A hiker’s paradise: springtime in the Cascade mountains.

Taken from the vantage point of Heybrook Ridge – itself a very popular hike – this photo looks out on the Skykomish River valley and across to the bold stature of Mount Index (left) and Mount Persis (center right).

Two more of the most popular hikes in this area are just across the way. Lake Serene lies at the base of that collossal north wall of Mt. Index, a long but worthwhile 8.5 mile hike. Bridal Veil Falls, which starts as a stream trickling off from Lake Serene and culminates in a massive plunging waterfall on the slopes across the valley, makes for a pleasant, if busy, 5-mile day-hike.
