wow they’re just bros talking about how things are going and how havoc can’t have automail because his spine is partially severed and breda’s face just that pure anger and stubbornness and frustration and it’s not over yet, he doesn’t just give up, this isn’t suitable for havoc, they’re not a team who just gives up

If you stop and think about it for just a second, you realize that Mustang is essentially in a state a gradual mental/moral decline from the time Hughes dies to when he lets go of everything that’s been eating away at him in episode 54. He doesn’t sleep much, he doesn’t eat right — Sheska tells him he should get more rest, and the Major makes a point of pointing out that he’s not as in shape as he usually is. He can hide or ignore what Hughes’ death is doing to him psychologically, but he certainly can’t hide the physical toll it’s taking on him.

What really devastates me about all of this is though is that if others are noticing these things, then you can be damn sure that Riza’s noticed them in even greater detail.

Everyday when she walks into work, she looks over at him — and she knows he didn’t sleep the night before, knows he probably skipped a good meal last night.

And it hurts her.

It hurts her to see the man she loves — the man who’s life she’s supposed to protect — do this to himself. And it eats away at her because she can’t do much about it. She can’t spend the night by his side, she can’t comfort him when he might need it, and she can’t watch over him constantly.

Seeing Roy fall like this gnaws at her, but she also keeps pushing it aside just the same way he is — which is partly why it comes crashing down so hard in episode 54.

She’s been watching him for months and she knows that whatever this is, it’s absolutely consuming him.
