why do you ship klayley isn't that kinda toxic?

Before I answer this I’d like to point out The Originals is a show about Vampires who murder people regularly. EVERY ship of the show has it’s toxic aspects.

But IMO the least toxic relationship is Klayley. Everyone likes to moan and groan about the ONE time Klaus choked Hayley while she was pregnant. I’m not defending that OFC. No excuse for it. But let’s also not forget Elijah did the same thing….Tyler attacked her while pregnant too. A dozen witches attacked her while pregnant. Hayley got fucking attacked a lot while pregnant lol.

Out of every relationship on the show romantic or otherwise Klaus and Hayley have had the most growth and development. People like to talk about how terrible Klaus treated Hayley, but Hayley wasn’t exactly a peach to Klaus. She gave as good as she got in that aspect.

In season 1 they had a very confrontational relationship. Their dislike for each other was very apparent and yet despite that they both craved approval from the other which leads me to believe that there was more than just dislike there.

Once Hope was born and Hayley became a hybrid things between them changed. They still had issues with each other and they fought, but it was clear that despite that they no longer wanted the other out of their lives.

Klaus has never been physically violent with Hayley outside of what happened in season 1. And people like to throw in the whole forcing her to be a wolf thing. Yes, that was RUDE AF and it sucked. But also, let’s remember Dahlia wanted him to kill her. And also remember Hayley listened to that idiot Jackson and was taking Hope away from her family, which isn’t even something Hayley really wanted to being with she always wanted Hope to have her family. And Klaus is vindictive, a quality Hayley shares lol.

Anyway over the course of five seasons they both grew as individuals and then they grew together. It was at the end of season 3 where we really started to see them as being partners for their daughter and for each other. They didn’t just want to exist and keep going. The both of them wanted to break the cycle of violence that they’d lived in for so long and give their daughter something better. They didn’t want Hope to be like them, to make the same choices, they wanted her to be better than them.

Season 4 even after the five-year gap they were completely on the same page when it came to Hope and how they saw things. And then in season 5 Klaus was the only one in the family who fought for Hayley (Elijah gets a pass no memories) But Freya gave up the second she was gone. (Which was super annoying since she’s the one who spent the last 8 years with Hayley. But this post isn’t about that lmao)

Look, I just think they got lost in the whole putting together a babies parents is boring thing and didn’t even attempt to explore what a relationship between the two of them could have been. Season 2 would have been the perfect time to transition things into a romantic relationship because things between her and Elijah weren’t good. They had a common goal and I think over the years we’ve seen the two of them change and grow the most. And I think if they would have worked really well together.

Plus I just think they are fucking cute together okay? LOOK AT THEM
