gomezrileyā:
Riley, much like everyone else in this wretched town, had heard about the deceased police officer. Most cheered at the news of the death of another pig, and while she was unfazed by the slaughter ā she had only come to drink to celebrate her life. Sheād gotten out of a burning building with little but scratches to show for it.
āIāll have what sheās having,ā the blonde told the bartender as her eyes moved over the police officer.Ā āTough night, hm?ā she murmured, unable to hold her tongue to herself. While her words may have sounded sympathetic, she simply wanted to know if more information was known but yet to have been released.
As composed as she forced herself to look on the outside, Evelyn was panicking internally. Grabbing her phone back out, she texted the one person she could think of that would be there for her, that knew everything. But god only knew if he was going to respond. Until he did, she was going to continue to feel utterly alone.
Hearing the other womanās voice knocked her out of her wallowing mind. Allowing a bitter laugh to escape her, she placed her hand on the glass in front of her. āRough month, it would seem,ā she replied, running her other hand through her hair. āI guess I kind of signed up for it though, you know? Just wasnāt expecting⦠this on top of everything else.ā
nadinegagneā:
āI donāt know.ā Nadine replied, the air around her suddenly feeling charged,Ā āYouāve been kinda shifty. And Ethan doesnāt come by anymore.ā She opened the door for her sister, taking one step outside before turning to face her. Maybe, she shouldnāt just try. Maybe this was a conversation they should be having.Ā āYou come back at the weirdest hours. Youāre glued to your laptop. I know youāre saving lives and shit, but Evie.ā She didnāt know where to start thinking the issue even was. Maybe she was having a tough time at work. Maybe Ethan broke up with her. Maybe she was just sick of having her around. But there wasĀ an issue, and Nadine was never able to stay silent for long.Ā āEvelynā¦Do you want me to leave?ā The thought had only come to her now, a result of her feeling of helplessness. When Nadine had trouble with something, she never waited for anyone else to come along to fix it for her, knowing most of the people around her wouldnāt be pleased. And, well, if she was the problem? Maybeā¦Maybe she could fix that for Evelyn.
āEthan⦠well itās⦠complicated,ā she attempted to reply, not wanting to get into that conversation in that moment. It was obvious what Nadine was trying to do, and she honestly could not fault the girl. Everything she said was the truth, and Ev knew she needed to come up with something rather than her usual line about work being crazy or jokes about her being a workaholic. Her sister was not a kid anymore and probably was smarter than her, as much as she would deny it. Ā Eyes widening, she stopped in her tracks at her question. āNadine, of course not! Why would I want you to leave? Youāve been nothing but great since you moved in.ā Wrapping an arm around the blondeās shoulders as they walked, she let out a sigh as she thought about her next words. āYou know there are things about my job that I canāt tell you yet. But that doesnāt mean that I wonāt be able to explain it in the future.ā

Her heart dropped the minute she got the text.
It had been intended as a friendly heads up, she knew that full well. No one in the department had so much as suspected her of anything remotely illegal. But this could change everything. Her carefully guarded secret life could be uncovered at any minute, and she would have to triple her efforts to conceal it.Ā
In that moment, the only thing that could possibly help her right now was alcohol. And so that is how she found herself walking into the nearest bar, and sliding into an empty seat at the counter.Ā āWhiskey neat, please.āĀ
sdcloreā:
āThis isĀ part of your job, isnāt it?ā Savannah asked pertinently and without offering a moments leeway. There was always some discourse between Savannah and law enforcement, where so many of them held compassion within the concave of their chest, the Delore woman had long since squashed her own beneath heel; earning the whispered rumors of a heart of ice among the precinct. It didnāt bother her, everything she did was for a reason, and feelingĀ was strictly a forbidden part of her job. She worked on facts alone, all of which were taking farĀ too long as of right this moment.Ā āYou have a whole team on the investigation, are you honestly telling me right now you have nothing?ā Certainly no love lost between the pair, Savannah didnāt truly expect a warm response to demanding something solid to work with, but neither did it garner her the opportunity to let it slide either.Ā āIf your team was the best, theyād have something. Itās been almost twenty four hours, so either ā someone isnāt doing their job properly,ā Especially considering the circumstances and those involved, āor someone is stalling. Iām not entirely welcoming to either option, so when I drag my ass back down here in four hours, I expect something solid.ā
Yeah, my least favorite part of my job. āUsually the chief handles matters like this in cases of this caliber, but he asked me to come here in his stead,ā she retorted, never having fought an eye roll harder in her life as the question came out of the blonde womanās mouth. It was known to everyone at the precinct that despite Evelyn being one of the most cool headed in the department, she absolutely hated this side of the job. People like Savannah wanted things instantaneously, case open and closed within the same day, when it was purely impossible for that to happen. Not that they seemed to care about that fact, as evident by the tone she was taking. āYes, well. You see, typically we need to run analyses and tests to make sure we have definitive proof of something before making any conclusions, and those tests, even rushed, can take days or weeks. If you want theories and speculation, Iād be happy to relay them, but weāre not about to put out anything official until we have the evidence to back it up,ā she explained impatiently, āWeāre not fairies that can make things appear when we need them. And unless youāre okay with shoddy police work, youāre going to have to wait.ā
Starter for @evelyn-gagneā
Despite the best efforts put forth, things are looking grim. Not so much for himself, nor those he works with, but the client at hand. Guilty as they could ever be, it is proving near impossible to prove them innocent. This had been a messy assault, caught on camera and unprovoked. Who in their right mind would take something on like this? Him. He would pull strings often, teetering on a dangerous edge as he works with those he trusts enough. Dante owes more favors than he would like to admit, and he no longer has anything left to give. That is what makes this all so important. He has to get this right. Reenacting a crime that he did not commit. Himself, faking several blows repeatedly on a woman who he counts as a friend. There had been moments of unclear footage, and Danteās hope is to manipulate the situation as a whole. So, here he is. In a strong fist, the collar of Evās shirt is bunched. His free hand is in his pocket, going through motions he has repeated several times over. Theyāre close. Heās tired. He stills. āThereās an easier way to do this, you know.ā
Evelyn usually guarded her time off of she did not devote to her own work closely, but when a friend asked for her help, she would be hard pressed to say no to them. When she had agreed to help Dante recreate the case he was working on, this was no exactly what she had in mind. Paperwork and files had been more of what she had been expecting, but per usual, he was full of surprises.
As she had not been on the original case, there was no conflict of interest in her helping him, and she was happy to be helping a friend. Though she had not expected them to be quite as close as they were in that moment in time.
And so there she was, pinned against the wall, her friend holding her firmly in place. A position she had never imagined them to ever be in. If he had not been pretending to punch her, however, she did not think that she would have minded the proximity. As he stopped in his attempt, she cocked her head to the side, āAnd what exactly would that be?ā
bennett-kellyā:
āNo need to apologize,ā the man replies swiftly, a smirk going over his lips. Pointing over his shoulder, he motions to the group that he had just come from.Ā āYou should have seen a lady over there. Iāve heard of the term ugly crying, but⦠I swore it was a myth,ā he attempts to joke, giving a laugh of his own, before going serious for a split second.Ā āIām kidding--I swear. But, she was really upset.ā Taking a split second to gather his thoughts, he nods in her direction.Ā āIām sure sheāll be fine. And I know, that wonāt make you worry any less, but⦠just donāt go over thinking and make things worse for yourself. Donāt be the woman who was ugly crying.ā
And with that, he offers a sad smile.
āNo, but Iām confident itāll all work out.ā
Glancing over in the direction he was referring to, she could not help but laugh softly as her eyes returned to Bennett. āYouāve clearly never seen me cry. Especially when watching a movie like Titanic,ā she laughed, grateful to have a distraction in the moment, and a trusted friend with her during the panic from the storm. Biting her lip, she nodded, knowing that, per usual, he was right. āI know, sheās a tough one. But sheās still my baby sister, so of course Iāll always worry. Besides, my parents are probably panicking since I havenāt been in contact with her, so that doesnāt help. But donāt worry, I promise no ugly crying. At least for now.ā
Nodding, the smile on her face turned a little more somber. āThen why do I get the feeling weāre in going to be in for some over time as soon as the storm breaks?ā
rebeccasalvatorā:
Rebecca had decided to take a seat as she served serval cups of alcohol to those who wanted it and rose an eyebrow as she listened and watched the woman in front of her. Rebecca was also worried for a number of different reasons but thankfully had this task of pouring and serving others. She gave the woman a soft smile and held up a glass for her to take.Ā āI donāt believe that for a secondā¦but here, looks like you could use one of these.ā She handed her a cup and then poured one for herself before adding,Ā āIām sure everythingās okayā¦.youāll hear from them soon. Itās probably the bad signal we are getting. Iāve also tried contacting others and, no luck.ā
A sheepish smile crossed her lips as she looked at the woman in front of her.Ā āIāve never been a good actress,ā she joked lightly. Grabbing her phone off the table and shoving into her pocket, she straightened up to look at the woman.Ā āOh my, where did you-? Thank you, I definitely could use that,ā she replied, gratefulness filling her tone. Taking a sip from the cup, she felt the comforting burn down her throat.Ā āItās just the older sister in me, always assuming the worst. I need to remember that sheās an adult, but I just canāt help but always worry about her, you know?ā
Nadine & Evelyn
Nadine: Someone bumped into me, phone fell and broke. I'm having a grand old time here at the Vitt...Ugh, the lights are kinda flickering. Where are you? Did you get to a safe zone? Did you get fired?
Evelyn: You have to be more careful with that thin, kid! They're expensive. You're at the what? The Vittori? If so, stay there, you'll be safe. [laughing] I'm fine, I'm at the firehouse. And no, not fired. [pause] Lights are flickering here too...

Bennett had done his rounds of the firehouse, attempting to assure the people that everything would be fine. However, considering the fact that he wasnāt a meteorologist, he actually had little idea of what was to happen. So, this just left him to look on the brighter side of the situation, to hope for the best.
As soon as he spotted Evelyn, the man began to head her way, only to watch her nearly smash her phone. This made his eyes widen, concern easily going over him.
āHey, hey,ā Ben holds his hands up in defense. āI didnāt say a word.ā
Looking at Bennett, she relaxed her shoulders. At least if she was going to be stuck in the firehouse with no contact with her sister, she had someone she trusted with her. A small, embarrassed smile made its way across her lips as she gently reached down to pick her phone up off the table.
āSorry you had to see that, chief...ā she responded sheepishly as she slid her phone into her pocket.Ā āI just... canāt get ahold of my little sister, and god knows what sheās gotten herself into... Any new news?āĀ
