Evan: [snatches the phone from him] Hi, Di, Can we like.. Can we call you back... um.. Landon's helping me with my shoes.
Diana: You cannot be serious. No, you really can't. Not until someone tells me what the hell is going on.
Evan: Look. We will figure this out as soon as my Jimmy Choo's are separated from my Manolos... and that could be a few hours... Or days if we check the other closet. Can we please talk about this later? You need to do talk to the Wedding planner because they're trying to put orchid in the wedding arrangements, your grandmother is literally screwing everything up and you need to handle it.

Landon: Funny you mention that. I was in the hospital for a bit. I dunno, got stressed or whatever, didn't take my medication, drank like a full bottle of my special brand, and popped a few pills. I fucked up.
Diana: [she takes a sharp intake of breath]...why am I just now hearing about this? Why would you...what the fuck is wrong with you? You know that's dangerous. And stupid. And really fucking selfish. I just...why would do something like that, Landon?
Evan: [snatches the phone from him] Hi, Di, Can we like.. Can we call you back... um.. Landon's helping me with my shoes.

The sight of Evangeline tearing up was more than confirmation he needed to know that she understood the situation more clearly now. His expression remained stoic, as he leaned his back against the wall for support. A normal man going through pain might even let a few tears slide by. Landon was incapable of even that much. No tears. No weakness. No pain. Landon Branson had been lost for a short amount of time, in between the first pill and the last one he took. Not anymore. He was back.
Although unemotional, Landon put his arm around Evan’s waist, pulling her into him for an embrace. He obviously wouldn’t let her just sit there and cry like that. He never dealt well with tears and women. “Evan, calm down. Just stop crying, please.” He held her close, waiting patiently for her to stop shaking. He guided her to his bed, and sat down beside her, shrugging slightly while holding the box in his hand. “Now you know. Funny thing is, if you could tell, this is the 2011 edition. I bought this ring nearly three years ago. She’d fucking hate it if she saw it.” Landon almost laughed. Almost. He looked up at Evan and wiped away her tears non-nonchalantly. “I haven’t taken any of her calls. She’s probably called you once or twice as well. Just tell her that Landon bridge has fallen down. I don’t think I can talk to her. But this ring doesn’t leave this room.”
Evan rested her head on Landon's chest, trying to stop her tears, but she was such a sap when it came to things like this. she couldn't help it. as much as she loved Di, she was almost angry at her, angry at the situation. That no matter how it played out, someone was always going to get hurt and in her heart, she knew it'd always be Landon. She didn't think it was fair, but she knew she'd be of no assistance. The best she could do was keep her mouth closed like he asked of her as he wiped her tears. She closed the ring box and set it back in the safe. "I promise," she said softly, wiping her face.
