ESL Struggles

This is a blog depicting the day to day struggles of our foreign girlfriends. Both were born in the United States, are around 26, and have college degrees. There are however certain cultural and language barriers here in America that are simply too complex for their understanding. Nataly is Colombian and is engaged to David (DJ) after dating for many years. Tricia is Vietnamese and has been dating Evan for over two years. This blog started in the summer of 2013 and the stories are being told usually from either the perspective of DJ or Evan with a conversation recap or by way of text message to one another.

A Valuable Lesson

*Nataly and David discussing whether or not carrying cash around is a good idea* Nataly: why don't you carry a lot of cash in your wallet? David: it's just a mental thing. If I don't have it, I can't spend it. It helps me budget. Nataly: oh, I know! That's why I NEVER have any cash!

Evan: it was a rattlesnake. Probably an Arizona Diamondback rattlesnake

Nataly: noooo, it couldn’t have been one of those because there are no rattlesnakes here. We don’t live in the hot!

Tricia: I can't find these laser cut cards on Amazon Evan: you can probably find them on google then? [several minutes later] Tricia: oh, never mind, I found them on Amazon. I spelled it wrong Evan: how did you spell it, with a z? Tricia: l-a-s-o-r????? Evan: 😑

Evan: Oklahoma City and Golden State Tricia: oh wow, I should have known that Evan: yes, the court says "Oklahoma City Thunder" Tricia: well I saw OKC and I knew that was Golden State but I wasn't sure who GSW was

Nataly: I don’t eat chicken on the weekends. I only eat it during the week. Chicken is so basic!

Nataly: yeah but I like movies and tv shows that you can imagine

Tricia: but Game of Thrones you can imagine because it’s not real

Nataly: yeah but you can’t really imagine it because that was happening in the 50’s

Nataly: no but seriously at least the 20’s that was happening
