She’d lost her escorts back in the crowd, tying her skirt together in a knot at her thigh before climbing up and away from where they’d be looking. On the upper level of the market vendors hawked their wares to passers by. The smell of fresh cut flowers and sweet fruits combined with the richer scent of spices and smoke rising up from the smithies below. Quickly untying her skirt, she smoothed out the edges as if nothing had happened.

She’d been a climber most of her life, from the oaks of her gardens to the ivy crawling up the walls of her home. Scaling up a small wall in a market was nothing to fret over. Arya prowled the square and walking among the people. Overhearing conversations and listening to the stories until she felt a presence behind her. Fearing she’d been caught, Arya turned on her heel with a grin. “Looking for something?”

“Steady.” Estella’s voice cooed in the air as she pulled the reins on her horse to stop along the wall. There was a post that she tied her horse around every ray of the morning that struck noon on her makeshift sundial. It was in her every day trade to set up at her booth and try to gather what little she could to survive just as the other villagers. Estella was a witch of simplicity, she sold herbs, spices, and concoctions of the two, and beneath the table was an array of crystals and potions. (none that would deem any harm, of course.) Unlikely to score her riches, out of passion, there was paintings she used with berries, and oils, along with whatever materials she could gather from the natural wood. They hadn’t ever sold much, and often the witch would just hand them free of charge to any passer by who took a lingering eye to them.

“Guilty of something?” Her tone was dry, and conspicuous, but the cock of her eyebrow was at play as the younger woman confronted her. After a few moments of nothing but buzzing noises around them, Estella shrugged her shoulders, “Your skirt is wrinkled in one place,” she observed, “Adventuring?” The woman only made an effort to speak of it, as she often tied her linens in the same thigh height. It was because she herself was always rebellious for adventure, and often doing more activities that a ‘lady’ shouldn’t do. Hmph. “--Im not following you, just simply walking the village as I do every morning.--are you in need of direction?” The younger girl looked unput in these surroundings, especially alone. Her hair was shiny under the sun, and Estella questioned her to be just a simple villager. --but her judgment fell silent.

Nova let out a loud sigh as she walked away from the tavern’s patron. She longed for the night to be over and to be able to go back to her small and quiet room. She treasured the nights where she left the loud and busy tavern where she didn’t need to talk to anyone or fetch what felt like a mindless number of drinks. But it was not the worst job, the pros certainly outweighed the negative aspects. “What would you like?” She asked as she rounded the next table.

Alcohol had the reputation of a saint. It was medicinally used, alchemist cleansed in hopes to turn something into gold, and it was practically used in every meal. The water wasn’t certain to trust, most people Estella knew from the village who took to drinking from the murky river became green with sickness. “Wine.” she spoke simply to the bar maiden. For Estella, drinking the common crimson liquid was to cover her own grief. It was heavy on her shoulders from her mothers recent passing, and the more painful of her husband, her children-- but through it all, with berries, and herbs, she created more vulnerable art. “Please.” the corners of her mouth pursed in a small grin.

“You know the price for your future, child. Don’t tell me you came here empty handed.” Kennedy’s little cabin was filled to the brim with stuff. Mainly charms, wind chimes made from bones – it was just how she liked to live, and she liked to make sure no one mistook her for a feeble woman. Her mutt was sleeping on the bed, and she motioned to the chair on the other side of the table. “Did you come for something specific?”

The older witch’s dark hair was weaved in long braids within the gathered mess of it’s thickness. The weaving resembled the weaved doll she once made for her daughters, and now kept in the worn pocket of her skirted linen. It was why she had came on foot to the others cabin, though it wasn’t too far, Estella had just lived on the other side of the wood. It was just outside the village along a mossy swamp that was petaled with blown flowers. “I brought howelite.” Pulling her hand out of her pocket, she revealed the healing stone. “--and camphor oil..” there was a desperate swallow, she was in need to heal painful memories.

“Fair enough,” Elijah mused with a small shrug. It was easy to tell who grew up around here and who was still finding their footing. The witch made a small face at Estella in turn at her statement. “I’m tired, but not that tired,” he retorted, only rolling his eyes in light-hearted nature. It wasn’t her fault that he was tired either, so Elijah wasn’t trying to be rude to her. “Two months, huh? How do you like it then? And trust me, you’re not a bore. There’s plenty of boring people out there, but we’ve only just met. How would I know otherwise?”

“You make a very fine point.” though her voice was dry at times, it didn’t drip too deep into tones that would come out off-putting. Estella was sometimes hard to figure out, but she always strayed from being arrogant. Sometimes she just had a hard time finding her footing with other people- blame it on her upbringing on not being surrounded by the outside world. If she hadn’t rebelled in her teen youth, the woman would have been stuck to only knowing the small life of the farm she once grew upon. Never did she think she would travel wide to New York. It was a different taste of freedom, or so she had hoped. “Sounds rather fresh, doesn’t it?” Two months sounded like nothing, but it felt like forever. The city was certainly a surrounding to adapt to. “I like it.” Bluntly, the dark-haired witch nodded her head. “I adapt well, I like to think.” A small laugh hummed at her lips. There was some uncertainty on her lips. “I was fortunate enough to land a job quickly, and am just getting comfortable settling my roots. We do the best we can with what we have.” The sentence was true, but damn was it hard to bite sometimes. “--and you, Mr. Tired-eyes, are you originally from this slab of diverse concrete?” the corners of Estella’s lips began to curl.

If only he could sleep; that was perhaps the source of his issues. “You’d think, huh?” he muttered, rubbing at his eyes. It wasn’t that he was upset or annoyed by her sarcasm; it’s just that he didn’t have the energy with his ruined sleep schedule. “It’s fine,” the witch murmured, waving his hand carefully so that the other woman wouldn’t have any misunderstanding. “You new around here? I’m surprised you even replied. Most New Yorkers keep to themselves anyways.”

Rhodiola rosea, just a pinch, and maca blended to perfect a unique concoction of green tea would put all of the man’s tiredness to rest, but Estella wasn’t going to offer to take such tender care of a stranger. She learned that could be off putting, especially in a city. The people weren’t as welcoming as her spirit was back home. “New?” lashes double blinked. Two months was still fresh in the concrete jungle. The woman was certain a lifetime could pass and still she wouldn’t ever feel like a commonly settled New Yorker. “You could say,” it was almost played coy. “-- New enough to not shrug you off, but not new enough to have a daily coffee routine.” A small smirk pressed to her lips. “Quite far from home actually, but I moved here about two months ago. I like it...don’t get me wrong--- but it’s certainly a change...---but please, don’t let me bore you....or rather, lull you to sleep.”

Mind fixed solely on the burning of her tattoo, which meant there was a witch practicing black magic nearby, Beatrix was completely unaware of anyone speaking to her at first. Her brain processing the voice slowly as right now it was a low priority to the hunter. “Right, um, coffee,” Bea replied, still not paying much attention. “Wait,” She said, finally turning to the older brunette, “Sorry, I don’t work here, and you wouldn’t want me making your coffee. I suck at making it.” Bea definitely lived up to British stereotype when it came to tea.

“Right.” Of course she didn’t work here. The word was disappointed, call it eagerness for caffeine. The art curator certainly had an addiction to coffee.With slumped shoulders the brunette couldn’t help but laugh. Her fingers pinched the bridge of her nose before she shook her head apologetically. “Of course, of course--- where is my mind?” Another laugh, this one more kind hearted and feathery in tone. “It’s late I suppose,” -the excuse for her mistake.- “Making coffee is mindless when you have an addiction-- then any coffee, good or bad does the trick. I’m sure you’d make a fine batch--- but I won’t ask of it from you.” Estella shook her head again. “--but you’re alright?”

Levi laughed as she announced that she had worked through her lunch again, it was something he did quite often. Sometimes he didn’t have time to sit down at a restaurant to eat and had to just each whatever leftovers he had in his office or save the leftovers for when he stayed late. “There are far worse habits,” he laughed. “I think working hard is the best habit one could have compared to the countless others.”

“Oh no,” he said with a shake of his head. “I was just stopping by to see how everything was going. I was meant to have a meeting with someone but they cancelled last minute so I actually have some free time for a moment.”

“Free time--?” The corners of the woman’s lips curled into shape that made it seem like such a thing was almost unbelievable to come by. “You should enjoy it while you can.” Voice falling flat of truth, Estella knew by this time the halls would be filled with students and tourists. There was always questions to be answered after leaving this room, and more work to be explored and picked on. Maybe working through her lunch was just her own form of a break from it all.

“Are you sure you want to spend such precious free time in here with a woman who buries her nose in documents?” She nearly stumbled over the last couple of words with a laugh. “I can think of a thousand of other things to do.” Hazel eyes looked up to Levi, and she allowed a small grin to linger just for a few seconds. “--but i’m fine.” -she finally answered.

The Tallis witch wasn’t even sure where to start. He had just been so… restless the past few days. Elijah wasn’t sleeping well, nor was he in any good mood. It was hard to irritate him, but even he had his own pushing points. “Forget it,” he muttered, pressing his hand to his head tiredly. Someone else then; it seemed like she wasn’t sure how to help him, and there was no point getting angry at someone who didn’t know in the first place. “I’m fine. I’m just tired,” he remarked stiffly.

“I’m not anything near a sleep specialist, but I would think that sleep would be necessary to curing your tiredness.” A small grin dared to tug at the corner of her mouth. Her voice was dashed with hints of sarcasm, but the glint in her eyes kept it light within the vague conversation. Estella knew what it felt like to be tired. Not just worn from the day, but tired- physically, mentally, entirely. It all made some part of her chest feel for the man, nothing in this shop would certainly help, caffeine only went so far. “It wasn’t that I didn’t want to help you,” Estella furthered, she may as well, since her coffee order was still being processed. Shoulders dropped, “I just was zoning out, I didn’t hear you...spacey at times when I don’t fill my coffee addiction...I can’t keep up with the pace of the city.” The witch tried to spill a sincerity from her lips.
