Rafael had such an air about him in the way he moved that Myles couldn’t help but sit and listen with the upmost attentiveness. He was a mixture of softness, elegance, and an exciting wonder as he animatedly gave a dramatic retelling of prior events. Blond can’t help but smile as he listens and react accordingly in his own attempt to match the energy.
They still want you to complete the job – Myles frowns with the smallest twitch of his lip, interjecting if they’re going to pay him twice. It wasn’t his mixup after all.
The story of Charles is familiar and he hums along as he glances of the menu. The moment twin is mentioned has Myles once again looking up with a groan, knowing exactly where this story was headed. Laughter bubbles up in his throat as it gets worse and worse! Putting a it out on himself but meant for his twin, the absolute shamelessness of it! The lack of forethought! It’s always the messy ones that think they’re smart enough to pull something like this just because they watched a few movies once or twice.
Everything seemed to be tied nicely in a bow for him despite it all, and Myles hums in acknowledgement that he’d definitely have to get him some dessert.
“I wish I could say this was the first time something like this has happened, but other people will take any chance they can get to pass the blame to anyone but themselves. I suppose that’s why they like working with middle men like us.” Tired sigh fills the short pause. “I’ll need a resigned contract with the particulars they want. I’ll be sure to keep him alive, albeit, unpleasantly and– well. the bucket wasn’t– sometimes you get into the mindset of your work, and people interrupting that can leave things messy.”
“Again, thank you for handling this so well. Work gets complicated, so please, order anything you’d like. I bet you’ve been busy nonstop since it all went down.”
mouth parched from his long-winded spree , the boy reaches for water to wet his tired tongue . he touches his throat , clears it , && looks back with eyes satisfied && smile amused by company’s return , even jolting with a small chuff at myles’ explanation . the bucket – he snickers with an echo of a laugh again && sets down the glass . still giddy , still bright .
❝ don’t mind it, please . i enjoy being busy . i prefer everything in order as opposed to chaos and filth . ❞ messy rooms && messy business always tugged at the nerves . so much so one might consider it a condition, at worst . or perhaps a case self-induced masochism , given the line of work blond muddied himself in . ❝ i’ll have all the details squared away and a new contract written up and ready for you as soon as i am able . again , we thank you for your understanding and patience . ❞ he smiles , cordial , as if making a joke of the rehearsed && overused ( now robotic ) line . even in the business of murder , civility amongst the cogs remained key to keeping the machine ticking .
a sigh deflates the youth , && as breath eases , the last of the monologue’s excitement leaves his cheeks . his eyes return to the menu , to the meal he’d been reading before the sudden tirade , && mouth waters instantly . he hums thoughtfully .
❝ you know , now that i’ve told you my little story , you’ll have to tell me one of your own . ❞ hand rises to flag down the waiter ( of course glancing to myles first to check that he was ready ) && put down his order of meat && fish && glass of wine to match . ❝ it doesn’t have to be about work , of course , it’s just – considering all i’ve heard and read about your profile , i can’t help being a tad curious about the man behind the résumé . ❞
