Let her be everything, because she is everything.
And like the moon, She had a side of her So dark, that even the stars Couldn’t shine on it; She had a side of her So cold, that even the sun Couldn’t burn it.

“Oh right, sorry. Well, you’ll get used to it. I hardly even notice those flashes anymore.”
“How is that even possible...” She wondered aloud, locking arms with her so she didn’t trip over her own heels. “And to what do I owe the honor of this lovely fancy dinner?”Â
“Cyprus oil? I might have to look for it next time I run errands.” An inhale of warm summer air filled her lungs, as toes splayed in the cold wet. “Last year it was a little colder, but still bad enough.”
“Yeah - it stimulates circulation which helps reduce the swelling,” Esmeralda shrugged, dipping her own feet in the cold water. “I sympathize. The ventilation at my apartment broke, which makes it worse.”
“Smile, would you. There are so many cameras around us.“
“I would if I wasn’t being temporarily blinded!” She said, smiling.Â
“Swollen feet during this kind of weather is a terrible thing to endure, so –”, she says while bare feet dove into the cold water of a fountain.
“That actually makes sense, I guess,” she nodded, sitting on the dry part of the fountain. “Swollen? Cyprus oil helps. But yes, Rome’s heat waves are not pleasant.”
“Do  explain.”
"Rachel shouldn't gotten off the plane, is what I'm saying." She shook her head, "That, and isn't that type of gun a bit impractical? A sniper for a short range shot seems a bit overkill."
“I’m no expert, but that seems like a terrible idea.”
I know. You’re not going to hurt my feelings snapping at me. I’m a grown man. I know when someone is just letting out their anger and I won’t take it to heart. She is a strong woman, but like all people, we crack when we’re thrown into something we’re not ready for.
Do you want to drink with me?
Look - I really am sorry though. I usually don’t snap at people...this whole getting upset at things has never been my thing. Catherine’s my friend - next time you see her, tell her I said hi? I don’t want to see her hurt.Â
I don’t drink alcohol, but yes.Â
I haven’t a clue what the fuck l’appel du vide means. I can only say what I know and I’ve already told you what I think…Your friend is right, though. This is a beautiful view of Rome. It’s unfortunate that what’s inside the city is something darker.Â
She’s…surviving.Â
It’s some French thing - call of the void, temptation to jump. I’m really sorry for snapping at you - everything has just been so stressful lately. But yes, MJ’s got good taste in views. Hopefully this view gives the city something to aspire to.Â
That doesn’t sound good. She’s a strong person, and I have faith in her, but I worry.Â
Because you’re standing on a roof top asking questions about suicide. I think it’s only logical someone would assume that. Anyways, you should see me when I don’t have glass in my head. Pain is the worst.Â
You’re right. I’m sorry. But I’m not standing on a rooftop asking questions about suicide. I just asked if you ever felt the high place phenomenon or l’appel du vide. A friend showed me this place once. It’s got an amazing view of Rome. I just came here to remind myself that this city isn’t hopeless, not to die.Â
It is. How’s Catherine?Â
He only gave a stern nod at her defense. Angelo would believe that, after all, everyone hanging out on the roof wasn’t there to jump. “Right.” There were a few moments of tense silence as Angelo waited for the woman to roll up her sleeves, wanting to confirm her words with his own eyes. However, as soon as his eyes landed upon the thin cross hatched pattern of scratches lining Esmeralda’s arms, the hacker’s defensive stature faltered. Those weren’t bruises - and he certainly doubted someone else inflicted them the night of the massacre. His silence only stretched as Angelo’s eyes slowly drifted from the cuts to the other’s gaze, his expression remaining impassive despite the whirl of thoughts circling his mind. Crossing his arms over his chest, Angelo released a long breath, shaking his head. “Talk to Pascal.” It wasn’t a question, his tone obviously suggested that. Instead, it was a simple command for the woman to visit the gang’s psychiatrist, and by the stern gaze that followed, it was also obvious he meant soon. The man liked Es, he did, he trusted her too, but she was the nanny for Enzo, and if these were the things she were getting herself into lately? Walking around on the roof, talking like she did and showing him these marks adorning her arms? He just needed to make sure his nephew was safe in her care.Â
“I don’t need a therapist.” she defended. Everything about her scars made her incredibly sensitive. “Before you get even more upset, just listen to me okay?” She didn’t want Angelo to hate her - or worse, not trust her with Enzo. And she did like him, and that’s why she felt he owed him the truth. “These aren’t new - I was in a car accident when I was 18, drunk driver and a hit-and-run. Someone I loved died, I was in a coma and broke almost every bone in my body. I was pierced by a hand rail. And I don’t like talking about it,” she said more defensively than before, “but all I’m going to say is that I’m clean now, and you don’t need to worry about me. My mother almost died, my sister did die, and I broke a vase and accidentally cut myself cleaning it up.” The last part was only a half-truth. “I am fine. I’m not suicidal. I - I just don’t like showing people my scars. That’s why even though its summer I always wear jackets and long skirts.” So please, just don’t worry about me. Or my ability to take care of Enzo. Especially my ability to take care of Enzo." She took a shaky breath. “I won’t talk to Pascal - but I’ll talk to my old therapist.”Â
“You don’t even know what you’re doing.”
“I can totally fix my own computer.”Â
About half an hour passed by. “Okay. I totally can’t fix my own computer.”Â
“I was on an episode of Cops once.”
“…I don’t know what that is.”Â
