The Science of Sneaking | Andrew+Esther
It didn’t take him very long to finish up. Ten minutes went by and he had already synthesized a few vials. Putting them away in a suitcase-like box, he locked them up and took it out of the room with him. Sliding his mask off, Andy took a deep breath. “Ugh— I always feel like I have to breathe carefully in there. I guess it’s the germaphobe in me.” He chuckled, setting the case on a near table to allow himself to slide out of his protective suit.Â
After hanging the mask and suit back up, he walked over to the printer where she stood. “So… did you get everything?” He said, placing a hand over her shoulder gently. “Some of this equipment isn’t very… well— up to date. The district really should give more assets to the hospital.” He shrugged. “Then again I think a lot of it goes to the schools. Equally as important.” It was then that Andy was incredibly glad he was not a politician or anywhere near the city council. “What a headache.” Again, a soft chuckle escaped his lips. “You want to carry the case? B-Be extra careful with it. I’ll take the papers. You can put the case back into the storage room— should be called a freezer considering it’s always chilly in there.” By chilly, he meant 15 degrees. Being from Chicago, he wasn’t much bothered by it.Â
"Lead the way, Doctor." He then pointed to a door for her to go through after exchanging the case for the printed papers she’d collected.
The ten minutes that had gone by felt incredibly short, and once Andy made his way back inside, the witch grinned at him and picked up the papers that had finished printing off. Immediately she handed the stack to him, and excitedly took the case, which appeared to have some valuable samples within it. She held it tightly to her chest, in fear she might drop it, and once he gave the signal Esther made her way through the door. "So what exactly are these all for again? They seem really important." Her footsteps echoed in the empty halls, reminding her that it was just the two of them. The idea of being at such a facility should have fascinated her, but in truth she was more interested in hearing Andy talk more about his job.
As they reached a hallway that lead to the storage room, Esther waited for Andy to catch up before making her way over. "I miss the cold weather, the winters in Oregon are the best. Hey! Maybe we should camp out in there." A small laugh escaped her lips, though in truth she knew anywhere chilly she would find more comfortable than the average temperature in New Orleans.
