there’s this guy on tiktok who has like a giant fucking contraption that concentrates sunlight onto one spot and he just posts videos of him vaporizing shit in his yard with it but the kicker is that he sounds exactly like butthead
tick or treat???
Happy Halloween! You get the Tropical Bont Tick (Amblyomma variegatum)
This species is native to West Africa and commonly parasitizes cattle. It has become invasive in the Caribbean islands due to cattle imports, but is not known to carry any diseases. It occasionally parasitizes dogs by accident, but it really prefers ungulates. And they have candycane striped legs :)

trick or treat! (i'm dressed as a mummy)
For your super spooky costume you get a super spooky bug!! You treat is the tick wasp (Ixodiphagus hookeri) which lays its eggs in baby ticks!
(Buczek, A., Buczek, W., Bartosik, K. et al. Ixodiphagus hookeri wasps (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) in two sympatric tick species Ixodes ricinus and Haemaphysalis concinna (Ixodida: Ixodidae) in the Slovak Karst (Slovakia): ecological and biological considerations. Sci Rep 11, 11310 (2021). https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-021-90871-7)
The eggs lay dormant until the tick has fed on blood, at which point they start developing. After a month or three, the adult wasp emerges and the tick dies - it's the circle of life! Tick wasps are found on every continent, except Antarctica, and different populations seem to prefer different tick species :)
No!!!! My baby ticks!!! 😩
TICK OR TREAT!!!!
Happy Halloween! You get the rhinoceros tick (Dermacentor rhinocerinus)
(Photo by Chris Cloutier, left, and Jack Greeff, right)
The rhinoceros tick spends its early life feeding on smaller animals, but in order to mate, it needs to find a rhinoceros host! Because of this, rhinoceros ticks are thought to be at risk. Rhino conservation is necessary if we wanna protect these beautiful little vampire ladybugs!
