Is there a point to holding back? He may as well slander his teammates as much as he feels like. Kuroko can sympathize or not, it doesn't matter. "It's not complicated. They're self-centered." As is Mayuzumi, which is probably why they don't get along to some extent. "And childish. All they do is make noise and call on me when they feel like it, at their whims. Why would I go out of my way to be around any of them?"

Idly, Mayuzumi glances at his phone. Seems the weather isn't going to let up any time soon. There's only so much an umbrella can do when it's windy raining heavily. Today feels especially unlucky, even for him.

He sighs at Kuroko's words. Really, he shouldn't have even asked. It's not like he ever could have wound up at a place like Seirin. Like it or not, Mayuzumi still feels loyalty to Rakuzan. But would it have been too much to ask for, a normal team with friendly people? Not that he would have been noticed at all if it wasn't for Akashi. Maybe it is a bit complicated.

"I see... enjoy it while it lasts." Mayuzumi shrugs dispassionately. "The tricks you pulled on us won't work a second time. Next year, Rakuzan will definitely crush you." Without me. "I'm glad to be done with it all. All of them, more trouble than it was worth." It's only half true, but he doesn't want to think about the other half.

“Because you like playing basketball with them?” Kuroko didn't think too much about his answer, he just replied to the obvious rhetorical question.

Sure, Mayuzumi kept complaining about how annoying everything related to his team was, but at the same time he was proud of them. Otherwise, he wouldn't have threatened Seirin with losing the next time they played. Right there, just the two of them: a declaration of war in a broken elevator.

Enjoying it while it lasts... There was a moment of silence on his part. Of course, Kuroko knew that his time at Seirin was limited, but he had already felt what it was like when Teiko team collapsed. He had no intention of allowing a bittersweet goodbye to happen again. “I am aware. And we will not lose.” How? Surely they'll come up with something.

It was also true that he wasn't going to be there… “You can always repeat the year if you want to be there. We will beat you again.” And perhaps Kuroko sounded more confident than Mayuzumi would like to hear. The part about repeating the year was a joke, although he didn't know how good a student Mayuzumi really was.

Something was a little off about that statement of his, so Kuroko decided to ignore the part where he said he was glad it was over.

"I mean... eventually?" Mayuzumi shrugs. If he got stranded, he could get a hotel of some sort for the night. Another day of wandering around Tokyo wouldn't be so bad, and he could avoid his school for a little longer. "I'll get back one way or another." So he thinks. "Not really in any rush to see my teammates." They all want him to keep showing up to basketball club despite everything, and he refuses. Fuck that, really.

Admittedly, having a normal conversation with Kuroko isn't that bad. He doesn't give off pretentiousness like the other Miracles, at least. Mayuzumi's high school basketball career is over, so there's no reason to still cling to the results of the Winter Cup, other than pettiness. And while Mayuzumi can be very petty, it also doesn't seem entirely worth it to be angry all the time. More than anything, Mayuzumi doesn't want to waste his precious time with emotions that go nowhere, so he will try to be more polite... a little.

"I'm more of a cat person, but I don't mind dogs." Depends on the dog, really. The loud yappy ones can be a little irritating, but he already deals with one of those on his team on the regular (Hayama). "I guess it's nice that everyone likes him." Almost. "Rakuzan in general is more uptight. I don't think having a pet at practice would go over well." If anything, the team's pet is probably... no, he doesn't want to think about it. He scowls. "...Is everyone on your team friendly with one another?" No, he's not jealous, not even a little!

“I see…” Indiferent at first, but when his senior spoke gave the impression that he had everything under control to return home. At least until he mentioned that he didn't want to meet up with his teammates. Did he dislike meeting them so much that he had come all the way to Tokyo…? “It seems complicated.” And this was coming from someone who had had to deal with nothing less than a couple former members of generation of miracles.

Meanwhile, there were no signs of movement around the elevator. No voices, no noises, nothing. It had only been out of service for a short time, so it was still too early to draw any conclusions. What could be heard, however, was the weather getting worse. Rain, perhaps?

"...You look like a cat person." He nodded, in agreement. If they were talking about appearances, Kuroko could perfectly imagine him reading with a cat on his lap. Stroking it from time to time without looking up from the book. Would he own a cat?

Kuroko could continue talking about pets / tell him more about Nigou / but the last question caught him off guard again. This senior sure liked to change the subject abruptly.

"Friendly..." Kuroko took his time to think. Team dynamics worked very well at Seirin, but the blows, scoldings from his senpais, his coach's terrifying training regimes… could they really be considered friendly? Definitely not. But the warm feeling of unity was definitely there. "Most of the time, yes. It's fun to be with them." Didn't think twice about his answer, but tried to not sound very deep either. Have you ever felt like you were being asked a trick question?

Well, it's not like Mayuzumi is going to reprimand Kuroko for being polite, especially not after the way his own teammates had treated him. He'll take some respect where he can get it... even if it's from Kuroko. "That's fine." At least he's not calling Mayuzumi by his first name like a certain first year (former) captain of his. (The nerve of that guy...)

"Huh? Right, I... just in case, I mean." Suddenly Mayuzumi feels a bit embarrassed for vocalizing that. Now Kuroko thinks he's anxious about the situation for some reason, while in reality he could be stuck here for an hour and he wouldn't really care as long as he had time to read. "Even if they forget we're both here, they're still going to fix it so other people can use it... so it doesn't matter." Perhaps Mayuzumi simply had the urge to assert himself despite the uselessness of doing so, just to pretend like he has some control over the situation, and by association his life. He's not going to admit that, though!

As long as Kuroko is here, there's no point in trying to relax. Just seeing his blank face puts him on edge. "...Who takes care of the dog when you're out and about?" There, see? Neutral question that can't be mistaken for caring about Kuroko.

“I guess they'll hurry up if you call the operator…” A thought aloud, which led him to another question Kuroko hadn't consider until then. “Do you have to go back to Kyoto, Mayuzumi-san?” Kuroko wasn't in any particular hurry; his house wasn't that far away, and he could get there in a couple of subway stops. But getting to Kyoto from Tokyo was another story.

Mayuzumi seemed to have reduced his level of hostility towards him, for now. He was even willing to engage in simple conversation with him, such as asking him about Nigou. Apparently, the puppy was the most popular member of the Seirin team... or his senior liked dogs.

“Nigou?” Well, he was his official owner, if you thought about it. “I usually take him with me most of the time, but today I left him behind because of the bad weather, so he's at home.” He was usually in the school gym area, but these days they were making a small exception. "Most of the team enjoy spending time with him, so taking care of him had never been a problem." Except for Kagami, clearly, but that's a battle still ongoing! "Do you happen to like dogs?"

Now Mayuzumi is realizing that his comeback wasn't very effective, but it's too late to take it back and say something smarter. "You can thank your former teammate for that," Mayuzumi grumbles. "Because of Akashi, I've been forced to perceive you all year." That, at least, was honest and not a sarcsatic remark. Unfortunately, it also makes him sound like he's obsessed with Kuroko. Whatever. He can think what he likes.

Despite his attempt to ignore Kuroko, he can't help but remember that the original, old model (ugh) of the Phantom Sixth Man (so corny) is surprisingly frail. Somewhere deep down, he finds himself wondering whether Kuroko will be okay if they're stuck here for a long period, which is stupid because there is no reason for him to care at all.

"...You don't have to call me senpai," Mayuzumi grumbles, peering over his book at Kuroko. "I don't go to your school." It's overly polite and respectful, which is irritating in its own right. "...If the elevator is stuck for a while, I'll get up and call the operator." Kuroko seems like the kind of person who would wait in silence to the point where he'd get locked in the building overnight. No sense of self-respect there whatsoever. Honestly it's kind of sad.

And yet you didn't realize I was here with you until the elevator stopped and we were alone. Luckily, Kuroko was good at reading the room and kept those words to himself because, indeed, it had sounded a little strange to know that Mayuzumi had been watching him closely while Kuroko didn't even know of his existence. Akashi-kun doing or not didn't change the fact, but oh well. They had already passed the stage of competing to see who was the best shadow, right?

At least his senior quickly gave him something else to focus on.

"But you are older than me" At Seirin, he already had a beloved senpai who reminded them from time to time of the importance of respecting their elders, it didn't matter the school they assisted to. If it was annoying for him then there was only one correct way. "Then, is Mayuzumi-san okay for you?" Look he remembers your name. The answer didn't really matter because he no longer had any other way to call his senior, so he had already decided that he could call him that.

Then he became proactive, right when Kuroko thought he didn't care about being stuck. "They had said they were working on fixing it." Okay, Mr. Obvious. "Doesn't that mean they know we are here?" Incredible deduction, but it was a good intention to go and try to calm his senior.

Now that his miserable time on Rakuzan's basketball team has come to an abrupt and merciful end, Mayuzumi Chihiro can do whatever he wants. That includes going to Tokyo whenever he feels like it to do some shopping and go to fan events and pop-up shops, ignoring the endless string of texts in the Rakuzan basketball club group chat from his kouhais who still constantly try to get his attention despite the way they treated him.

More than anything, he enjoys browsing through secondhand bookstores in Tokyo that may have different offerings than the options in Kyoto. One such place is his destination today, a bookstore tucked into the top floor of a giant mall.

Not wishing to climb eight flights of stairs, Mayuzumi steps into the elevator and leans against the back wall, idly scrolling through his phone (and still ignoring the group chat). The elevator rises several floors before stopping, and Mayuzumi doesn't even glance up, assuming that someone has gotten on the elevator. However, a few moments later a voice through a speaker apologizes for a technical difficulty, and Mayuzumi sighs, resigned to his fate of being stuck here while they fix the line. He has a couple books in his bag, so he can sit down and read since he's in here alone...

...or so he thought. His gaze flicks towards the opposite wall, and Mayuzumi has to hold back a confused noise when he sees that he is very much not alone, but instead in the presence of one very quiet Kuroko Tetsuya.

Had he gotten on the elevator alongside Kuroko and just not noticed? There's no point asking him how long he's been there, since he knows what the answer will be (I've been here the whole time). Mayuzumi scowls, wondering how the hell he had managed to run into Kuroko in the entire massive city of Tokyo. It's like the gods are up there somewhere mocking him. My luck is terrible.

"I'm going to read, so don't bother me." There's no reason to say hello or spout fake pleasantries, and certainly no reason to lie and say it's nice to see you. The existence of this insufferable first year is the reason the last year of his life in the basketball club has been hellish, and he's not about to acknowledge him as though they are friends. Perhaps it is their fate to cross paths, but it certainly isn't required that he engage with this fate. "Do me a favor and make yourself invisible... oh wait. You already are."

On that note, he takes out his book from his bag and faces away from Kuroko deliberately.

“…Good afternoon.”

The presence of his new misfortune companion might have been minimal, but Mayuzumi personally was quite... unforgettable. Kuroko had been staring at him for a while, but he was noticed only when their eyes met, apparently. In less than the blink of an eye, he realized that his presence was not welcome, but just in case his senior did not hesitate to express it in words. We were in a bad mood, huh?

Anyway, shouldn't they be at least a little concerned that the elevator stopped without any apparent explanation several floors up?

Without saying anything (not that he was given much space to speak), he quietly dropped down to sit on the floor and crossed his arms over his knees. It was hard to know how long they would be there, and his stamina wasn't exactly abundant enough to just stand there.

However, it was difficult to remain silent in the face of that last comment, which, rather than threatening, struck him as… comical. Was he trying to mess with him, or was it something else? “You seem quite aware of my presence for being already invisible in your eyes, senpai.”

At first, Kuroko genuinely thought that his captain had approached him because he had something to say (let him guess, another comment about his new relationship with Aomine). He started / Kuroko listening to him / as Hyuuga talked and talked… Kuroko could only... blink.

His senpai's speech was too intimate and private to be telling him without any kind of introduction. Were they even close enough to be listening to his... feelings? To start with?

"Hm... captain" Perhaps the fact that he hadn't looked at you even once meant something, Kuroko. It was time to deal with this situation in the least embarrassing way possible. For Hyuuga.

'When you're ready.' The words are sweet / the reassurance is gentle, like a soft breeze in the summer. At that, Kise reached out for the blanket to cover them both, cuddling like that. "Later is fine." If it were up to him, they would just drop the subject altogether, but that was calling for trouble in the future. Also, knowing how observant Kuroko was, surely this was far from satiating his curiosity about what had happened, since everything seemed to be going well.

At least it was, until... His brain suddenly decided it was the perfect time to remember some unpleasant things. Things that Kise was hoping would've been buried since long ago.

Earlier today.

Kise was practically vibrating when he first saw Kuroko at his door. "Make yourself comfortable, Kurokocchi!" He closed the front door and even gave Kuroko a quick tour of his house. Kise wasn’t the messiest person, but he had managed to tidy up his room a bit before his boyfriend arrived. "Do you want something to drink? Oh, we could also order delivery!" There was no plan at all; he was just happy to see Kuroko on a normal weekend. "For a moment I thought you would get lost." He had even offered to pick him up at the train station, though Kuroko said it was fine. "I was ready to put on my armor and go look for you, if you had taken longer~." A little tease.

They had been planning that weekend for a long time, so even Kuroko was a little excited to spend those two days with Kise. He had already studied the route so it was pretty easy to reach his place from the station. The day promised to be, at the very least, pleasant and entertaining. From behind the door emerged those bright eyes full of expectations and happiness.

"Thank you for having me." As always, Kise seemed to be in good spirit, a whirlwind of joy. He barely had time to put his things away in the space that had been prepared for him before seeing the inside of his house. More welcoming than expected. Because of his personality, he thought it would be a stylish house that might make him feel out of place, but that wasn't the case.

"I didn't get lost." Touched by his tease. "You were texting me the whole way anyway." There wasn't much difference either; it really felt as if Kuroko had gone the whole way with him. Nothing to complain about! "Uhm... neither of us eats much, so ordering delivery would be a waste..." Now he was thinking loud. "I'm curious to know what you usually eat at home, so I'll go for that."

Nothing but innocent thoughts at first.

He managed to catch the blush on Kuroko's face, which made his heart flutter at how cute he looked. How adorable... He wanted to kiss his boyfriend again, even if he still felt a bit stunned from earlier.

"It's okay." At least now, upon hearing that apology -even if it wasn’t really necessary-, Kise had managed to visibly relax. Until now, he hadn’t realized that his shoulders were too tense. "It’s not your fault, my reaction was... Exaggerated. You didn’t do anything wrong." Another awkward laugh, once again trying to brush it off as if it wasn’t a big deal.

Upon hearing the request, the model thought about it for a second and then nodded. "Yes-- Yes, I’d like that." He did want to cuddle, and the distance between them -unconsciously created by Kise- made him miss Kuroko, even though they were basically less than a meter away. Kise then opened his arms to receive the other, as a sign that he was willing to return to their initial position from earlier.

The TV was still playing in the background, but neither of them was paying attention to it anymore. Under normal circumstances, Kuroko wouldn't throw himself into his arms, and he didn't do so at that moment either. He moved over the sofa until fitting between his outstretched arms. Warm. And he didn't feel as tense as before, that was good.

"Exaggerated... I don't think so." It didn't seem like a calculated reaction that Kise could control and claim had gone too far. "We've never talked about doint it, so…" Another mistake, but enough with the apologies. He already understood that Kise didn't blame him, so moving on.

In the end, Kuroko also hugged him and leaned into him. "We can talk about it later, when you're ready." As a peace offering, he stretched up to give him a soft kiss on the cheek. His cheeks were warm too, so hopefully it wouldn't be difficult to go back to the way things were before.

"Hey y'all, be careful when playing!" Kise sighed when he heard a 'Sorry big brother Kise!' and the children left to keep on playing. How nice it must be, being young and innocent upon things like the ones he's discussing with the foreigner. Sometimes, Kise happened to miss his life before being given the title of protector, there were too many things he had to be responsible of now.

Amber eyes looked for Kuroko, and carefully analyzed his body language, he wasn't good at reading people but upon hearing the maids talk as well as how the latter was acting around children it was getting harder and harder to think that this stranger had any malicious intentions towards the Yae Village. "House of Kaslana..." Even if said village was hidden, everyone has at least heard of that name before. "Hm." The blond now gives it more thought, suddenly this situation sounds more complicated than Kise anticipated. This is definitely more key information, useful too. But, should he be prudent and bring this up to Kasamatsu and the council?

"If you were running away, then that means they are looking out for you." And there must be a reason as to why the other refused to be captured by them, maybe? It might be an exaggeration but that's what anyone else would think off.

The harsh subject they were beginning to touch upon made the sweet stroll under the sun through the lively yet peaceful village seem like a fleeting dream that could vanish before his eyes at any moment. The handcuffs gave the blond protector a sense of control, but nothing more.

If Kuroko was going to share a tiny portion of his reality, he would do so cautiously, avoiding to get the most negative consequences. It was difficult, but he had been trained and demanded the impossible since forever, so there was no point whether he could do it or not to start with. Enough overthinking.

"That's right." He raised his head again. Cooperative, but cautious. Believing that name providen gave Kise enough tools to protect himself from the council. "They can't get here. It's outside their domain. And my best option... at that time." That should solve the mystery of why he had appeared so badly injured in the vicinity of the village.

Then, he got more... serious.

"It may seem like I don't care about my life." That may have been true, but Kuroko wasn't free enough to consciously think that. His life was never his alone. "But if I die here, they will know. And won't take it well."

Kuroko carefully closed the subject, because he couldn't share any more information about himself. It was already dangerous enough for the village to be aware of what he was playing with, but if they used it reasonably, it could be good. It was also his silent gratitude. Although he was a prisoner, it was no exaggeration to say that these had been the best days of his life.

Shortly after he finished speaking, a small commotion sharpened his senses and made him look in that direction. “Did you hear that?”

At that, Kise redirected his eyes from the TV screen to look at his partner. His amber eyes reflected the shock upon hearing Kuroko apologize for making him uncomfortable again. "You don’t make me uncomfortable." There was honesty in his voice, and he truly meant it; it wasn’t as if the latter had any ill intentions. He knew Kuroko was not that kind of person-- Otherwise, this relationship wouldn’t have flourished in the first place.

He liked spending time with the shadow / he enjoyed the other's company and particularly enjoyed talking about things outside of basketball. Kise sometimes even went to Seirin, even though they didn’t live relatively close, just to be able to see Kuroko. It would be a lie if Kise said he wasn’t eager when Kuroko accepted his invitation of coming over to his place. Truth be told, he wasn’t expecting anything to happen besides watching a movie, but he wasn’t exactly against it either.

So why was it that he now felt... Guilty, for stopping Kuroko from going further? Maybe Kise wasn’t feeling that bold right now, which was why his brain was spiraling into overthinking, barely paying attention to the movie. "Don’t be sorry, Kurokocchi. You didn’t do anything wrong." Again, he was honest. "I... I was just caught off guard." This time, it was a partial lie. "I didn’t think you had it in you, Kurokocchi~. I mean, in... Doing something else." An awkward laugh escaped his throat, as he felt a bit lost on how to bring up the topic of sex at all.

The lie was so obvious that pointing it out would have been embarrassing for Kise. Kuroko was used to him beating around the bush, so there was no change in his expression. His expression softened when he interpreted Kise's words as meaning that he didn't want that distance between them. They were on the same page.

I didn't think you had it in you.

Okay, that made him blush. Come to think of it, it was unlikely that he would do that. His surprise was justified, but there was something else that continued to bother him. "I... didn't think much about it. I was comfortable with you and it occurred to me that... we could.“ Kuroko also liked to surprise his partner from time to time, but it backfired a little today. ”I should have asked you first, sorry about that."

...No, even then he still didn't quite understand why Kise had been scared. He had never seen that expression on his face before. As Kuroko had already thought before, he would wait for the right moment to ask.

"If you don't mind, could we move closer again?" Because talking from one end of the sofa to the other wasn't his favorite activity either.

"Guh..." He's not against dogs, but chihuahuas are not the most flattering. Don't they shiver all the time? ...Yes, okay, Furihata is maybe kind of known for being scared, a little bit, but surely he could graduate to a slightly bigger dog someday? "W-Well... if I was a chihuahua, I think I'd at least be able to take Nigou in a fight!" Not very impressive, but... he has to start somewhere.

“Nigou?” Well, no one mentioned anything about a Chihuahua, but he wasn't wrong about people comparing him to one since he went head-to-head with Akashi in that game. He crossed his arms, his expression unchanged. “Nigou is strong enough to beat Kagami-kun, are you sure?” Not literally, but of course, Nigou was still like a weakness for his teammate.

You know how you can tell when someone seems to be watching you? Which was funny coming from Kise, considering he was used to being the center of attention-- Perhaps it was even funnier considering who had his eyes on him.

Okay fine, let’s just stop being vague. It was Kuroko who happened to be watching his every move, and Kise felt like he had a stalker hovering over him. Again, this was funny considering Kuroko’s lack of presence; it felt as if he was being… Well, threatened was not the correct word, let’s just go with intense concentration, the same sentiment they both had when being rivals on the basketball court.

"Kurokocchi", Kise finally had the courage to speak up, with the same confidence he always had, pretending nothing ever happened. Because it did not, nope. "Do you, uhm, want to... Ask me something?" Okay he gives up, maybe he will cave in and just go along with whatever his boyfriend had to ask. // @etherealxshadows

His favorite interaction with Kise was not staring at him from across the couch, trying to guess what he was thinking or what was going through his mind. But that was the best move he could make after he had rejected him. It wasn't the rejection itself that worried Kuroko, but how… strange Kise was acting. As his boyfriend, was it normal to be concerned?

"Hm?" First one to talk huh, like nothing happened. That was to be expected but it wasn't enough to make Kuroko forget about what he saw.

"Yes, I do." That was it: a precise, short answer. No holding back. "But I don't think this is the best time to do it. I can wait." A little of holding back, maybe. "I guess I was making you uncomfortable again... Sorry, Kise-kun."

For now, and also for before. Kuroko felt like he had crossed a line he didn't know existed, and wanted to ask about it… when Kise was ready. And if he wanted to.

For a second, Kuroko thought they were going to hug, but then came the pat on the shoulder, and he dismissed the thought. "I'm glad you liked it. Just a small thing, I thought it might help you." The fact that it was shaped like a dog was an unintended bonus, but it had worked out well for him. Ever since he was compared to a Chihuahua, no one had been able to stop associating dogs with him. “I think it's pretty obvious why people associate you with dogs, Furihata-kun.” No, he's not making the effort to read the room.

"Don't be sorry?" Don't make him feel like the bad person, because he's not! He's just being considerate towards the sour mood that was not allowing Tetsu to act like his usual self. Aomine hummed, then pressed a kiss on top of his companion's head, even tried to ruffle that mess of a hair in an attempt to tame it.

"Cook you breakfast?" An eyebrow was raised, half amused / half curious at that proposition. "I mean, I can try-- Can't promise it'll be good, though." There was a reason as to why his parents left him with money and just ordered take out, sometimes Momoi even tries to cook for him (but that never ends well).

Hmm. Cute kiss. Mood increased. And his hair was better after that ruffle for sure (it wasn't hard to improve).

"No, forget it. I don't want to make a mess at your parents' kitchen and have them get mad at you... No offense." Kuroko also liked them, and they always let him stay over. It was in his best interest to keep them happy. If he didn't know about Aomine's cooking skills, from his response he could already guess. "Let's try something else." Thinking again, long and hard, thinking... oh. "What about... a bath?" But you didn't need him for that Kuroko. Unless... "You and me? Your bathroom is big enough, isn't it?"

No ulterior motives, Kuroko genuinely thought that taking a nice bath with him might put him in a good mood. And he was sure to get a kiss or two along the way.

Aomine let out a soft, low chuckle at the annoyance expressed on Kuroko's face. "Hm, you are adorable, is my guess." That was that / no teasing / no holding back. Just them, enjoying that little bubble in his room.

There was a warm, cozy feeling building up in the lower part of his body, which would soon be begging for attention. But before all that, the taller one appreciated the closeness; the warmth radiating from Kuroko's body was also nice. Even with both of their shirts already taken off, it was starting to get even hotter.

No complaints from him, just a resigned, soft sigh for being called cute. It can't be helped / to be seen as cute wasn''t that bad either. Kuroko would have to earn the right to be seen differently with other kinds of... actions.

The kisses on his neck melted his thoughts, until the change in intensity made him realize that his neck was a rather… sensitive area. "A-ah!" An involuntary moan escaped him, surprised by the pinching sensation caused by something as soft as his lover's lips. It was a moment / the taller one immediately withdrew / left him and his shame behind / along with a rush of heat coming directly from his lower region. Ugh. Kuroko brought one hand to his neck, but this time the goal wasn't to caress him, but rather to hold him. He tried to imitate what Aomine just did: placing his lips on his neck and sucking a little harder. But that wasn't all he did.
