âThe paradoxical "liking the lows" things that doesn't make sense. The thought only stood out to me after being sober for a while... Being sober, I practically have no control whatsoever over the way I feel. Not "feel about myself", but my overall state of mind, especially emotional state. Generally, just dull and low below baseline, and never knowing when it decides to plummet or when I'm gonna have a brief moment of clarity.
Using (especially opiates/opioids) I have that control. I know exactly when I'm gonna feel like shit. And I know exactly how and what to do to reverse that completely 180 degrees. Besides opiates, my mind just immediately associates different good feelings with different drugs to take (or combos). Without, it's just dull, empty. Or worse.â
