Is it possible to die of happiness? A heroine’s sister from one of Ethan’s most beloved novels asked that question of the heroine. Until now, Ethan would have bet against it, finding their romantic antics sweet but impractical. This morning, he wasn’t so sure. His heart was fit to burst with the love and happiness Hollie brought inti his life.
His foggy, dreamless sleep, born of sheer exhaustion, slowly faded away to reveal a truly breathtaking scene. Feminine-colored cloth danced in the slight breeze from the cracked windows. Soft light filtered through the curtains, making the morning light more friendly and less harsh. Gentle fingers caressed his head, luring him to wakefulness. Then the touching ceased, and his mind fumbled, trying to make sense of it. The messy brown hair and big brown eyes looking down at him as he fully blinked his eyes open were more beautiful than any dolled-up portrait ever could be.
He sighed as he pulled himself upright, sitting up beside her and kissing his Hollie on her nose. “Good morning, my dear.” Then he placed a light lingering kiss to her lips. “I do hope this is not a dream because I’m pretty sure this is what my mind would conjure up as heaven.”
He winked at Hollie as he stretched. “So, what shall we do today?”
Hollie smiled shyly as he kissed her nose and tied the sash in front of her robe. “If this was heaven, wouldn’t that mean you were dead?” She teased softly, tracing the stubble along his jaw.
Resisting the urge to curl back up in bed with him, she stood and backed away towards the door. “I suspect we ought to put rights to the house before Louise returns and tans both our hides.”
Of course, there was something else that they needed to discuss, but before he could read her thoughts on her face, she’d slipped from the room and into the adjoining bathroom.
The truth was, Hollie was only certain of one thing - wherever she went, she wanted to be by Ethan’s side. However, the thought of returning to Montford - not to her friends, but the place and strangers - filled her with a sense of dread. It was still too fresh, too soon. She knew that returning now would simply draw the wild eye of the press, and the last thing she wanted was attention. But how could she ask Ethan to leave his practice, his home? It was not something that seemed a simple fix to her.
So, instead of focusing on that. Hollie turned on the bath, disrobed and dropped the fabric in the open door before poking her head innocently around the corner. “Join me?”
Mornings had always been a thing of regiment in Ethan’s life. The army instilled that in him, and Ethan had continued it after the war in his personal life. He had woken each morning to an alarm, eaten a well-balanced breakfast, completed a cycle of his work out, showered, dressed and headed to work. He had a feeling life was about to get much more interesting and a lot less scheduled.
Her light touches sent pleasant shivers down his back. Then she mentioned cleaning up after their path of destruction from the night before. He smirked at the flash of heated memories from those moments. He was pulled from that reverie by his lovely seductress. Join me?
Ethan’s whole body was immediately alert. He stood and walked straight to the bathroom. Leaning on the door frame in just his boxers, he crossed his arms over his chest and watched Hollie test the water temperature. He couldn’t help stare. He knew her scars were there, but he didn’t gawk. They meant strength to him. They meant that his Hollie was a fighter and alive and here with him now. Here where he would appreciate her curvy hips and her perfectly pert rump. Without even realizing he was doing it, he leaned forward and tapped her rump playfully. Mesmerizing by the slight jiggle, he unknowingly grinned his goofy smile.

Hollie woke up to a smothering heat, only slightly out of season this early in the fall. The added weight around her waist and the warm, even breath on her neck was what brought everything back into sharp reality.
Ethan and Hollie had celebrated their reunion in the most satisfying way they knew how, in a number of places that he’d ticked off as ‘to clean before morning’. Any honest discussion, aside from their proclamations in the Orchard, had yet to happen, and she couldn’t help but to laugh at the strange twists her life kept taking.
If it hadn’t been for the Slasher, if it hadn’t been for the torment at his hands and the muddled mess he’d made of her mind, she and Ethan might have remained happy strangers, left to nothing but a courteous last name basis, mere passerbies at the bank. It was morbid humor for so early in the morning, but it was his fault that she was so exhausted, so she didn’t take it to heart.
Her subdued laughter caused her to shake slightly and the burly doctor that was wrapped around her shifted and rumbled lightly in his sleep. As she ran a hand through his hair, gently untangling the short mess she’d made of it in their passion, the grandfather clock chimed downstairs.
Six in the morning, Louise wouldn’t be around till at least nine or ten - the woman was no fool and knew just what sort of trouble they’d get up to once left to their own devices. But there was a lot to do, they’d made a mess of the first floor, and part of the second…In fact, the only untouched places were probably the cellar and the attic.
Though that can be easily remedied. She thought, her fingers gently tracing over his broad shoulders. Rolling her eye at her wanton thoughts, she tried to untangle herself from him, wincing as she moved her legs and noticing the a small pattern of light bruising over her thighs. Leave it to her to roll them right off three different areas last night.
Chuckling softly, she sat up and reached for her robe near the bed, wincing as Ethan rolled over and let out a sigh.

Love Never Fails
By: Brandon Heath
Love is not proud / Love does not boast / Love after all / Matters the most
Love does not run / Love does not hide / Love does not keep / Locked inside
Love is the river that flows through / Love never fails you
Love will sustain / Love will provide / Love will not cease / At the end of time
Love will protect / Love always hopes / Love still believes / When you don't
Love is the arms that are holding you / Love never fails you
When my heart won't make a sound / When I can't turn back around / When the sky is falling down / Nothing is greater than this / Greater than this
Love is right here / Love is alive / Love is the way / The truth the life
Love is the river than flows through / Love is the arms that are holding you / Love is the place you will fly to / Love never fails you

The shivers at his touch had turned into full blown trembling that wracked her frame relentlessly. There were no more walls between them now, no secrets or misunderstandings. There was nothing left to regret. As his burning touch reached her back she buried her face in the crook of his neck while his lips moved across her shoulder, her own pressing into the hollow at the base of his throat.
There had never been a man that looked at her the way Ethan did, there’d never been a man that had even remotely burrowed their way into her heart the way he had. So, sure, perhaps she was inexperienced in the ways of love and romance, but she was all too aware that what they had was the sort of thing that inspired novels.
How silly she’d been to doubt that this could be real.
A breathless sigh escaped her as his hands found their way to her breasts and she was momentarily overcome with the sensation, her nails digging into the fabric at the small of his back. As if suddenly realizing that he was far too clothed for her liking, she pulled back slightly, kissing him as her hands made greedily fast work of his shirt. There was a popping sound as a few of the buttons didn’t make it, but neither of them seemed to notice as she helped him struggle out of his shirt, neither of them breaking the kiss.
Her hands trailed across the hard muscle that covered his chest and across his abdomen. It was unfair, she thought in her frenzied mind, that such a fine creature was forced to wear so many clothes for so many hours a day.
With a renewed sense of confidence, her fingers dipped into the waistband of his trousers and she pulled back slightly, biting her lip as her hand wrapped lightly around him, stroking him slowly.
Hollie's responses to his touches were encouraging. As she first kissed at his throat, a shiver ran up his spine, and his pants became even more constricting. Her soft little lips were driving him mad.
Around the time he removed the clothing from the upper half of her body, Hollie did the same for him. He wasn't really aware of it leaving his body except when his hands had to leave her skin for his arms to escape the material. The sensation of her chest to his was almost enough for Ethan to lose it. She was so warm and soft and tender, pressed to him in a symbiotic need for physical contact.
Suddenly Ethan noticed that her hands were far lower than they had been. Before he could warn her of the edge of his limits, her petite fingers were wrapped around his penis. He inhaled sharply, willing himself not to lose his control. After a moment of being nearly frozen, he made a groaning, almost growling sound in his throat.
Now everything was too tight. He needed there to be nothing between him and his Hollie. Reaching around her arm so she wouldn't stop doing whatever she was doing that was making his breath quicken, Ethan unbutton and unfastened his pants. Pushing down enough on his wastebands, all of his lower half material fell to the floor around his feet. Thinking back, he was glad he had already removed his socks and shoes in the foyer earlier. Taking a step closer to Hollie, he was naked before her and ready for her to be the same.
Arms around her small frame, Ethan unbuttoned the few buttons at the side of her dress. Then he pulled the rest of the material over her head, breaking their kiss for the first time in a while. Looking at her, taking her all in, his eyes grew greedy with a desire much stronger than lust. Lifting her just a tad, Ethan pulled her pretty little undergarments off and set her right back on the counter.
He chuckled huskily. "We are so going to have to clean this kitchen before breakfast..." Skin against skin, he stood there holding her close and trying to wait for her instructions, despite the very real strain to his every muscle at fighting his desires. This was her night to call the shots.

Hollie let out a little squeal of surprise as he picked her up and she looked at him crossly though there was little real annoyance there. Living in the cozy confines of her house in Montford, she was rather used to Ethan moving around her, though he’d always been careful, making sure not to touch her. His familiarity now wasn’t nearly as unwelcome as it might have been a year ago. In fact, after everything that had been said and done, she craved his touch.
Eyeing him warily, she meant to respond but lost her train of thought as his lips pressed against hers. All other thought was impossible as her hands grasped his shirt, her senses overrun by Ethan. She shimmied forward slightly, her legs clutching him as she felt his hands travel along her back. She arched away from the touch slightly, her front pressing more tightly against him as his she groaned, a small, torn sound against lips. Anticipating his actions, she slipped her arms up and locked them around his neck, her fingers tangling into her hair. No, she could deal with the touch to her back, for him she would.
"No, it’s okay." She breathed against his lips as she felt him try and move his hands away from her back. Keeping one arm around his neck, she grabbed one of his hands, guiding it to her back once more and pressing it firmly down. A shudder rolled through her and her breath hitched as she ignored her body’s protest. No, not her body. Her body was healed. It was her mind that cringed away from the feeling.
"It’s okay," She whispered again. "Just touch me. Ethan, touch me.”
His delicate honeysuckle blossom arched away from his touch at first. He immediately wanted to accommodate her condition and prepared to move his hands elsewhere. Being used to adapting to her changing needs, Ethan would be fine with this limited touching, he would fine other areas to explore on her petite, curvy body.
No. The word stilled him in terrifying agony. Was she really stopping him from proving his feelings for her? Was this some further torture? Her next words threw him through a loop. She wanted him to touch her. She was overcoming her fears. His precious Hollie wanted his hands on her porcelain skin. The voice with which she commanded her man made his knees go a little weak, like sugarcane, all raw and sweet at the same time.
Ethan needed no further encouragement. As he originally promised, he would make her forget why she didn't want him to touch her in the beginning. She would crave his touch as he craved to touch her.
Planting lingering kisses along her neck, Ethan placed his hands on her nearly bare shoulders. With his thumbs, he pushed down the straps to her sundress, along her arms, revealing a lacy little number, and continued until her hands were free. He loved the feel of her fingers in his hair, how she tugged on it demanding-ly, and how she melted against him like ice cream dripping from his face and down his chest.
Starting at her sides, Ethan's hands moved like honey, slow and gentle, but firm against her skin, His hands crawled across her back slowly and purposefully but with a tender care. She was his Hollie. All of this sweet peachy flesh before him was his to taste and caress. His mouth moved down over her shoulder, nipping at her exposed collarbone. With her dress pooled around her waist, Ethan was fighting every urge to end this quickly. His body ached to be joined with hers, but this night was about her, and he would no rush things unless she wanted that.
Right now, she wanted him to touch her. His touch slid over her scars, but Ethan used the opportunity to brush her chest against his, hopefully putting her thoughts elsewhere. His kisses trailed to the top of the flesh exposed over her lovely bra. He laved at the skin there before unsnapping the contraption, pulling the material off her body, and covering both lovely breasts with his shaky hands. A groan echoed deep in his throat.
Her body made him forget that he had loose ends in Montford and that they had no plans for their future together yet. All he cared about was their present together. His mouth was back on hers in a fierce wave of passion. He was ill with desire, and she was his only curing drug.
Ghosts That We Knew || Hollan
Hollie’s hands slipped over his of their own accord and she smiled shyly up at him, blushing under his soft gaze and brazen complements. Of course, while she no longer believed herself to be a creature out of a horror novel in the looks department, she certainly didn’t feel like to most beautiful woman in the world. At least, not when she wasn’t encased in Ethan’s arms. He somehow managed to make her wonder if it was the rest of the world that was crazy and not herself.
Her breath caught slightly as his face drew nearer to hers, her eyes on his lips as he spoke. It helped keep her from blushing. A mere look from him and her face lit up like the fourth of July. His words made her sad though, because she realized he was right. No matter how much she wanted to believe him outright, there was still that doubt.
The kiss he left on her lips was far too short and she pouted slightly, craning her neck to look up at as her hands slipped up to hold his face.
"I missed you so much." She whispered, her voice full of emotion. "I’m actually sort of afraid that this is just a dream. I’ll wake up and Louise’ll be cookin’ breakfast and…you’ll still be up in Montford hatin’ me." She bit her lip, swallowing before she nodded. "But it’s okay. I’d rather have you for another minute than not at all, even if it is a dream.”
Hollie's concern cut into his heart. He could never hate her, but the fact that she thought he could nearly killed him on the spot. Surely she hadn't meant to insult him; she merely meant to share her doubt and happiness at his presence. Hollie must enjoy the thought of him if she dreamed of him or at least hoped of dreaming of him. The sadness in her voice convinced him that nothing he could say would change her mind. Words were wonderful and had their place, but they were not always the best remedy.
Hands at her hips, Ethan picked Hollie up and placed her on the counter in front of him. Standing between her legs, his legs pressed against the cabinets below her. His hands slid to her back, gently pulling her close chest-to-chest. "I'll prove this is no dream, that I drove all the way to Georgia to tell you I love you, and that I could never, ever hate you."
With that, he began kissing her. His mouth claimed hers, like a wedding vow, all-consuming and passionate but loving and gentle. Her fragile body pressed against his made Ethan's body go all hard and his heart go all soft. It was like being jello, both solid and wiggly at the same time. His hands traveled along her back. Though he knew her scars would still be there, he prayed that the cloth between them would prevent the intimate act from causing her distress, for his body would likely explode if she made him stop this time.

It felt so good to be back home, doing something so normal and unhurried, eating and laughing with the people she loved. That wasn’t to say that she didn’t miss her friends in Montford, but Montford was far from comforting. The people, the gossip, the constant trouble and the memories… She didn’t know if she went that she’d ever be able to feel at ease there. It left her feeling melancholy, but there was nothing to do about it now. Not yet, at least.
When the door behind her opened again, she shifted so that he’d be able to dispense the last of the dishes in the sink before trying to finish the task at hand. Of course, he had other plans.
With a giggle Hollie grinned, not relinquishing her grip on the dishes before she shook her head. Would there ever be a time that he couldn’t make her blush?
"You know, I can’t recall. I mean, I know you’ve called me cute." She admitted, placing the last of the dishes onto the drying rack before wiping off her hands and pretending to think. "But I mean, a puppy’s cute. Children are cute." She mused, turning in his arms and placing her hands on the countertop behind her as she looked coyly up at him. "So, I think you might have to remind me, cause now I’m makin’ a list in my head of all the women I know who are far prettier than me-” She teased relentlessly, not making the moment easy on him in the least.
Placing his hands on either side of her face, Ethan looked into her eyes with a tenderness he had never known before. "First, there are NO women prettier than you. You are Hollie, my Hollie. Your eyes reflect that sweet heart of yours, your face lights up the room, that hair of yours is positively hypnotic, and your body... it makes me weak in the knees. Hollie, there is no one in this world more beautiful than you, and I'm going to remind you every day, so you don't forget it."
He rested his forehead to hers, his mouth mere inches from hers. It took all of his willpower not to cave and let his body ravish hers. "Second, you are cute. Your chipper mood and petite frame are very adorable, but there is so much more to you than that. You are beautiful, inside AND out, and I seriously hope you believe me one of these days." He finally placed a light quick to her lips before looking down at her again and moving his hands from her face down her shoulders to her sides, pulling her close.
For one splendid moment, he contemplated never letting her go again. The idea of Hollie in his arms for eternity made him long commitment. This would have to do for now.
