“This morning my boss asked me if you can buy plan b pills in bulk, like with paper cups and ramen. So, that was my day, how was yours?”

“Well, better to be prepared?” Eva shrugged, smirking softly. “My day was — well, I was doing hair for a music video, so it was pretty solid. Back in the salon tomorrow.”

“There are things…” He shrugged, “I just don’t like doing them here. Too many cameras, too many people. I’m not cut out for LA.”

“So— you’re saying you’re always this fun?” She teased, offering him a grin. “I don’t believe that, you’ve just gotta find your place in the crazy.”

“Yeah… No, wasn’t funny at all. Just thought it was a good icebreaker.. but realized it was terrible as soon as the words left my mouth..”

“Oh — hahaha,” Eva responded with humour. “Well —” flapping a hand in the others direction. “Points for effort, I suppose.”

“For sure. I think we’re both qualified as sane—well, maybe. At least more so than your average LA resident.” She chuckled. “And yeah, I’ll clear the air right now. Definitely not on cocaine or any other type of drugs. I’m high on life, and you know, the occasional drink.” The thought of drugs had never been particularly appealing to the girl, especially since she was someone who liked to use her brain—why would she in any way, reduce the usage of it? “That’s true, but the average person can always be in the loop if they so desire. You don’t even have to read nowadays, it’s all over the internet.”

“Well, heres hoping.” She remarked, her gaze now locked on the ends of Kendall’s hair as she lightly trimmed away at it, seemingly consumed with concentration. “Hey whatever works, no judgement from here. I’m pretty sure thats the standard LA diet anyway for most.” Glancing up from Kendalls hair, she flashed her a smile through the mirror. “Most, not me.” She clarified before dropping her attention to the hair again. “Well I suppose, but it has to find its way on the internet somehow.”

“I like making it boring—” Boring was good, boring got him through the day. He had enough drama to see him through the year, why would he want to add more to that stress? “If you think I’m going to start dancing or something, you’re wrong.”

“Hold up, I’m sure theres a good retirement centre around here if thats more your speed—” Eva remarked, flashing him a grin before letting her head shake lightly at him. “Who said you had to go dancing. There must be something you like doing.”

“Is it just me or are my days just getting worse and worse? Yesterday I stepped in dog.. dodoo. Today I walked into a stop sign, like one of those comic relief scenes they put in movies. I should tell you, I don’t think this summer is for me. Maybe it’s true, 2016 is cursed.”

“Are you sure you’re not just, y’know.. clumsy.”

“Yes, I was named after the Greek goddess Athena.. However, I’m nothing near a goddess.. I’m more of like, satan or something.. Funny, isn’t it?”

“The only one who’s pretending here is you. Stick to your desperate housewives and your far in- between celebrities because you are seriously stumbling into the wrong lane. And I don’t want you to get run over.” She felt like she had stepped into the twilight zone with all of this drama of who could themselves what or who’s better than who. It barely began but already was growing old. Jenise had way bigger fish to fry than to listen to an unknown trying to criticize her. “If you are no longer interested then I think we’re done here, huh?” She let a polite smile grace her lips as she watched for what the brunette would do or say next.

Her brow raised at what seemed like empty threats. The last thing she cared for was some washed up stripper attempting to make digs at her. “Sweetheart— just—” she sighed, eyeing her for a moment. “You have some serious issues. Just get out of my face because I’m already like a hundred and ten percent done with your shit. Get to some anger issue classes and pull those bunny ears out of your ass.”

“You know, Eva, I think you’re right about that. It has to be something about these major cities—maybe it’s the fumes.” She replied, still trying not to move her head around too much as she spoke. “Well… I’m supposedly a broadcast journalist,” Kendall said, letting out a humorless laugh. “But it’s LA. There’s so many scandals, celebrities—my people often force silly stories on me, so I don’t really know anymore. Depends on the day, I suppose.”

“Maybe thats it. Or the glamorous edge that rich people find in cocaine—” she spoke, obviously not thinking as the words spewed out of her mouth. “Not y’know—” she cringed internally. “Accusing either of us of partaking. We both seem pretty sane here.” Eva shrugged ever so lightly as she leaned forwards and picked her scissors up. “Supposedly,” she smirked, head nodding almost understandingly — though she was the kind of girl that thrived on gossip. “Well, at least you’re always in the loop.”

“Los Angeles is boring—” He laughed, “No play for the wicked as they say…” Or so he thought they said, he could have been wrong though. “Take me anywhere but here, I’m less boring then.” Jax hated everything about LA, the lifestyle, the people and the work, but he was here for a reason. “This place is everything I’m not, but I’m not always a boring old man.”

“It’s only as boring as you make it—” She exclaimed, hand raising so her finger could wag at him teasingly. “I uh, maybe, but you don’t look particularly wicked.” Eve remarked as her head tilted to the side, peering at him again. As though attempting to sum him up. “Now that sounds like a challenge. C’mon, let loose.”
