“You don’t owe me anything,” she answered. God, if there was someone who wouldn’t help out someone in the times where they needed it the most, Ivory would doubt they’d ever become friends. How could one be so selfish? Sure, most of the time, Ivy, herself, could have been easily perceived as that kind of person, but those who were closest to her would definitely beg to differ. “You never did and you never will. I was there for you and that’s about it. I didn’t do it for you to think I’d want something in return. That’s a thing people who genuinely care about each other do, right? Nothing else.” As she carried on, Ivory nodded ever so slowly and then sent yet another smile in Evan’s way. “If that’s the case – then we’re both just dumb. That is not up for discussion, either.”
She shrugged, ever so lightly. “No, it’s not,” Ivory assured, lifting her chin up as her gaze was still sternly focusing at the things that were happening outside. She swore, that if she looked back at her ex-girlfriend she would probably start crying. Again. But that was not happening. She couldn’t possibly have let herself do that twice during one day. One time was enough for an entire month, wasn’t it? “Strictly business terminology, that’s what I am good at. – You knew what I meant, and I am glad.” She confessed. “As glad as I am that you like it, too. I doubt I would want to change a thing.” At this point, Ivory wasn’t exactly sure what she wanted. Did she want to be happy and let everything go? Or did she want to stop feeling anything in general? Who knew?
Once Ivory finally allowed herself to walk a bit closer to Evan, she took the other’s hand in hers; her grip wasn’t neither strong or too weak, it was just there. “— and you’re really the one who says that I have the work stench trailing after me?” The woman teased as she lead them straight from her office all the way to the bathroom, opening the door. “Get yourself ready, I will bring us some spare sweats, or somethin’…”
Evangelina shook her head as soon as she heard the words coming out of Ivory’s mouth. “That’s not what I meant. I don’t feel like I owe you, I feel like it’s the least I could do for something I care so much about.” She attempted to explain in the simplest way she could, and without much detail. She knew that if she went on to explain in depth how much she cared about Ivy, she could go on for hours. Also, Evan knew she didn’t have to tell the other about it, as she most likely knew. If there was one person who knew how much Evan cared, that person was Ivory. “I know you didn’t do it because of that. It’s just what we do for the people we lo— the people we care about.” She looked down at the floor, rubbing her eye with the palm of her hand. She breathed, “But I never said I wasn’t dumb.” She gave her ex-girlfriend the most stupid wink ever, not even sure herself why she would’ve done that.
If it weren’t Ivory she was talking to right now, Evan would’ve been at least a little worried about the person avoiding eye-contact. It usually meant the person was lying, or was simply uncomfortable with the conversation. But this was Ivory Keegan, and Evan knew the woman well enough to know that the whole ‘looking out the window thing’ was for Ivy’s own protection. In that way, she was much like Evan herself - vulnerable to eye-contact. She also knew Ivory well enough to understand all the business lingo. “Whatever it’s called - an agreement, a pact, a thing, us -, I don’t care as long as it is,” she told her, hoping that she at least made some sense. It was true thought, Evan really didn’t mind what they were called (actually, she didn’t even need a label at all), she just wanted to at least keep what they had.
Her hand felt nice on Ivory’s, just touching one another without effort to hold hands, per say. She laughed as they walked their way to the bathroom. “Hey, I won’t deny it! The smell of hospital follows me around - much like a ghost. Although that’s kind of morbid to say, given as people actually... die there.” Evan shrugged away the subject, kicking off her shoes as she did so. “’K, cool.” She looked at Ivory, a slight smile on her lips, and unbottoned her pants. “Bring me your green sweatshirt, will you? I love that one.”
