Blog recommendation of the week - interview
Tell us something about yourself for a start. How and when did you become interested in photography? My name is Eva Pappas. The explosive connection of my being half Greek half Polish, thus having two homelands keeps me in constant longing for something that I haven’t found, yet. This results in unstoppable urge to express myself somehow. Because I’m not very sure about the lucidity of words I choose pictures as a form of expounding my inner self. My adventure with photography and painting started few years ago and we have been holding hands till now. What is so fascinating about abstract photography, in your opinion? It restores the exact virginity of things. What moves me most deeply is that in specific details there are hidden the greatest truths about ourselves. Abstract images give me the opportunity to awake themes that I unconciously dream about. In my opinion abstraction leads to the highest level of the basics. It gives me the key to separate the pure sense of my perception from every-day reality’s trash. What I hope for is that I provide the recipients of my artistry with the unrestricted freedom of interpretation. This power of unlimited meanings sometimes puts me in a trap of constantly asking myself a question whether I’m reflected in these abstract images or they send me the message about who I am. Anyways, abstract art in general shows the intense mode of my individuality. Isn’t it fascinating? How do you choose your subjects? What goes in your mind when you see something interesting? I don’t think, I really choose them. I feel as if they chose me. And when they do, the process is about to start. No words are good enough to reflect what goes on not only in my mind but in the whole body. The subject seems to reach the deepest strings of my soul and begin to play hypnotizing rythms. If only my eyes could take pictures at this very moment, there would be no loss of any significant seconds in this „sparkling romance” between me and the subject. Paraphrasing my master, the psychotherapist Carl Gustav Jung, when I look outside with my eyes, I dream and when I look inside me through the prism of my work, I awake. What inspires you? The amount of influences that can affect me are countless. I get my inspiration from everything, for example, the specific details in the right composition that clicks in my mind, awake reserves of strong emotions and allow me to discover them again after the picture is ready. I also like to play with the raw image and transform it to photopaintings (a mixture of photo and painting). The final effect is often enhanced by compilation of other arts (music, literature, poetry).
We thank you Eva for your very interesting answers!
