Eleven Things to Carry into 2018
It’s been a long time. Too long. I would say that I had a good reason for my absence, but I don’t. I simply let this blog drift away as life got crazy. Since then, I’ve learned a couple things (well, a lot of things). And so, I’m going to share with you eleven things that I plan to carry with me into 2018.
1. Words are so powerful. I’ve rediscovered my love of writing, and I never realized how therapeutic it was to simply write down what I was feeling. It is an amazing release.
2. Words are a double-edged sword. For every bit of good they do, there are about three bits of bad.
3. Friends will not always be there, and losing a best friend is one of the most underrated forms of heartbreak.
4. Bad is inevitable, but…
5. Pain is necessary. I know it’s making me a better person. I know I’m growing and learning.
6. God will never ever ever ever ever ever fail you. I’ll say it again. HE WILL NEVER FAIL YOU. In all of my hardships, God never left my side. Even when I drifted away from Him, He was still there blessing me and protecting me. What a friend…
7. Almost nothing beats a cup of coffee and a good book.
8. Escaping into nature is so surreal. Go do it. Surround yourself by God’s creation, and you’ll have no choice but to realize that everything will be okay.
9. Take care of yourself. You are the only “You” that you have, so go to that counseling appointment. Take a day off. Be by yourself. Be with friends. Eat the cake. Buy the book. Be in tune with yourself, and give yourself what you need. Self-care is not selfish. It is vital.
10. Trust God. Life is crazy and unpredictable and honestly kind of terrible sometimes, and I get so overwhelmed and anxious so easily. I have so many changes coming this year (graduating college, getting a job, paying taxes and bills–yikes…), but I have to lean on God. I’ve just handed it to Him. “Lead me where You want me, Lord. You have the masterplan. I’m just a servant.”
To 2017, I thank you for the lessons you taught me. It was a hard year, but I have come so far personally, professionally, and spiritually. There was a lot of bad, but there was so much good, too. My prayer for 2018 is that I take everything I learned in 2017 and continue to grow and learn and experience.
