WELL, I got the highest grade for my thesis and presentation, and a very nice review from my advisor that may or may not have made made me cry. Thank you guys for your patience and support, I feel like y'all played a major role in me staying motivated and not dropping out during that last year. Gotta figure out what to do next after 15 years of just studying... A terrifying thought but oh well

Now that I'm FREE and have some time for myself, I have a few practice shots planned, that's the first one! Wanted to work with perspective and depth, and let me tell you, those legs were a nightmare to draw. Also the apple was hanging from a thick branch originally but I wanted to spice it up so now there are LEAVES and MOVEMENT

Also I've found a toggle in tumblr settings that had been compressing my videos, so now everything's gonna be in full HD like it's SUPPOSED to be

On that note, I have a question: did my drawings become more (or less) saturated lately? I got a new monitor two months ago, which I'm still getting used to, and due to me being stubborn to get a high res monitor no matter what, it doesn't match my tablet anymore so I can't check colors on the big screen as I go.. so yeah, let me know if it's different

Today's Art Tip is about drawing the head in perspective, and some shorthands to hopefully make that a little easier.

Re: foreshortening a jaw that very intentionally stylistically ends in a point.

Unfortunately, sharp chins, especially the shorthand you see in most manga and anime, are a stylistic shorthand that don't naturally occur in real life. Even if they did, sharp chins are a rendering of the front of the lower mandible. For an upturned face, we are looking at and trying to believably convey the UNDERSIDE of that lower mandible, which is a completely different shape.

(Keep in mind that build and fat distributions add a bunch of variables that looking at bones don't account for.)

So my advice for different chin sizes is to focus more on the shape and curve of the underside of the lower mandible.

Anyway I commissioned a friend for a doll head that has a pointed chin so I went ahead and took some pics of it (keep in mind that it has asymmetrical eyes)

Don’t forget ColourLovers, either! It’s a social media-esque site where you can browse tons of palettes and share your own.

You can browse the most popular ones or search for certain colors, themes, and even specific hex codes!

When you find one you like, you can download a wallpaper swatch of it and also select the specific colors it uses to look at more palettes that use those same ones.

ColourLovers is my go-to for when I’m having trouble coming up with a color scheme! It’s also been around for over a decade, so there’s plenty to browse through.

ahh thank you so much!!

i really don't use anything special...i alternate between these two brushes (and one more, that's since been deleted) for the lines/sketches and for colors i just use the basic gpen lol.

i rarely render stuff anyway (if you look at even the colored pieces, only the skin and hair have anything to them, the rest is flat colors) so i don't think too hard about the brushes except for the sketching process (since i also dont really do lineart LOL i just clean up the sketch)
