Mini Guideline in Contacting Fae
This is in response to a ask made awhile ago, and I finally had time to put it together. It’s just quick, simple, and in my opinion. People can approach this however they want, but this is just my advice.
1. Research. Understanding fae can go a long way in contacting and establishing relations with them. Folklore, and mythology are a good place to start as well as reading whatever you can get your hands on. The more you read the more you begin to see more proper information and can count out what is fluff when dealing with fae. Also, I like to think of it this way. You would research a little about a foreign country before you travel there.
What do I mean by ‘fluff’? I mean is the information that describes all fae as little, winged creatures that are loveable and kind. Not to say there aren’t lesser fae that are little, winged and can be kind. However, faelore before, if I recall correctly, the 18th and 19th century is very dark because fae are not the cuddly entities that pop culture make them out to be.
2. The next step I would do is leave offerings. I would leave out some honey or something sweet for them outside, declaring out loud that it is for them. I would begin to leave the offerings outside, you do not want to allow the chance of a malicious fae into your house, especially if you are just starting to make contact.
Take it slow at first. The more you begin to make contact, the more you can identify the intent of each individual fae and the more comfortable you will feel.
3. Meditation/Seeing. Meditation is a very helpful practice for “seeing.” Unless one is blessed with the second sight, typically many individuals who work with fae see through envisioning. For example; I’m staring out a window. My physical eyes see the garden outside, but in my mind sees the garden along with a tall, women in a dress twirling around. This is what I mean by “seeing.” Noticing something’s there in your mind when physically you cannot see anything.
This is where meditation becomes a very useful tool. In states of panic, paranoia and etc. we can easily imagine that there’s something there when there isn’t. Having a calm mind can help focus and differentiate if there is something really there or not. However, meditation takes a lot of practice and seeing takes even more practice. It’s something that effort has to been given in order to receive.
4. Have fun with it. Fae can be such wonderful companions and teachers as well as some can be cruel and tricksters. They are not human, but like humans there are so many different personalities, quirks, and faults that every fae possess. Be wary at first, you wouldn’t trust someone complete you just met down the street and the same concept applies to fae. Build upon the meetings, think of creative activates to do together, be curious but respectful and everything will be worthwhile.
