To Evangeline.
At Landon’s outburst, Emma began to cry and Evan gave Landon a dark look. “Lower your voice.” She whispered and began to shush Emma softy, cooing to the child to calm it down once more. The last thing they needed right now was for the baby to be upset, but now Evan needed to calm down both Emma and Landon. She rolled her eyes as the little girl slowly began to stop crying and rested herself on Evan’s shoulder. Evan heaved a sigh and looked back at Landon. “Look, I’ll take the baby, you just figure out who she belongs to….” She looked around at Landon’s home, clearly not suited for a child. She’d have to fix that too. “I’ll child proof this place while I’m at it. ” Evan was actually glad to take the grunt work, she needed this distraction more than anything.
Landon sighed, lowering down to the couch behind him and taking a seat, resting his elbows on his knees and sinking his head into his hands. The man shook his head, struggling to come up with words to describe how he felt. Normally Landon was witty and always knew exactly what to say, but right now he was beyond a loss for words. "I... I'm sorry. I'm just fucking confused and a bit freaked out. And disgusted at myself for using the phrase 'freaked out'." He looked up at Evan and the baby, creasing his brow as the child calmly rested upon her shoulder. "How are you so good at this?"
