So. Apart from The Acts Of King Arthur And His Noble Knights, which is a translation of Malory, and which I used in a degree paper, I’d never read any John Steinbeck before this book. 

I’m very embarrassed by this, so I’m not going to dwell on it. Instead, I think I am going to say thank you to Jim Stoddart at Penguin Press for making such a lovely-looking set of Steinbeck covers that I have now bought several, and am correcting this omission in my literary education.

(This one’s really good by the way - it’s a fable about wealth and richness and freedom and happiness). 

How to read it: In a little boat in a warm place, rocked by the sea.
