Monuments in the Anthropocene

If your name is etched in stone for centuries, will it make you rethink your position? Legendary news anchor Dan Rather is proposing a monument for climate deniers: "I think we should erect a monument built from materials impervious to the elements and list the names of all the elected officials and others in positions of power today in the United States who refuse to stand with the science on climate change." https://www.facebook.com/theDanRather/posts/10157876777645716 Climate is a political problem. Climate science is advancing with every new dataset and every new modeling. The Keeling curve plots inexorably up and to the right, not in a good (investment) way. The data is the data. Unless you scrub it. Scientists are backing up data in the USA fearing Trump's data vaporizer political appointments. Financiers and engineers can maybe get widgets built to adapt our lives, but our lives will be different. Try getting snow insurance if you run a ski resort or coastline storm surge insurance if you're building less than 8ft above current sea level mark. More anxiously, what about the millions who have no smartphones and depend on reliable moderate weather to grow their food? Adapting human civilization to the Anthropocene era when the earth is shaped by humans is the reality of the 21st century. Memorializing the names of people who think they can buy their rich lives out of its consequences is one approach. Maybe we can levy taxes their grandchildren would pay, because it'll be pretty obvious 2 generations from now. Monuments have a role. How to act right now, how to take the keys from the drink driver?
