gomezriley:
Riley, much like everyone else in this wretched town, had heard about the deceased police officer. Most cheered at the news of the death of another pig, and while she was unfazed by the slaughter — she had only come to drink to celebrate her life. She’d gotten out of a burning building with little but scratches to show for it.
“I’ll have what she’s having,” the blonde told the bartender as her eyes moved over the police officer. “Tough night, hm?” she murmured, unable to hold her tongue to herself. While her words may have sounded sympathetic, she simply wanted to know if more information was known but yet to have been released.
As composed as she forced herself to look on the outside, Evelyn was panicking internally. Grabbing her phone back out, she texted the one person she could think of that would be there for her, that knew everything. But god only knew if he was going to respond. Until he did, she was going to continue to feel utterly alone.
Hearing the other woman’s voice knocked her out of her wallowing mind. Allowing a bitter laugh to escape her, she placed her hand on the glass in front of her. “Rough month, it would seem,” she replied, running her other hand through her hair. “I guess I kind of signed up for it though, you know? Just wasn’t expecting… this on top of everything else.”
nadinegagne:
“I don’t know.” Nadine replied, the air around her suddenly feeling charged, “You’ve been kinda shifty. And Ethan doesn’t come by anymore.” She opened the door for her sister, taking one step outside before turning to face her. Maybe, she shouldn’t just try. Maybe this was a conversation they should be having. “You come back at the weirdest hours. You’re glued to your laptop. I know you’re saving lives and shit, but Evie.” She didn’t know where to start thinking the issue even was. Maybe she was having a tough time at work. Maybe Ethan broke up with her. Maybe she was just sick of having her around. But there was an issue, and Nadine was never able to stay silent for long. “Evelyn…Do you want me to leave?” The thought had only come to her now, a result of her feeling of helplessness. When Nadine had trouble with something, she never waited for anyone else to come along to fix it for her, knowing most of the people around her wouldn’t be pleased. And, well, if she was the problem? Maybe…Maybe she could fix that for Evelyn.
“Ethan… well it’s… complicated,” she attempted to reply, not wanting to get into that conversation in that moment. It was obvious what Nadine was trying to do, and she honestly could not fault the girl. Everything she said was the truth, and Ev knew she needed to come up with something rather than her usual line about work being crazy or jokes about her being a workaholic. Her sister was not a kid anymore and probably was smarter than her, as much as she would deny it. Eyes widening, she stopped in her tracks at her question. “Nadine, of course not! Why would I want you to leave? You’ve been nothing but great since you moved in.” Wrapping an arm around the blonde’s shoulders as they walked, she let out a sigh as she thought about her next words. “You know there are things about my job that I can’t tell you yet. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t be able to explain it in the future.”

Her heart dropped the minute she got the text.
It had been intended as a friendly heads up, she knew that full well. No one in the department had so much as suspected her of anything remotely illegal. But this could change everything. Her carefully guarded secret life could be uncovered at any minute, and she would have to triple her efforts to conceal it.
In that moment, the only thing that could possibly help her right now was alcohol. And so that is how she found herself walking into the nearest bar, and sliding into an empty seat at the counter. “Whiskey neat, please.”
sdclore:
“This is part of your job, isn’t it?” Savannah asked pertinently and without offering a moments leeway. There was always some discourse between Savannah and law enforcement, where so many of them held compassion within the concave of their chest, the Delore woman had long since squashed her own beneath heel; earning the whispered rumors of a heart of ice among the precinct. It didn’t bother her, everything she did was for a reason, and feeling was strictly a forbidden part of her job. She worked on facts alone, all of which were taking far too long as of right this moment. “You have a whole team on the investigation, are you honestly telling me right now you have nothing?” Certainly no love lost between the pair, Savannah didn’t truly expect a warm response to demanding something solid to work with, but neither did it garner her the opportunity to let it slide either. “If your team was the best, they’d have something. It’s been almost twenty four hours, so either — someone isn’t doing their job properly,” Especially considering the circumstances and those involved, “or someone is stalling. I’m not entirely welcoming to either option, so when I drag my ass back down here in four hours, I expect something solid.”
Yeah, my least favorite part of my job. “Usually the chief handles matters like this in cases of this caliber, but he asked me to come here in his stead,” she retorted, never having fought an eye roll harder in her life as the question came out of the blonde woman’s mouth. It was known to everyone at the precinct that despite Evelyn being one of the most cool headed in the department, she absolutely hated this side of the job. People like Savannah wanted things instantaneously, case open and closed within the same day, when it was purely impossible for that to happen. Not that they seemed to care about that fact, as evident by the tone she was taking. “Yes, well. You see, typically we need to run analyses and tests to make sure we have definitive proof of something before making any conclusions, and those tests, even rushed, can take days or weeks. If you want theories and speculation, I’d be happy to relay them, but we’re not about to put out anything official until we have the evidence to back it up,” she explained impatiently, “We’re not fairies that can make things appear when we need them. And unless you’re okay with shoddy police work, you’re going to have to wait.”

Despite the best efforts put forth, things are looking grim. Not so much for himself, nor those he works with, but the client at hand. Guilty as they could ever be, it is proving near impossible to prove them innocent. This had been a messy assault, caught on camera and unprovoked. Who in their right mind would take something on like this? Him. He would pull strings often, teetering on a dangerous edge as he works with those he trusts enough. Dante owes more favors than he would like to admit, and he no longer has anything left to give. That is what makes this all so important. He has to get this right. Reenacting a crime that he did not commit. Himself, faking several blows repeatedly on a woman who he counts as a friend. There had been moments of unclear footage, and Dante’s hope is to manipulate the situation as a whole. So, here he is. In a strong fist, the collar of Ev’s shirt is bunched. His free hand is in his pocket, going through motions he has repeated several times over. They’re close. He’s tired. He stills. “There’s an easier way to do this, you know.”
Evelyn usually guarded her time off of she did not devote to her own work closely, but when a friend asked for her help, she would be hard pressed to say no to them. When she had agreed to help Dante recreate the case he was working on, this was no exactly what she had in mind. Paperwork and files had been more of what she had been expecting, but per usual, he was full of surprises.
As she had not been on the original case, there was no conflict of interest in her helping him, and she was happy to be helping a friend. Though she had not expected them to be quite as close as they were in that moment in time.
And so there she was, pinned against the wall, her friend holding her firmly in place. A position she had never imagined them to ever be in. If he had not been pretending to punch her, however, she did not think that she would have minded the proximity. As he stopped in his attempt, she cocked her head to the side, “And what exactly would that be?”
bennett-kelly:
“No need to apologize,” the man replies swiftly, a smirk going over his lips. Pointing over his shoulder, he motions to the group that he had just come from. “You should have seen a lady over there. I’ve heard of the term ugly crying, but… I swore it was a myth,” he attempts to joke, giving a laugh of his own, before going serious for a split second. “I’m kidding--I swear. But, she was really upset.” Taking a split second to gather his thoughts, he nods in her direction. “I’m sure she’ll be fine. And I know, that won’t make you worry any less, but… just don’t go over thinking and make things worse for yourself. Don’t be the woman who was ugly crying.”
And with that, he offers a sad smile.
“No, but I’m confident it’ll all work out.”
Glancing over in the direction he was referring to, she could not help but laugh softly as her eyes returned to Bennett. “You’ve clearly never seen me cry. Especially when watching a movie like Titanic,” she laughed, grateful to have a distraction in the moment, and a trusted friend with her during the panic from the storm. Biting her lip, she nodded, knowing that, per usual, he was right. “I know, she’s a tough one. But she’s still my baby sister, so of course I’ll always worry. Besides, my parents are probably panicking since I haven’t been in contact with her, so that doesn’t help. But don’t worry, I promise no ugly crying. At least for now.”
Nodding, the smile on her face turned a little more somber. “Then why do I get the feeling we’re in going to be in for some over time as soon as the storm breaks?”
rebeccasalvator:
Rebecca had decided to take a seat as she served serval cups of alcohol to those who wanted it and rose an eyebrow as she listened and watched the woman in front of her. Rebecca was also worried for a number of different reasons but thankfully had this task of pouring and serving others. She gave the woman a soft smile and held up a glass for her to take. “I don’t believe that for a second…but here, looks like you could use one of these.” She handed her a cup and then poured one for herself before adding, “I’m sure everything’s okay….you’ll hear from them soon. It’s probably the bad signal we are getting. I’ve also tried contacting others and, no luck.”
A sheepish smile crossed her lips as she looked at the woman in front of her. “I’ve never been a good actress,” she joked lightly. Grabbing her phone off the table and shoving into her pocket, she straightened up to look at the woman. “Oh my, where did you-? Thank you, I definitely could use that,” she replied, gratefulness filling her tone. Taking a sip from the cup, she felt the comforting burn down her throat. “It’s just the older sister in me, always assuming the worst. I need to remember that she’s an adult, but I just can’t help but always worry about her, you know?”
Nadine & Evelyn
Nadine: Someone bumped into me, phone fell and broke. I'm having a grand old time here at the Vitt...Ugh, the lights are kinda flickering. Where are you? Did you get to a safe zone? Did you get fired?
Evelyn: You have to be more careful with that thin, kid! They're expensive. You're at the what? The Vittori? If so, stay there, you'll be safe. [laughing] I'm fine, I'm at the firehouse. And no, not fired. [pause] Lights are flickering here too...

bennett-kelly:
Bennett had done his rounds of the firehouse, attempting to assure the people that everything would be fine. However, considering the fact that he wasn’t a meteorologist, he actually had little idea of what was to happen. So, this just left him to look on the brighter side of the situation, to hope for the best.
As soon as he spotted Evelyn, the man began to head her way, only to watch her nearly smash her phone. This made his eyes widen, concern easily going over him.
“Hey, hey,” Ben holds his hands up in defense. “I didn’t say a word.”
Looking at Bennett, she relaxed her shoulders. At least if she was going to be stuck in the firehouse with no contact with her sister, she had someone she trusted with her. A small, embarrassed smile made its way across her lips as she gently reached down to pick her phone up off the table.
“Sorry you had to see that, chief...” she responded sheepishly as she slid her phone into her pocket. “I just... can’t get ahold of my little sister, and god knows what she’s gotten herself into... Any new news?”
