You know what’s one thing that really bothers me?

The way people constantly devalue writing as labor.

I have a full-time, 40-hours-a-week day job. On top of that, I am a writer (which at least counts as a part-time job). Still on top of that, I live alone and have to take care of all my day-to-day living myself, while being disabled and a spoonie.

Yet somehow, people assume that I have tons of free time, even more time than someone who is abled and married without children.

It’s really exhausting.

Me: I’ve got a manuscript to edit/proofread and another story to outline. Self, we are NOT writing the queer selkie romance!

My brain: *writes several thousand words of the queer selkie romance*

Me: ...goddammit

The feels when you write a great first chapter for a story that you’re definitely NOT supposed to be working on...

So that first chapter is just going to remain an orphan. Sigh.

I’m currently forcing myself to take a break from writing in order to resolve some Real Life Problems, as well as give myself enough distance to effectively edit my latest novel...

...but being on mental break after having all cylinders firing for the past few months has been weird. Like my brain is too empty all of a sudden without a writing project to focus on.

…that I’d like to tackle, some day, when I’m not already drowning in 3 WIPs.

- YA heist fantasy — because I’m tired of people acting like a white woman has a monopoly on this genre

- soulmates romance — in a way that doesn’t make me, an ace + arospec-questioning person, flinch in pain

I didn’t think I would, but I’m starting to think about that soulmates idea more seriously as a way of exploring my aro-spec feelings...

Currently, I’m in that weird place where I have new things, but I can’t really talk about them because I’m waiting for certain things to happen??

Like I’m waiting to hear back regarding a submission (I’ve been legitimately waiting for months; supposedly I’m getting an answer “very soon,” although that was said last week), and I’m polishing a manuscript for beta readers and #DVpit in April. Meanwhile, I’ve banned myself from starting any new novels until after #DVpit/querying my current one.

And on the personal side of things, I’m *also* waiting on a job interview that I really need in order to get out of my current exploitative employment situation.

For the next book I’ll write (after I query the current one), I’m going to have to Fully Outline it instead of my usual method of half-outline, half-Make Up Everything As I Go Along.

What’s the opposite of writer’s block? Because I have that right now and it’s kind of never-ending agony.

Instead of being like:

Me: “I want to write!”

Brain: “lol nah”

For this entire month, I’ve been:

Me: “I’m tired and would like to take a break? Also, I have other important things to do?”

Brain: “NO YOU MUST WRITE RIGHT NOW”

Which is...awkward, considering most of this back and forth happens while I’m at my day job and need to, you know, work...

I think I’ve finally reached the point of zen at which I’m okay with the first draft of my fantasy WIP being garbage.

Now I just have to finish writing the thing...*sweats*
