after nyx was defeated, it should've been the end for ryoji mochizuki as well. even a month before the final battle, the ryoji you knew and loved was already long gone

luckily for both of you, you were now wide awake. the shock and the adrenalin made it possible for you to think straight, quickly rushing to check luka's body. pulse was steady. no obvious broken bones or injuries. except for a cut on his chest, only visible if you flipped him over. a bit of blood, but he probably didn't pass out from that. the exhaustion must've been it, coupled with luka likely running out of adrenaline.
“you're lucky this is the balcony you crashed on, you know~?” you huffed softly, trying to joke, even if there was nobody to hear it. maybe it was to ease your own nerves, as you pulled luka inside, heaving him onto your bed.
“he is lucky…”
you flinched, as you suddenly did hear a voice. a small snake-like creature flew towards you and you quickly recognized it as luka's kwami, even if you had never seen it before. but you knew what a kwami looked like. you had one of your own, after all…

luka sat in silence for a moment, letting everything sink in. he never meant to tell anyone about his identity. not if he could avoid it, at least. and now he had dragged you into this mess. his mess!
“please, don't tell anyone about this.” luka's gaze found yours again, as he looked at you with pleading eyes. “not that i'm viperion, nor that i crashed into your place. it would be best… if you just forgot this ever happened.”

“didn't know that you were viperion. until now~” you hummed back.
the two of you sat in silence for a moment, simply staring at each other, with smiles lingering on both of your faces. then, luka sat up straight at the edge of the bed, still holding eye contact.
“is there a way i can make this up to you, perhaps? i made you worry about me and take care of me all night and now i'm forcing you to keep such a big secret…” luka sighed softly.
“mmhh…” you thought about it for a moment, before a little smile snuck onto your lips. “perhaps you could promise me something: if i'm ever in danger, i want you to come and save me. you, viperion – either of you. just keep an eye out for me and we're good.”
“that's it?” it seemed like too little for all the trouble that luka caused you.
“maybe take me out for ice cream on top of it and then we're even” you suggest with a smile.
“like… a date?” luka tilted his head to the side, as a smile snuck onto his lips.
“i– uh…” now you were the one who got caught off guard. luka chuckled, as your cheeks turned the slightest bit of red.

but when that moment truly came, it was worse than you had imagined. you weren't in colony 9 anymore, instead being runaways, hunted by both agnus and keves. and you had learned about moebius and the secret behind homecoming. it was like one last punch to the gut, to hear that there really was nothing after death. it was as you always feared.
