Esther’s Past;
There was once a goddess named Eris, the goddess of discord and chaos, but many knew her as The Lady of Strife. She rides along a sea of dead bodies during the bloody wars and had a hand in causing the Trojan War. Never would she pick a side; she’d only ever bask in the battle cries of dying men. She’d plant seeds of hatred in lovers’ hearts and shower a town of luck with destruction. Everywhere she went there was bound to be a storm brewing. It was true that Eris was a goddess, whose power and anger you’d never want to experience first-hand, but to those in Mount Olympus, she was dubbed down as a mere minor. A simple guest. She never really had a true place among the ‘higher’ gods. Knowing this, Eris became insane with jealousy, the need to become important shattered every other thought in her body. She yearned for significance; so she grabbed at it every chance she got. But, she was getting careless, and the more she tried to climb to the top, the more insanity took hold of her.
As Eris actions got more and more reckless, the other gods and goddesses began to get weary. They were afraid of what was becoming of her. The high level of disruption down on Earth was noticeable to the Olympians and it was much more than the normal commotion—— meaning only one thing; Eris was getting out of hand, and someone had to stop her. She was brought, more so dragged, back into Olympus to face a court of all 12 of the deities. They were worried of what was to happen if they let the goddess continue her ways. Their verdict: banishment. Stripped of her powers, godly form, of everything that meant something to her; Eris was exiled. The Lady of Strife and the goddess of discord was no more, she was human. A weak, easy-to-kill, human. But, Eris’ story was not over. Once she fell from the heavens and landed back into the real world, her real story began.
Just outside the coast of Louisiana, a young man was walking along the beach with a glazed donut in his hand. He stared up at the night sky and watched as a shooting star moved along the blue. His name was Joshua, and Joshua was just in the middle of making a wish until he realized that the star wasn’t a star at all. It was a person, and they were plummeting head first in his direction. Most people would have screamed if they saw a naked woman falling from the sky at an incredibly life-threatening pace, but this particular man took off his jacket, put down his donut, and held his arms wide open. The girl was unconscious when she collapsed in his hold, sending them both down into the sand. Joshua picked her up, wrapped her snugly in his jacket, and drove them both back to his apartment. It may have seemed a bit weird for a stranger to take home a naked woman who fell from the sky, but to him, it was a normal thing. After all, his hometown was Barton Hollow, a place filled with things that were much more different than the usual.
The former goddess woke up days later in an unfamiliar bed with absolutely no recollection of who she was. She was naked, wrapped in a jacket, and scared. Joshua tried to ask her questions referring to who she was, but all of her replies consisted of “I don’t know”. She didn’t even know her name, so she was given one. Joshua called her Esther Maris. Esther meaning star and Maris meaning sea; a shooting star landing by the sea. From then on, Joshua let the girl move in with him. For a few weeks he became her mentor throughout this foreign world. He held her hand when she became afraid and even read her stories at night when she was having one of her visions. She was like a naive, little girl and he was her savior. But, as those weeks turned into months and those months turned into two years, Esther and Joshua were completely and utterly in love. They were engaged by the time Joshua took them to where he was born; Barton Hollow. He wanted to introduce her to his parents and get married there. Esther was very cautious when they entered the well-known area. Something about Barton Hollow drew her in from the start, and not knowing why created a sense of fright inside the pit of her stomach.
Once they settled down, Esther’s nightmares got worse. In fact, they became more than just nightmares. They became more frequent, coming to her not only at night, but at random times. Sometimes she’d doze off when she’s driving and got a vision of her standing high up in a golden chariot. She’s smiling; a smile of malice, one of hate and she’s looking down upon a bloody battlefield where men are fighting to death. The color red everywhere, staining the grass, and spurting in the air. At other times, when she’s having a conversation with someone, she’s suddenly seeing herself in a lavish dress; laughing joyfully with a crowd of beautiful people around her, a wine glass in her hand and an abundance of food on the table. Ever since she entered Barton Hollow, Esther has gotten more and more worried about her visions. Her fiance looks at her differently now. He isn’t curious anymore; he’s afraid. He thinks she’s going crazy, along with the rest of Louisiana’s population. But, that wasn’t the only thing going wrong, her fiance began to act strange, very strange. Joshua was always a very kind and understanding man, but as her visions got worse, so did his actions. His hostile side came out more often and a simple mistake could easily set him off. It was very unusual because Joshua was almost always calm.
When Joshua attempted to check her into a mental facility without asking, Esther became enraged. They got into a huge argument that caused one argument to turn into two, then three, then four, and the numbers just kept piling on top of each other with each passing day. Once neither of them could take another word, Joshua decided to leave. Esther woke up one morning with a post it note stuck on the fridge. It had written on it, “Sorry.”. She was heartbroken, but she was also angry. This anger spread throughout her whole body and eventually it took over. She burned every picture of him, threw her ring in the lake, and moved out of their house. She quit her job at Piggly Wiggly and joined the showgirl business. But, this fury didn’t just change her, it changed everything around her too. The angrier she got, the more chaos there was. She never noticed this, of course, but the destruction just kept getting worse. The flashes she keeps having aren’t making her life any better either. They just keep reminding her that she’s just another crazy, psychotic woman who lost her fiance due to their never-ending cycle of wrath. And she loathes it.
Currently in Barton Hollow;
When the love of your life leaves you forever with a sticky note as their only farewell, most woman would crumble to the floor and live the rest of their life weeping. This certainly was not the case when it came to Esther Maris. She tried to make the best of her newly single status. She got rid of everything that stunk of Joshua and when she was done, it was if there wasn’t a trace of him ever being there. Esther gladly moved out of her home and into The Sea Breeze Condos, wanting a fresh start. She joined the showgirl business at Red Light Burlesque and quite frankly, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to her since her abrupt breakup. All the dancing and singing and just being undoubtedly free creates a thrill that waltz infinitely in her bloodstream. Whenever she was onstage, the whole world would go away. It was just her and her girls performing for the applauding crowd in the front. Not once has she had one of her flashes during a performance and she knows that it’ll never happen because she’s too busy having the best time of her life to get sucked into that dream world of hers.
But, when the lights are off and she’s not staring back at a smiling crowd, all hell breaks loose. Esther is a whole ‘nother person behind closed doors. Complaints from her neighbors spread through the building like a forest fire because at some of the most random moments, they can hear screams from her condo. They say that she’s screaming about war, about death, about destruction. So much chaos, she wails. So much pain, she moans. They’re hurting because of me, she cries. But everyone thinks she’s just crazy. And whenever she dives into that state of mind, Esther gets this feeling that they are somehow apart of her. That she’s seeing bits and pieces of her memories. It would explain everything, because the only memory she had of this world was waking up in a bed. But, at the same time, she just doesn’t understand. If that was really her in those ‘dreams’, how could she have been so cruel? So horrible? She knows that she’s different; she can feel it inside of her. It’s ticking like a bomb, and when it finally goes off, only then will she be able to find outwhat she really is.
And yet she’s fearful of what she’ll find out. Because the way she is in her visions isn’t someone she would particularly like. In these ‘hallucinations’, she’s god-like. She towers over skyscrapers and moves like the mist; slowly but elegantly. She’s wearing this silky dress and it’s blood-red; she picked it out herself because it matched the color of a battlefield. Her voice booms louder than thunder but at the same time it’s like velvet. So bewitching, that’s what she was. Beautiful but dangerous. She would watch over the mortals with spite in her eyes and with a wave of her fingers, a sunny sky would quickly turn into one with lighting and heavy rain. Power radiates off her mere being and she’s being bowed to. Temples are being made in her name and lambs are sacrificed for her blessing. She was a goddess, and she was radiant. And then just like that, Esther awakens with a loud pounding on her door and a throb pulsing in her temple. She’d wake up just when she starts to piece things together.
The more she stays in Barton Hollow, the more worried she gets about the people around her. Esther has noticed how different others act when she’s around. It’s not the cliche situation where a guy acts nervous around a girl, but it’s the kind of situation where one moment an old lady is smiling at a group of kids on her lawn, then in a split second, she’s yelling at them to leave. It seems that wherever Esther Maris walks, a dark cloud is following behind, and it just keeps getting bigger. Esther tries not to make a big deal out of what’s happening, but she sure is curious. There was always some kind of bad luck going around whenever she’s around. But the collective violence isn’t the only thing scaring her, it’s what she feels. When someone’s fighting, a joyous smile wants to erupt on her face. Someone makes a huge scene over something so simple? She wants to laugh. Everyone acts so negative when she walks by. She can feel it in her bones. As much as she wants to deny it, the hostility and fatalistic energy make her feel alive. And it scares her to death.
Her Quirks;
Esther can only take so much until she finally explodes. She’s usually calm around certain situations, but once she gets angry, it can get very destructive.
Ever since Joshua left her, Esther has begun to smoke. It’s been quite a habit and it helps her take off the stressful thoughts; smoking is her mental painkiller.
Anywhere she goes, there always seems to be bad luck following behind. It isn’t always something drastic, it could be that a drink was spilled or a simple paper cut. But one things for sure; it never happens to her, it happens to those around her.
For some odd reason, Esther wakes up every morning to a batch of golden apples lying on her kitchen counter. There’s a note inside that says the same thing every day: “To the fairest of them all.” She’s hoping that it’s just a kind neighbor, but something inside tells her it’s not.
Esther has always had a fascination with books that end in tragedies, which is why she has a collection of all of Shakespeare’s work.
Violence tends to be one of Esther’s major downfalls, but lately, instead of taking out her anger on phone books, she’s focused on projecting a mental image of Joshua dying in the most terrible ways possible.
Esther is a very possessive person. Once something is hers, it’s hers. And she would fight to the death in order to keeps what’s hers.
Esther thinks that love is a big mistake; a mistake she should have kept her distance from.
Eating isn’t usually on Esther’s to do list. She rarely ever eats and if she does, it’s something light and never over 130 calories. Yes, she looks at the calories.
No matter what, Esther’s nails always have to be painted. Black or midnight blue, either way, it has to be colored.
Esther’s Connections;
Joshua Lux:
When Esther woke up in this strange new world with absolutely no memory of who she was or how she got there, a young man was sitting down at the foot of the bed, a smile on his face and a cup of coffee in his hand. He took care of her for months and soon, those months turned into years. They fell deeply in love with each other and spent every waking moment in the others arms. They were like the modern version of Romeo and Juliet—— minus the death part, of course. They got engaged before the Winter and decided to move into Joshua’s hometown, Barton Hollow. At first, all was well. Their love was still real and even though she didn’t get pregnant, they had a nursery going for the future. But as Esther’s visions got worse, so did their engagement. She got more violent and he grew weary of her actions. Arguments between the two magnified greatly. And soon, when enough was enough, the man she thought she once loved left. To this very day, Esther tries to tell herself that she hates him. But she knows that if she ever saw his face again, forgiveness wouldn’t be the first thing to be done, but it could easily seep into the picture.
Her face claim is Amanda Seyfried and she was written and is currently played by Diana in EST.

"Sorry, then."
"What’s your name?"
"No apology needed. My name is Esther Maris, you?"
Would you have preferred the alligator to stay? They fly by, high in the sky, and they do come back down to land. They are never this close unless they saw something they wanted, which is never a good thing if it is one of us.
"I'd rather them not fly at all. It's quite unusual for an alligator to have wings, you know. And if you say they landed only to capture one of us, then why leave me?"
"Oh yes, did it hurt you? I had to tackle someone last week to keep them from losing an arm or two."
"No, actually. They, uh, they flew away."
Aurora nodded at the girl. Obviously she didn’t want to talk about the subject anymore. Aurora could tell that much. She saw the blush when she asked what Esther did. Apparently that was another sensitive subject. Aurora wasn’t trying to push for information. The young fury listened to her talk. “That’s not a bad place to work. I work at Club D. Only as a coat check girl, but still.”
"It's not that it's a bad place to work." She paused. "But whenever I tell someone that I'm a showgirl, they always seem to make a joke out of it. I just didn't know if you'd do the same, which is why I was doubtful on telling you."
"You’ve got me really fucking confused…. Wait, from a plane? What in the fuck? What the fuck are you talking about? Jesus fucking christ. What is your name?"
"Let me give you the short version then. I have absolutely no memories of my earlier life. 2 years ago, I woke up with no idea who I was. My given name is Esther Maris."
What do you mean?
"You know, now that I think about it, I don't really want to talk about my visions. They make me feel insane and now you probably think I'm crazy."
He shrugged at her, although her laughter made him laugh slightly, even if he wasn’t sure what he had said was funny. But it was always nice to make someone laugh, right? It had to be a good sign. As she walked away, Theodore reached into his pocket for his phone, checking for any texts. He looked up just as she nudged at him, and he took a step forward, and coincidentally away from the water, before he smiled and said, holding out a hand, “Theo Karr. Esther….do you have a nickname? Like Essie?”
Esther couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at his question. She shook his hand for only a second and let her arm fall back to her side. "You might as well call me the Loch Ness Monster if you call me Essie." she joked, a chuckle coming out afterwards. Her eyes washed over his smile and she couldn't help but return the small gesture. "So tell me a little bit about yourself, Theo Karr. Your hobbies, favorite color, hell, maybe you could even tell me your blood type."
"…Rewind. What the fuck are you saying? Are you an alien or some shit?"
"I'm pretty sure that I'm not an alien or anything. It's actually pretty complicated. I'm twenty-four right now, and I remember absolutely nothing before that. I don't know how or why, but I fell from the sky; probably from a plane or something. The first memory I have was waking up in a bed, and at first, I didn't even know what a bed was. Like I said, it's complicated."
Aurora could tell that she wasn’t helping, so she just decided to stop talking. She knew that not everyone believed that the supernatural realm wasn’t real. Especially newcomers to the town, but she knew when she was upsetting someone. “I mean, believe what you want. That’s not something I can control, but I know it exists. Barton Hollow is filled with strange and unusual things. You’ll either believe, or assume you’re going crazy.” The young fury shrugged as she talked. “Who knows, maybe you’ll start believing,” she smiled lightly. “Oh, well I’m sorry. Hopefully Barton Hollow is someplace you enjoy. I’ve never lived anywhere else. I love it here though. So what do you do?”
Esther was quite appreciative when Aurora decided to drop the subject. She was also getting quite uncomfortable with talking about it. But as the subject turned into her job, blood started to rush into her cheeks. Being a showgirl wasn't an embarrassing thing, but once someone tried to ask her questions about it, she definitely didn't feel too open about discussion. "Well... You know the Red Light Burlesque? I work there." She bit down lightly on her lip. "As a showgirl."
Are they usually about beings like flying lizards? I don’t think there’s anything dangerous about them, unless you can’t really set reality and dreams apart. Might make you feel crazy.
"Oh no, definitely not flying lizards. It's mostly of me but in a different life; in a very different kind of life."
"And that’s the first time you’ve seen a flying alligator? What kind of fucking repellent are you wearing and where can I get some?"
"It's always been this way, actually. Everywhere I go there's just this big, dark cloud that keeps following behind and it just keeps spreading to those around me. I've noticed this ever since I landed on this Earth... Literally."
Theodore watched as one of the pebbles trickled into the lake, and sighed to himself. Looking at her for a while, he waited for her to reply, listening softly before he nodded. With a smile, a real smile, he answered softly, “Yeah, I completely get that.” He knew a little something about over sharing when he didn’t want to. Theodore rubbed at his neck again, before he added after a second, “There’s a lot of weird, scary things in town.”
Esther let out a loud laugh, her head thrown back and a large smile on her face. She wasn't laughing because she thought it was funny. She was laughing because of how accurate he was. "Yeah, you know what? You're right. Completely right." She ran a hand through her hair and started to walk again, glancing behind her once to nudge him over. "You know, I never got your name. I'm Esther."
It’s a weird town, who knows what’s in here. Oh, do they happen often?
"Often, yes. Dangerous, no. I think."
"Dragons exist. Everything in the supernatural realm exists. I don’t believe that physics have laws on dragons? Perhaps biology, but not physics. But science doesn’t know everything." The fury shrugged. She supposed that not everyone believed; sometimes i was difficult to believe."Well, Esther. It’s nice to meet you. I could actually. There are sirens and mermaids. There are also witches and fae. I’m a fury. Though I can’t really prove much." Aurora looked at the blonde girl in front of her. She didn’t know if Esther would believe, but she was speaking the truth. Barton Hollow was a strange place. "What brings you to Barton Hollow then dear?"
Esther was in complete and utter disbelief. She just couldn't believe it, any of it. Aurora couldn't be a fury. Furies were creatures of vengeance, they were a simple myth. "The supernatural realm doesn't exist. It's all made up, it has to be. None of this makes sense. I am human, everyone is h-human." By the time she said the last word, she was sputtering. She had always thought that because of her amnesia and incredibly real visions, she was the most insane person in this town. But now that she's been getting to know everyone, it seemed as though she wasn't the only one who belonged in the looney bin. "I came here with someone. But they're gone now. I've decided to stay here. Despite the unusual things happening, Barton Hollow seems to be the only place I feel I can really make a home for myself."
Indeed it did.
You get used to it after a while, but it’s still an interesting sight.
"Yes, well, I'm still not very used to it."
