Note: Bear with my writing, I am getting back into it after so long so here is me trying. I hope you enjoy this little drabble of mine for Tom's Birthday. Surprise drawing at the end of our birthday boy. :>>

Yuletide was a season of coldness, where frost bites at your very skin and sticks to your bones. That was how the little orphan boy would describe his Christmas, where he, locked behind four walls and a bed that barely fit his frame and clothes that could never offer the warmth he sought for would feel every year until he was eleven years of age. When other children got what was depraved of him, what was deemed unworthy of him, and what made him resent the season altogether. He was cold, his heart colder by the years of learning of what being different feels like. Until he was offered a way out, Hogwarts, his heritage, his magic, the very thing that set him apart back in Wools. He deemed it his gift, one the world had been merciful to grant him after everything. It was his. And still, it wasn’t enough for him to enjoy yule at all, as the memories of the orphanage a bitter reminder of it.
Then there was the matter of an anomaly he’d never expected in his life at Hogwarts. An annoyance he thought at first that soon bled into a miracle that he would never admit out loud. A transfer student from Beaubaxtons in his 5th year had appeared had unknowingly changed the trajectory of his stay in school for the better. It had began with tutoring due to them having to settle into a new life but overtime he finds himself growing more and more curious as the time goes by. Just like any other origins of companionship, the curiosity blooms into something much deeper overtime, late night studies in the restricted section of the library, one upping each other whenever the occasion presents and well settling into a conversation that allows them both to be vulnerable and who knew that yule moving forward since 6th year had him waking to gifts from you.
“You told me.” Is what you would say the first time he demanded why he received a gift for the first time in his life from someone else that was actually thought of in his preferences. Who knew that with that small gift from you would make him appreciate you more than he intended to. That come the next yule and the next, he would receive personal gifts from you. You’ve thought of him a lot after all, knowing that it won’t make the horrible memories go away but at least, it would make room for more with him. For better memories throughout the years.
At 28, you wake to the smell of tea on the nightstand, the smell of Earl Grey wafting through the air as you find Tom by the window. The covers shift around your bare skin as you hold up the sheets. He notices you then and moves towards you, sitting on the side of the bed, admiring the marks he’s given you the night before.
“Good morning Tom.” You greet him as he leans in to kiss your temple.
“Good morning darling.” He replies quietly, his hand finding yours to brush over the ring that sat on your finger, one that was identical to his. A promise out of the countless one’s he’s given you for being eternally yours. You began reaching for the drawer on the nightstand as he sighs, he knows what it is and you’ve been together for this long that he’s still surprised you come up with so many unique things to give him. A red box sits between you, a bright color in contrast to the dark sheets.
“Happy Birthday love.” Your voice registers in his head, so tender, so soft as he’s always been used to every time you spoke to him and his heart swells more than he thought it could. Because despite it all, you were there for him, despite the darkness, despite the ways he had to take just to get where he is now, you remained. And as you see your classmate, your bestfriend, your boyfriend, and now your husband before you, you couldn’t help but fall in love him with him all over again, he had come so far in his life.
Perhaps yuletide wasn’t always cold as he thought it was. The little orphan boy now turned man had since then left the bitter ache of the memories behind for the very person sitting across from him on the bed. To him that was the greater gift, more than his magic or knowledge of his heritage. To be wrapped in a warm embrace of someone who he had considered half of him. This was all he could ever ask for and he would keep them eternally.

Tom is so withdrawn, keeps a personal diary, secretive. In his first year, he probably improved his speech and read about the magical world.
Ya i see this happening because he had to fit in with the rest of the students, especially with his pureblood peers. He probably threw himself in studying all he could and with the books at his disposal it would be easy for him to gain an upper hand in the academe.
