@eurydicestreasure
“the monster, the traitor, and the perfect daughter.”
once upon a time
evil? evil was too simple. evil was too easy. evil was a child’s nightmare, an old wives’ tale, a thing caught between the teeth of muggle pastors and prophets and kings. no, she was not evil— she was what came after. she was the abyss that consumed. she was the terrible end. she was what became of all evil things when all the doubt ran out.
marauder (n.)
1. one who marauders; a raider.
2. a constellation of boys.
coward (n.)
1. a person who lacks the courage to do or endure dangerous or unpleasant things;
2. the frightened animal with its tail between its legs; or
3. a boy made of sheep fur and blood, nails ragged, bloodshot eyes and crooked teeth— fear is a blood-born pathogen, it is a ghost haunting generations, it is something carried in the stomach, in the skin, in the eyes.
Rolf Pettigrew, 45
Born Ptolemy Bragg, Rolf was a squibb of the Brag family. A strict man with a lot of baggage, he tries his best to be the wise, all-knowing father and the head of his house, but the things he often tells his child and wife are not always the best advice. He feels unhappy being the only nonmagical member of the family and hates that his wife primarily runs their business as the kelpie can be dangerous for him. He is missing his entire left arm from a kelpie incident when Peter was a small boy.
Wendlin Pettigrew, 46
The daughter of the Pettigrew family, Wendlin grew up around kelpies and in the house she now calls her own home. Her own parents were strict and had many children in order to keep the farm going- she is the youngest of sixteen children and the only one who still remains on old Pettigrew land. She does not have connections with her family and has no idea where the rest of the siblings have ended up, all but herself having developed a hatred of what the family does. She has vowed to be nothing like her own parents, but this leaves her often exhausted and unhappy with her life.
Pettigrew Farm, Hedley on the Hill, Northumberland, Yorkshire
The Pettigrew farm is located just west of Newcastle Upon Tyne and is a kelpie farm. Unlike other types of kelpie that tend to breed in other areas of the United Kingdom, Yorkshire Kelpie almost exclusively take the form of sheep. This is believed to be because the area has more sheep than horses and these kelpie tend to live near marshes and swamplands. The only clear distinction between Yorkshire Kelpie and regular sheep is that they have longer legs and larger bodies.
The farm has existed for hundreds of years, always staying within the Pettigrew family. The farm produces the largest amount of kelpie hairs, used for potion-making, spellwork, and wand designs (usually used by non-Ollivander wand manufacturers). The family is not particularly rich, living in a house that dates back to the 1700s and still utilizing age-old spells. They don’t believe in bridles and placement charms for their kelpie, which has caused several deaths in the immediate area.
Peter Pettigrew, son of Rolf and Wendlin Pettigrew, is due to take over the farm in the coming years.
He saw in himself the liar that he always said he wasn’t— the coward, the bastard, the weak piece of flesh hanging on for dear life (rotted and bloated and smelling of something vile). He looked into the mirror and he saw the boy who ran, the boy who hid, the boy who was nothing but flesh and bone and fear. He heard his mother telling him, “You do what it takes to survive. No matter what, Peter. You promise me that.” He’d survived so far, but what was the cost of that survival? What was the cost of this betrayal? What was the cost of emptying his soul out of every piece of good James and Remus and Lily and Sirius and Dumbledore and— they had all seen the good in him. Why had he never believed them?

Almost. It’s a big word for me. I feel it everywhere. Almost home. Almost happy. Almost changed. Almost, but not quite. Not yet. Soon, maybe.

Fantastic Beasts Headcanon
For those of you who have seen the movie already, I bet you anything that the reason Dumbledore let Hagrid stay on as groundskeeper was because Hagrid reminded him so much of Newt.
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Newt Scamander was/is one of Hagrid’s biggest heroes growing up.
Never… insult… Albus Dumbledore… in front of me!
