When ZANTETSU develops a crush on his manager, he keeps it to himself for a while.
He’s unsure of what he’s feeling and isn’t able to acknowledge that he likes you yet. He takes it upon himself to learn as much as he can about you before making a move; though, he does have a hard time remembering all the little details. So, Zantetsu watches you, admiring you from afar. Although he might not be the brightest mind out on the field, he sure is observant. And his observant nature translates to his life off the field too.
He'll overhear you talking about some drink you tried over the weekend and how much you wish you could have it again. He'll mentally make a note about it and all the little things about you, but somehow he manages to mix it all up in the process. Was your favorite color orange or blue? Gods, he can’t remember for the life of him.
He’ll ask you questions and you’ll answer them happily, explaining strategies or terms to him as needed. Zantetsu will soon begin to look forward to seeing you more than playing soccer.
Then, there’s this strange feeling in his chest when someone else has your attention. Zantetsu is strangely territorial. The ravenette’s usually calm demeanor is challenged when you give anybody who isn’t him attention; he wants to rush over and demand your attention because he wishes it was him that you smiled so brightly at. In moments like these, Zantetsu finds it extremely difficult to hold himself together.
Some part of him wonders what all these feelings could mean while the other side urges him to ignore it. Despite his confusion, Zantetsu still tries his best to get close to you. He’ll start making small talk with you when he can and you chalk it up to him just being polite.
Over time, what used to be painfully simple small talk turns into, “What are you doing this weekend?” or “Have you been eating well?”
And there’s no forgetting the ever so popular inside joke the two of you have, “What's the meaning of life (Name)-?” To which you always respond, “I think you might be asking the wrong person, Zantetsu.”
And before you know it, you’re slowly becoming more and more invested in each other.
It was you who acted on your feelings first. You remember calling Zantetsu to the side after a practice game; he jogged over to you and offered you his full attention. Your eyes were busy looking at your clipboard, and you nervously adjusted the papers under the clip that held them to the plastic surface.
“Zantetsu, would you be interested in going on a date with me?”
Color bloomed in his cheeks at your words and once you glanced up from your clipboard, he hid his surprise under a poorly disguised cough.
“Uh-” He stuttered, adjusting his glasses with the gentle touch of his index finger, “I have to check my routine.”
“Your schedule?” You questioned, knowing Zantetsu mixes his words up. “Hmm, well, get back to me okay?” You smiled sweetly at him, the smile that he always wished was directed towards him, and he swore that he felt weak in the knees.
“(Name)?” Zantetsu calls as you were walking away. You turn to look at him and the usual steely, cold look in his eyes has suddenly gone soft.
