Why her? How’d it end up like this? She just wanted to buy five purses, new designer boots, a few cute watches, a hat, and new pins. Not date the hall monitor.
“Let go, would ya? You’re not suppose to tug on someone’s ear so hard! I’ll go to class, just let go.”
“Good. I expect to see you there.”
“Oh, and are you free Saturday afternoon? That seems like a good time to me.”
Suddenly, Eiki stops. She doesn’t release Tenshi’s ear, but she stops, just for a moment, looking down at the celestial student.
“If you loved me, you’d go to class.” And she’s moving again, pulling Tenshi along with her.
How…How can this woman not get so flustered to let her go. And that look may have just made Tenshi near piss herself. “Aha…All right…Uh, o-only if you go to the mall with me…?”
“For something like that, I expect more than just going to class today. I want to see you actually trying in school, and if your grades suffer, I’ll make you suffer. Understand?” Tenshi, do you even realize what you got yourself into. Here’s a clue - you’re dating Eiki now.
Owowowowow! “H-Hey! Don’t pull so hard! You’re hurting me, Eiki! Don’t hurt the girl who loves you!” She’ll still try for it. There’s a sale with her name on it!
Suddenly, Eiki stops. She doesn’t release Tenshi’s ear, but she stops, just for a moment, looking down at the celestial student.

“Are you going to promise to go to class?” Eiki hasn’t slowed down, by the way.
“Only if you go on a date with me.” It huuuurts, but if she can fluster Eiki, maybe she’ll be let go.

“W-what?” Congratulations, Tenshi, you managed to fluster Eiki. Unfortunately...
“We are going to class right now!” And now she’s pulling even harder.
“Ack! Hey! That hurts! Lemme go or my daddy will end you!”
“Are you going to promise to go to class?” Eiki hasn’t slowed down, by the way.
“Make me.”

Even as a hall monitor, Eiki is always on the lookout for sin.
"And you’re lying to yourself if you think that way." Yuuka, don’t argue with the Yama. "And what pray tell makes you think you need to keep track of us youkai? Honestly, I’ve been taking delightful strolls outside all the time~! Or did you forget I always go where the flowers are blooming."
"It might be better phrased as 'you always go wherever you can annoy me the most'. Is there really any reason you're here, other than to bother me?" Eiki wasn't having any of this shit, not today. "Because unlike you, I actually have business here. Important business, nothing like relaxing on a beach."
Parsee Suffers
Parsee gave a small sigh of relief, ears drooping slightly as she visibly relaxed. Eiki was erring on the side of caution. Good. She was not looking forward to creating a ruckus. She’d rather just stay on the bridge- it may not be old, but it’s sheer span put her at ease. Didn’t seem like Eiki shared the sentiment, though.
"He pretty much is." Yes, she just said he. Getting involved with incidents wasn’t only a woman’s interest in this world. Males were just as involved, if not more.
A slight mrr is given at the thought of having to approach. Didn’t she just want to come out here to inspect the rift? Getting involved in the local affairs was not something any Hashihime was fond of.
Delivering a message could be done, hopefully without a fight. Hopefully. But….. Did she hear that right? Eiki just tell Parsee to lie? The great Yama of Paradise, judger of right and wrong, with the express punishment of losing your tongue for telling a lie…. just told her to do something expressly which could come to bite her back in the long run.
"I can keep what I am under wraps, but if I an inquire… Just why am I to lie about what I am? And what exactly should I tell them? Where would you like them to meet you?”
Poor, poor Parsee. She just doesn’t get a break, does she?
"He..." Well, that was certainly interesting. Eiki was used to females solving incidents, but now that she considered it, that didn't quite have to be the case. Yes, she'd definitely have to meet this man. In fact, they all sounded incredibly interesting, and dangerous in the right hands. The Yama of the region had to know about this, right? Why hadn't he ever reported it? Was he that lazy?
"If you can keep what you are under wraps without lying, that would be infinitely preferable," Eiki clarified, seeing Parsee's confusion. She couldn't just let the poor girl stay confused, after all. "In this case, I am giving you permission to lie. Use it only as a last resort, if it seems like you absolutely must to avoid conflict. Does that make sense?"
Then Eiki simply had to answer the rest of Parsee's questions. "We may as well be honest with what I am. It will surprise them, I'm sure, but we need to keep things at least mostly clear from the start. Tell them that I am a Yama, letting them know what that is if you must, and seek out a meeting so I can find out more about their supernatural abilities. As for where... here sounds like a good idea, does it not? A bridge in Jump City is a nice neutral point, and both you and I will retain plenty of our power here." Eiki's smiling now, reaching out to pat Parsee on the head. She's done better than expected, after all. "Does that all make sense?"
"Supposed to stay here, supposed to go there. Do this, do that. Really now, spontaneity is the spice of life. Didn’t you know that?"
"Spontaneity is not a virtue, Kazami Yuuka, and there is no reason to pretend like it is! Honestly, I have a hard enough time keeping track of all you youkai when you're all in one place, and going across the world just makes you harder to keep track of. Why are you here anyway?"
Parsee Suffers
"Yes."
Parsee gave an affirmative nod. That it was, those who resided within the structure protected the town. That’s what she had come to understand, and on occasion witness. Not that she got involved, much less even got near them. Hunters were bad news, and she wasn’t good at direct confrontations. Her business stayed her own, as far as she was concerned.
…. which is also the reason Parsee was now giving Eiki a look of absolute mortification, as if she’d grown a third head and ordered her to submit to one of Hell’s traditional punishments. Them? Approach hunters?
She knew there was a degree of lunacy involved in the supernatural, but had Eiki gone insane?
Surely this was some sort of punishment.
"I’ve only kept mild tabs on them, I’m not willing to risk my life for the sake of curiosity. But what I do know is that they’re teenagers primarily, no-one over twenty. One normal human with special training, and four powered. One is a human merged with the technology they use in this day and age, another an alien, and there’s also a shapeshifter and one a half-demon of the western variety. They tend to shoot first and ask questions later."
Perhaps Eiki was a little bit crazy. Or perhaps she just believed herself invincible. Which to be honest, she was, so perhaps that explained things. Hunters to her were not so bad, not being a youkai as Parsee was. Indeed, Eiki assumed they'd be the most amicable of the lot.
"Shooting first and asking questions later tends to be a characteristic of these Americans, from what I've heard," Eiki let out a sigh, continuing to watch Titan Tower from her place atop the bridge. So large a bridge... thank goodness Gensokyo didn't have gaps like this.
"A normal human with special training is no real surprise. Perhaps she's this place's version of Reimu. A human merged with modern technology is certainly interesting but likely nothing supernatural, and an alien is also likely not a problem. But the shapeshifter and the half-demon, they are unusual. The half-demon in particular... still, if they are so aggressive, we need to be cautious. Perhaps it would be best to start with a simple message, that we wish to talk and we have no hostile intent."
Eiki's decision had been made now. She wasn't backing down from it. "Parsee, I want you to be the one to deliver the message, by midday today. Putting it down in writing would require a lot of excess bureaucracy, and going myself would make our position appear weak. You know what we want to know, and I trust you to represent me to these people. Just don't reveal yourself as a hashihime, understand? Lie if you have to." Poor Parsee. Poor, poor Parsee.
"I never imagined I’d see you here of all places. Come to enjoy the sun and surf too, Miss Judge~?"
Eiki's not actually sure what to say here. "...Kazami Yuuka? In California? You do realize you're supposed to stay in or near Gensokyo, yes?"
Hashihime are pitied creatures. They’re very good at looking like victims of the aftermath, even when they caused the commotion. Usually because that happens to be the case. This is no different.
Hell, she wasn’t even trying to cause trouble this time.
Parsee gave a slight nod, warping them both in a teleport, solidifying their location at the bridging rift in question back on the Outside. Ears twitch slightly, perking curiously at the Yama’s response. Was being out here as much of an adventure for her, as it was for Parsee? It appeared to be so, but the Yama was again correct. There was work to be done.
"She’s a criminal, she doesn’t have a permanent location from what I can tell. The others who have powers are located in various places, the city’s practically infected with them. They’re like rats. … And there are also some who act as hunters who reside in the giant ‘T’ structure out in the bay, and keep the troublemakers in check. I’ve only talked to to the aformentioned Jinx in-depth, though."
"Is that so?" Fortunately, the Titan Tower was visible from where they were, though Eiki had to walk across the support to get a good clear view of it. That would likely be the centerpiece of all the actions there, she thought. Any place with hunters would likely have powers themselves, to help deal with the magically attuned members of this place. And more than that...
"That 'T' structure is where we're going to have to go first, then, Parsee," Eiki finally admitted after a few moments of silence. "If what you say is true, then not only are they going to have powers themselves that we can examine, but they will likely be keeping tabs on others as well. If we can secure their conversation, I can perhaps find the information I need... information that the Ten Kings are going to want. Do you know anything more about the hunters in particular? Anything we can use?"
I heard the story of you being a stone before you were born. how people prayed to you for years before you hatches from the rock that you were embed in. were you not lonely in there all those great wild years. long long time ago. when you were stuck in there? i wish i could have been there back then. i would have prayed to you every day. and gave you a kiss on your forehead and maybe stayed there for a while. so you didn't feel alone
"I'm not quite sure you understood the entire point of that, to be honest. As a jizō statue, I didn't actually have consciousness. I was a thing that people prayed to, and my promotion to a Yama was quite the promotion indeed. But the Ten Heavenly Kings placed their trust in me, and I was given consciousness. I thank you for your kind words, though. They are well spoken, even if mistaken."
Erk.
"S-Sorry, Lady Shiki. I thought it wasn’t anything more than my own business. Didn’t realize it’d be a matter which you’d get involved in."
The Hashihime’s ears have flicked back at being scolded, lowering. She wasn’t sorry for not reporting- infact, she hardly understood the importance. Magic persisted out there still, yes. It was just virtually extinct. Wouldn’t this be more like discovering a new breed of magic, or an anomoly in it?
Actually, putting it that way, that is fairly important for her superior to know. She just didn’t think her boss would come out in person to take care of the matter.
"Of course. If you insist, that is."
And here we go, another trip back to Jump City it seems, which she gets absolutely no say in. First the bridge goes missing, now that it’s been found it’s fiasco is still causing trouble with her higher-ups. Lovely.
The princess is taking Eiki’s hand, already focusing on getting the bridge’s pathway to lead to it’s entrance back to Jump. No dawdling when her boss is around.
"I'm afraid I must insist. It's not something I'd like to do, but the higher-ups are going to want to know, and I can't go to them without incomplete information."
Eiki didn't want to do this, but she didn't have a choice. At least Parsee would be spared any further admonishment, thanks to looking like that. Even Eiki had a bit of a hard time lecturing her when Parsee pulled off such an unintentionally pathetic look.
"I'm ready when you are."
A few seconds later, the two of them were standing together on the very top of one of the supports holding up the arches on a bridge in distant Jump City. Thankfully it was night, or people might actually notice them, given that Eiki was already walking up to the nearest corner to catch the view. "I've never been here, you know," Eiki told Parsee, gazing out into the water. "It's actually quite nice... but unfortunately, we have work to do. Just where is this Jinx? And you said there are others like her, do you know where they are as well?"
"Mm? Well, I met an oddity out there. A witch, she called herself. Not a real one, or someone like that lying black-white. This girl’s like Hina, manipulates bad luck. I’ve been…."
Harrassing the girl? … That was really the best way to put it, even if it was the best way she could express her curiosity to a human. Couldn’t lie to her boss, though.
"Watching her. She’s pretty much a bridge herself. Most humans can’t use magic, but there are… a good amount of them out of the ordinary. Meta-humans, I think they’re called. They’ve pretty much replaced youkai and youkai hunters out there. Jinx though, she’s different. She’s still human, but it’s our type of magic… as I found out the hard way, since it affects me. She didn’t believe me to be real when she first saw me. Thinks I’m a demon for some reason, to boot.”
She could see Eiki’s heart sink, and quite honestly was alarmed to see it. Why? Was it a bad thing? It’s not like it was going to threaten the afterlife or gensokyo.
"I can show you the rift, if you need to see it for yourself."
Oh, no. It wasn't anything so serious as that, Parsee. It was just Eiki having to hold a conference with not only her coworkers across the sea, barbaric as they were, but with the Ten Heavenly Kings themselves, who were always a pain to work with. But that wouldn't be so important now. And Eiki did need more information.
"The girl is named Jinx, then? And she manipulates luck... that's very interesting, actually. I'm suddenly rather glad that you found this out... but you should have reported it to me yourself, Parsee." Ah, here comes the admonishment. "Had you done that, I could already have everything figured out and hopefully have adjusted for this. The Kings will not like hearing that magic still persists there, of all places." As for why, well, the Yama couldn't say. But she'd still have to be the one to report them. Eiki stood up now, holding out a hand for Parsee to get some help up.
"I will need to see the rift, yes. Both sides of it, I think. Why don't we go on a little trip, then, Parsee?"
