FAT PROJECT

Before the commencement of this project I took part in the FAT project, a collaborative project with Architecture and Textiles.  This helped prepare me for group work within this project and gave me experience of what it was like working in a team.  I really enjoyed this experience as it taught me to listen to other peoples ideas and allowed me to build upon them.  Along with help from Soroush Haghighat (a architect in the group) I created the presentation shown at the end of the project.   I have handed in my FAT project evaluation but I wanted the presentation to be present as well- the link is as follows:

I created my Niche Brand Report on Live The Process a luxury active wear brand matched with a balanced life blog.  At the begining of the project I contacted Robyn Berkley the creator of the brand asking when the website was launched. She replied to my email quickly and answered my question as well as asking to read what I was writing.  Towards the end of writing my report I emailed her some further questions (picture evidence)- however when I didn't receive a reply from her I emailed the contact us team on the Live The Process website.  Both of these emails did not receive replies, the outcome of this was that I couldn't go into as much depth as I would have liked to in my report.  However I did research Live The Process extensively and found the answers to most of the other questions I was looking for.

PRESENTATION AND FINAL THOUGHTS

^rough notes written for the Dragons Den style presentation.

We presented Heckler today in a Dragons Den style presentation.  I really enjoyed the presentation and felt that we all looked and acted very professionally.  The feedback we got was very positive and created a very happy and proud aura within the group.

Overall I have really enjoyed being part of the Heckler team and creating our brand.  Our group has meshed very well together and we have all got on and produced very good work.  I have learnt a lot throughout this project by working in the team and I think the skills I have procured will be very useful in the future.

THE FINAL ZINE

After placing the last business pages into the Zine, I went back over the pages to make sure there were no mistakes, that they all looked good together and nothing needed to be changed. I slightly changed the meet the team page as there were some typing errors and font changes. I also made some slight alterations to some titles.  Kerrie then rewrote her activist teen page, so I altered that but apart from those issues the Zine was completed. 

I really enjoyed making both the Zine and the presentation as it gave me a chance to use my photoshop and Indesign skills and it really helped me develop them.  I learnt a lot from putting this Zine together and I am proud of the outcome.  I aimed to make the Zine look professional and sophisticated yet I also wanted it to reflect our company.  With the colours and the effects I think I have met my aim and I will be happy and confident to showcase the Zine.

I created the business plan pages for the Zine.  In this case I wanted to use the bush strokes, already used in the Zine, to break up the text and create less overwhelming pages.  I would have added further images to the shop reports and the competitor analysis, to further break up the large amount of text, however as I was given the business plan only 2 days before the presentation and 3 days before hand in I did not have the time.  After placing the pages into Indesign I used our font to title them.  I think the font we have chosen is very effective and creates another depth and dimension to the Zine pages.

The colours on these images are coming up much brighter than those in the Zine- the paintbrush strokes in the Zine are all colours taken directly from our colour palette.

For the presentation I wanted to put the Gifs and film in without having to change screens.  As we are using keynote for the presentation I researched how to place gifs and videos into the slides without simply using links, as this is not very aesthetically pleasing.  I think adding the films and gifs directly into the presentation adds an extra layer and dimension of professionalism to the presentation

For the costing and risk assessment page, Lauren gave my both graphs and I simply edited them on photoshop.  Ruby and I did the same for the event page.

Me and Lauren met to choose what parts of the survey results should be put into the presentation.  We choose these questions as they are  the most important questions that relate the most to the creation and start up of our brand and business.  I then took the screenshots of the graphs showing the results, placed and edited them in photoshop- again using the colours of our palette for the bars and brush strokes.

Using Nans’ poster, part of my branding and Kayliegh’s altered logo I created the front cover of the Zine and Presentation.  I wanted the front cover to be professional, yet fun like our brand.  I think this works really well as it advertises and highlights our open nature and colourful inspiration but is also clean, clear and competent.

Kayleigh and Lauren created a mock up of the exterior of our shop.  Again to keep the Zine looking professional and flow smoothly I took the image edited it on photoshop and placed it into both the Zine and the presentation.  I really like the use of the posters and colour.   I think the all black exterior will make the colourful interior of our shop really stand out.  The dark paint also contrasts with the colourful posters and garments we would have in our windows, which creates a eye catching effect and would draw people into the shop.

After putting the bulk of the Zine together I gave it to the group to look over and Kerrie changed some typographic aspects and added a activist teen page.  So to keep these in keeping with the Zine I edited them using photoshop to add the coloured paintbrush lines

While adding aspects to the presentation I revisited the start of my Zine work as  I had only just begun using brushstrokes and I wanted to improve them the first two inspiration boards that I had created.  I made them more straight and the correct colours to correspond with our colour palette.

The group met on Monday morning and as I will unable to attend they started creating the presentation. As I am putting the Zine together, I gave Kayleigh the first draft so the group could a select few pages from the Zine e.g Designs, Branding and Inspiration Boards to place straight into the presentation.  They also created a consumer profile out of researched pictures.  

As the presentation should be very aesthetically appealing and have less words in then the Zine some pages needed to be changed. Such as the consumer profile page, the competitor analysis and the marketing aspect.  

The presentation was given to me to the extra parts.  As I researched H&M, I created a competitor slide for the presentation and also altered the consumer profile and the logo page.  I also created the Ratchet competitor page.  I added brushstrokes to the consumer profile slide to create a flow through out the presentation as I have done in the Zine pages.  I think it may look unprofessional if some slides of the presentation had coloured brushstrokes and others didn't.  I was asked to also changed the logo images as the images used on the slide previously were blurred and of bad quality.  

We wanted to keep the presentation clean and simple, yet colourful and interesting to look at.

We wanted to create a survey for the general public to complete to see whether our brand was needed/ appropriate. Lauren, as Marketing manager did this and sent me the results and the analysis- It was then my job to make them look appealing and place them into the Zine.  As the Zine should look professional I continued using the brush marks I created on photoshop as well as the colour palette.  I also changed the colour of the bar graphs to reflect our colour palette, as I wanted the colours and overall aesthetic of the Zine to have an easy flow throughout.

As well as creating the Zine, I was asked by Lauren our Marketing Manager to help with the business plan.  

I helped Lauren with the Core Operations aspect.  We brainstormed ideas of where risk would come into our business and how we could control it, minimise it or have back up plans to make sure that if things did going wrong, that we would be able to react quickly in order for our business, company and brand to be effected as little as possible.  

I thought that a large risk we had was our digital printer breaking.  As our brand and range focuses largely on print this would effect us in a huge way.  Therefore  to control this risk we would have a maintenance person come frequently to check the machine and specialists ready to fix it.  To minimise the impact it would have I suggested we would have strong connections with other digital print companies that we could out source to.

I also thought that as there is a lot of human error and risk run in our physical shop as there are so many extraneous variables that we can't control. Our way of controlling and monitoring this problem of work place injury would be to always keep up and updated with the latest safety regulations.  This is very important as our company wants to make sure our customers feel safe, as well as keeping our staff happy and protected.
