stars of the show except for the episodes we are putting more money and care into that you won’t even show up in :)).”

i would say for disney to do better, but they should have known. they aren’t stupid, they know what they are doing. and it’s a fucking shame.

Honestly, I don't even think we'll see Rex in the Ahsoka show anymore. Or Cody in Kenobi. As long as Favreau and Filoni are in charge, they've made it clear that accurate representation that honors Polynesian and Indigenous people don't matter to them.
