Was it because of Ethan? Danny honestly didn’t know the answer to that. He had been happy, or at least he thought he had been. But when he truly thought back on it a part of him had always felt like something was missing. And he hadn’t felt that way when he was with Ethan. He’d always felt complete, like Ethan was actually the finishing piece to his puzzle. But with Josh…there was just always that open spot waiting to be filled.

“I don’t – I don’t know to tell you the truth. It just happened.” He moved a hand to scratch at the back of his neck and darted his eyes away from Ethan. He knew that Ethan could tell if he was lying or not. But to the best of his knowledge he wasn’t, or at least not that he knew of right now. He didn’t know what had happened but he did know that he somehow felt better about the entire situation. “Can I uh – can I come in? I thought maybe we could talk. You can say no if you don’t want to though. I’ll understand.”

Ethan looked at Danny, watched him quietly and kept his ear trained on the familiar heartbeat that made his chest ache. He’d missed Danny’s heartbeat, the soft thrum of it and he shifted, chewing at his bottom lip. It was like coming home, but not entirely, Aiden was still dead and buried and he didn’t have Danny’s heart like he used to.

“I see, well...I’m sorry to hear that still.” Ethan sympathized with Danny, breaking up with someone sucked. The steady heartbeat in Danny’s chest drew him in and he breathed out slowly. “Yeah, yeah come on in. Sorry, I didn’t expect company.” Ethan stepped back, letting Danny into the small loft he’d been renting. It was a tiny place, open with very few decorations, but it was his. A motorcycle engine sat on newspaper on the table and he closed the door behind Danny. “Do you. Want something to drink?”

“I know what it MEANS, I’m in his pack after all. But you could have MADE one, if you wanted. Were you hoping to join ours?”

“Obviously you don’t. This is Scott’s territory, I can’t just make a pack here. That so goes against the rules of hierarchy. Yeah, I was kind of hoping maybe.”

Satomi looked over the young beta wolf. She knew his name was Ethan, and that he had been through quite a lot in the last few months. Losing a twin brother couldn’t be easy.

“Hello Ethan.” She stated simply, giving him a small smile.

Ethan stopped in his tracks, the scent of another wolf, and an Alpha at that, heavy in the air. He turned, defensive, his claws out as he stared at the woman before him.

“How do you know my name?” he asked, cautiously.

“Because this is Scott’s territory and Alpha or not, Scott outranks me. He’s a true Alpha, do you know what that means?”

Of course Ethan had to mention how much safer it was to stay near a strong Pack. Aiden didn’t have it in him to hurt his twin; even by simply putting him somewhere unsafe. He couldn’t lose his twin. “Fine, we’ll stay. But only because it’s safer.”

Ethan looked at his brother, a part of him wanted to stay because Danny was here, but the rest of him liked having peace. He liked the safety of being in Beacon Hills. He and his brother didn’t have to run being here, they could live relatively normal lives. “Thanks Aiden.”

“They won’t accept us.” Aiden’s words were nearly growled, but the annoance wasn’t aimed at his twin. Instead it was simply over the knowledge that because of him, they were never going to have a place with Scott’s pack.

“I know.” Ethan grimaced, casting a glance over his brother’s shoulder. “But it can’t hurt to hang out here. I mean...it’s probably safer than being on our own Aiden. At least here we have a strong Alpha nearby. Our lives are in significantly less danger hanging out here.”
