“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Ethan stumbled to the floor, trying to gather all the papers he’d knocked out of the person’s hands when he’d turned a corner a bit too sharp. “I really need to start paying more attention when I’m walking.”

Joaquin was taken by surprise when he suddenly collided with another person, the papers falling to the floor more due to being startled than the force of running into the unfamiliar male. “ Hey, it’s no big deal, ” he said, crouching down to help gather the papers as well, not entirely sure whether or not it was all his or a combination of the two of their belongings. “ I wasn’t really paying attention either, it was a combined effort, ” he glanced up at the male, giving him a small, apologetic smile.

Ethan was glad to hear the other boy wasn’t upset by the accident. The last thing he needed was to be on someones bad side already. “Thanks, man, seriously.” After all the papers were picked up and sorted, he stood up. “Glad to know it wasn’t just me. I’m Ethan by the way. I’d shake your hand but wouldn’t want to risk dropping papers again.”

Moose was walking through the halls of Riverdale High, headed to lunch but then someone bumped into him. “Watch where you’re going, freak!” Moose spat.

Ethan was taken aback by the abrasive response he received from the taller boy. “Yeah you too, ass!”

Archie was walking quickly to his next class. He was sure he was going to be late, so he walked a little faster than usual. Just as he turned the corner, he practically collided with someone else. When he did so, he noticed that he’d knocked the person’s papers out of their hands. “Oh damn, I’m sorry…” Archie said quickly as he knelt down to help the other boy pick up the papers. “You probably should pay better attention next time, but it’s okay. It was kind of my fault too.” He mused.

Ethan nodded at what the boy said before letting out a brief chuckle. “Sorry, I’m just running late and don’t really know where I’m headed. Uh, I’m new here, so I’m a bit lost. I wonder if I could actually ask you for help?”

“It’s… it’s fine,” Olivia stammered, bending down to pick up the papers that had been knocked straight out of her hands. “Don’t worry about it. I should’ve been more careful, too. – but, uh, thank you – for helping me pick all of this up.”

Ethan let out a little laugh, mostly out of awkwardness as he handed her the papers. “Looks like we both need a lesson in paying attention then, huh? I’m Ethan by the way.”

plot point backstory. Ethan was born and raised in Southern Kentucky. He grew up in a very Conservative house and community. So when he came out at nine as transgender, his mother was really the only person who accepted him. His school and his own father refused to accept him as Ethan which resulted in them moving a multitude of times. Ethan’s never forgiven his father, although he has grown stronger because of the way he was treated.  They found themselves moving to Riverdale because of a doctor working at the hospital who excels in transgender medicine and science. They moved here in hopes of furthering Ethan’s medical transition.

plot point backstory. ethan came out when he was four years old as transgender. his parents were both really supportive at first until it came time to add medical intervention. once the topic of hormones came up, his mother left, not able to handle the stress of having a transgender son. ethan’s been on hormones since he was twelve. he had top surgery when he was fifteen and has lived as a male almost his whole life. he’s very open and honest about being transgender as well as he doesn’t hide that fact about himself. ethan believe’s that it’s something to celebrate.
