People, they change| Jeff| Open|

They arrived at the hospital and rushed Jeff in. He was still sleeping soundly and unaware of everything. Every now and then, he would twitch in his sleep and then fall still again.

The doctors kept asking Evan how he knew Jeff, repeatedly. They’d tried getting into contact with Jeffs parents, but never got an answer, so they figured they’d try again later. It would be no use, though. But they could try all they wanted.

Everytime they needed to run tests on Jeff, they would tell Evan he couldn’t come in. Eventually, they admitted Jeff to a room and kept him under close watch.

“Give him time to rest. You can stay, or come back later.” A friendly doctor suggested.

Shit. Evan ran his fingers through his hair and exhaled deeply. He was worried about Jeff. The kid had given Evan all the signs of someone suffering from schizophrenia that hadn't had medicine to treat it. And Evan ignored the signs and tried to play it cool. He should have brought him to the doctor. He should have just straight up confronted him. This was his fault. This could have been prevented.

As the doctor approached him, he half-listened to what the guy said. Then he took a piece of paper and scrawled out his phone number onto it. "Call me if there's anything I can do, or if anything happens." It wasn't Evan asking, it was him demanding. The doctor walked away and Evan stood up. Where was he going to go? His car was back at CVS, and he couldn't walk back to it from here, it would take too long and he didn't just want to leave Jeff there. He swore under his breath and walked out of the hospital, standing outside.

He stared at his phone, it had no messages and Evan had never felt so alone. But more than that, he felt...angry. Didnt anyone care about Jeff? He probably hadn't been in school for quite some time. Then again, Jeff was a new kid and no one really cared about the new kids. Evan sat down on a curb and continued staring at his phone. He didn't want to bother Lacey, because he didn't want to seem needy and there was no one else who would really care. Sure he could gently inform everyone at Daleview by posting on tumblr, but that'd be a bad decision, and Jeff could just want this to blow over. So Evan sat there, and didn't do anything.

No one left, they backed up, but they remained. Some of them crying and shuddering, some of them just staring. Jeff was unaware of everything. The woman Evan had given the phone to had cried everything into the phone and then handed it back.

Jeff thrashed more before finally falling silent for a few seconds. And then the thrashing started again, but only for a few moments. Then Jeff sucked in a sharp breath, that almost sounded like it was severely painful. And his breathing hitched.

Before stopping completely.

"For fucks sake, Jeff." Evan mumbled to himself. He choked when Jeff stopped breathing. He ignored the woman handing him his phone and quickly ripped off a sleeve from his shirt. He wiped Jeffs mouth and pressed his hands to Jeffs chest, beginning the process of CPR, he pumped his hands in a rhythm, as best as he could remember from his first aid classes. When that didn't work, he didnt hesitate before making sure Jeffs airways were clear and pressing his mouth to Jeffs.

Evan felt himself become shaky, but he didnt stop trying to breathe for the boy. When Evan felt Jeffs body push upward as air was forced into his airways, Evan backed off and Jeff began coughing. Then his breathing regulated itself and he settled into what seemed like a deep sleep. Evan covered his face with his hands and sat back, sighing.

As he did this, paramedics rushed in and studied the scene quickly before asking what happened. "He was yelling, and then he, he, collapsed and started shaking!" A worker said.

Evan snorted. "He had a seizure, well a seizure and a half, then he stopped breathing like 2 minutes ago." He paused and bit his lip. "I think he may be schizophrenic and hasnt had a proper dose of clozapine for about 3 or more days."

The paramedics stared at him. He shrugged and they set up the stretcher and on a count of three, placed Jeff on it. They began to walk out and Evan followed. As they reached the ambulance, he got a medics attention. "I'm coming with him."

They had no problem with this and Evan sat down in the back of the ambulance, looking at a now peaceful Jeff. "You didn't have to lie, kid." He leaned back and closed his eyes momentarily, now exhausted.

The woman came back empty handed and Jeffs stomach dropped. She smiled at him, apologetic. “Your prescription isn’t ready, your doctor hasn’t gotten back to us.” Jeff felt the sweat droplets on his forehead. He didn’t answer right away and she kept talking. “What we can do is we can call your doctor and you can come back tomorrow or the day after, and then—” Jeff exploded.

“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN IT’S NOT READY?” He grabbed fistfuls of his hair. “I…I NEED MY MEDICINE. ITS NOT FUCKIN’ ANTIBIOTICS, DO YOU GET IT? IT CAN’T WAIT!” He pulled at his hair, and ignored the people in line who were staring at him. The girl behind the desk gaped at him. And a woman behind him touched his shoulder and said, “Please, kiddo, calm down—”

“CALM DOWN?!” He removed a hand from his hair and curled it into a fist, then he swung back and punched at the glass in front of him, which had been blocking the pharmacy area. It shattered and everyone began talking at once, trying to calm him, but he didn’t hear them. Before Jeff knew it, he felt his world spin and his knee’s gave in. And he collapsed. His body began jerking wildly and his vision went fuzzy. He was unaware of the seizure. No one moved, but everyone was yelling, not that he could hear.

Evan stood patiently. He listened to the song that was playing in the store, unable to recognize it. His listening was interrupted by yelling, which he ignored at first. Then he recognized the voice and his eyes widened. He dropped his bag on the floor and ran to the back pharmacy area. He got there and looked around, then saw everyone crowded around something. He got a glimpse of what they were staring at. Jeff was having a seizure.

His eyes widened even more and he shoved past a man, knocking him out of the way. He shrugged clumsily out of his jacket and curled it into a ball. He set it on the ground and knelt next to a thrashing Jeff, grabbing him and rolling him onto his side as liquid started foaming out of his mouth. Evan grabbed his jacket and placed it under Jeffs head.

"Everyone needs to back up or even better, get out." Evan snarled and stayed by Jeffs side. He dug into his pocket and pulled out his phone and dialed 911, he thrusted the phone into a workers hands. "Tell them everything. Fast." Evan felt like he was going to pass out from panic, but he kept as calm as he could.

The boy rolled his eyes at Evan and got out of the car. He walked to the automatic doors and entered the cold store. He sighed, as the cold helped soothe his massive headache. He turned and nodded to Evan before walking briskly to the back pharmacy area. He glanced at every aisle to make sure no one he knew was here. He stood on line and his mind raced. /What if Evan knows? Nah, he can’t. He’s a vocal teacher, not a doctor./ He bit his lip. /But you never know, Jeff. What if he’s lying about being a teacher?/ This thought made Jeff queasy. But he shook it away. /You’re just paranoid. No one will find out. No one else is here./ “Next.” A young lady behind the counter called to him and he put on his best smile and approached the desk, setting down the prescription and nodding. He didn’t care what she thought. “Hi. Um, Jeff Lawson is the name on the prescription.” She nodded and entered the name into the computer. She frowned and looked at him. “Erm, do you have ID, Mr. Lawson?” Jeff pulled it from his wallet and handed it to her. She gave him an uneasy smile and went to fetch his medicine.

He watched Jeff go through the store and when the other guy was out of seeing range, he sighed and approached the front counter. He pulled HIS ID out and showed the cashier before he smiled and said, "A pack of Marlboro lights." He gestured to the pack of cigarettes, and handed the guy the cash before wrinkling his nose at the cigarettes and putting them in his pocket. He then went to the feminine needs aisle and, all while wishing he could be shot, picked up a package of tampons and put them in his basket, then he turned and spotted the small section with the condoms and all of that. He considered it, just in case, but shrugged and walked out of the aisle. Lacey better love him to the infinite for all of this. He went into the soda aisle and grabbed a bottle of Coca cola, because his girlfriend had a preference of Coke over Pepsi. Shrugging, Evan went to the hair care aisle and grabbed a bottle of hairspray, this for himself. Then he paid for all of it, ignoring the clerks chuckle at the tampons, and stood by the door, waiting for Jeff.

“Well, uh, thanks.” Jeff didn’t like taking peoples help. He was more independent when it came to himself. But he appreciated it, all the same. When Evan asked why, Jeff raced to think of a lie. He cleared his throat and shrugged. “I need medicine for the mono I had.” He nodded and gestured to the prescription in his hand, being careful not to show that it wasn’t mono meds on the thing. Not that Evan would know the difference, Jeff thought.

"Huh." Evan nodded, not believing a word the kid said. He would get to the facts sooner or later. "The kissing disease." He smirked and shook his head. "Damn kids." Evan teased. He'd had mono before, it wasn't fun, but it was worth it. He pulled into a parking spot and got out. "I'm going to come in with you, because I need to get some stuff." He locked the car and waited for Jeff.

“Great, yeah. I am relaxed.” He nodded repeatedly. “I take a music class and a theatre class and I plan on an acting class next year, also.” Jeff had big dreams and he’d do whatever to make it come true. He was not going to be a failure and nothing would get in his way.

He smiled slightly. "Right. I don't know anything about theatre and hardly anything about acting. But hey," He glanced over at Jeff. "If you need help, vocally, come to me." He turned a corner and the CVS building came into view. Evan slowed down a little and glanced at Jeff again. "Why do you need to go to CVS?" He asked quietly and casually.

Jeff sat down and on habit, his leg began to shake. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a stick of gum. “Um, CVS.” He said nervously while unwrapping the gum and beginning to chew on it. Jeff stared out the window. “You’re a teacher, right? Thats what you said, right?” He just wanted to make sure. “What do you, uh, what do you teach?”

"Relax." He said simply. "Yeah, well I'm a student teacher, but I pretty much teach Vocals." Evan nodded and stopped at the traffic light. "Do you take music classes?" He would remain merely curious. It was the best approach.

Lacey listened and nodded. She was content, sitting there in his arms. Safe. She widened her eyes at his proclamation and smiled into his kiss, kissing him back anxiously. Laceys heart beat fast and she let her lips linger on his. He was addictive and she couldn’t help but kiss him again. “You cheeseball you.” She giggled breathlessly. She felt bad for not telling him what actually happened, but right now, she just wanted to be with him. Lacey wrapped her arms around his neck and sighed happily. “I love you, Evan.”

This made Evan smile. He kissed the top of her head. "Oh, Lacey." He placed kisses along her jawline and whispered, "I love you too. I won't ever hurt you again." Evan didn't care what other people would think about him. He didn't care if their ages were 'disgusting' or what anyones opinion on him was. All he cared about was the girl in his arms.

Jeff stared at him. He sure was weird. Jeff knitted his eyebrows together when Evan walked by. “Hey, wait!” He briskly walked after him. “How are you gonna tell ME ‘let’s go’ and then walk away without me?” He asked bitterly. When they were standing by Evans car, Jeff cleared his throat. “I’m Jeff, by the way.” He nodded once, still slightly out of place.

Evan snorted and rolled his eyes, turning back slightly. "Well, I just did it, didn't I?" He opened the car doors and sat down, adjusting his mirrors. "Nice to meet you, Jeff." He reversed and looked over at the boy. "Where to?" Evan could guess where, but didn't want to make Jeff uncomfortable.

She’s lying to me. He thought sourly. Then he shook it off. If she had a good reason to lie, he’d leave it alone. For now.

He kissed her back and smiled as well. “Me?” He tugged her by a hand to his favorite chair and sat down, pulling her onto his lap and making sure she was comfortable. He nuzzled her with his nose affectionately. “I’m just your average guy.”

She grinned and snuggled against him. “Average guy?” Lacey nudged him and looked up at him, kissing his neck. “Please, tell me what makes you so average.” She giggled. “I’m going to interrogate you now.” She thought for a minute. “Where are you from? What did you want to be when you got older? Are you happy with where you are now?” She bit her lip and sighed.

Evan chuckled. "Yes, average guy, thank you very much." He kissed her forehead. "You make me seem much more special than I deserve." It was true though. He didn't know why she stuck with him. But he wasn't complaining. He smirked and kissed her on the lips. "I was born in Pennsylvania and I wanted to be an actor when I grew up." He smiled. "I still have time, though, I haven't grown up yet, yeah?" Evan grinned devilishly and winked, before looking at her seriously. "This is going to sound cheesy." He examined her before whispering, "Of course I'm happy, I have everything I could ever want. And by that, I mean you." Evan pressed his lips to hers passionately, putting all of his feelings into the kiss. He wouldn't say it, but he thought he truly loved her.

Lacey slipped on a leather jacket after finally taking care of herself. She showered, cut her hair so it looked nice, she even did laundry. Maybe she would start catering to herself. She had on the jacket, a strapless shirt, and black skinny jeans as she headed out the door, smiling thinly at her phone before locking it and continuing on her way. She found herself outside of his door in no time. Lacey knocked once and stood relaxed outside the door. She didn’t really want to talk. She just wanted to be with him.

Once Lacey knocked, he opened the door. He raked over her with his eyes and smirked. “You look stunning, as usual.” He murmured, before kissing her. Evan pulled away. “So why didn’t you answer my texts last night, hmmmm?” He teased, not really mad, but curious.

Lacey groaned when he pulled away. Then she sighed and shrugged, lying. “It was nothing. I just didn’t want to be bothered. You know? For me time.” She took a step forward and closed the door behind her. She reached up and tangled her fingers into his hair, kissing him. “We always talk about me.” She mumbled into the kiss, smiling. “Let’s talk about you for once, sound good?” She kissed him and pulled away slightly, nibbling on his lip.
